Book excerpt: Far more than a book, 'Visions of Reality - Art of Synthesis' is an invitation for you to partake in the secret of life itself, and 'life' in this instance is you, the reader. The relationship you have with the material held within its pages enables it to be transformed and taken forward into your world, to create your reality. YOU, quite literally, breathe life into the form. A synthesis of striking image, symbol and poetry, grounded in ancient wisdom from timeless spiritual traditions, it leads you onwards to surrender all, in favour of that which you know to be your true essence. If you value all that is light and true, and sincerely seek to move beyond the confines of separation consciousness, then please open your heart and accept this invitation... "Have you the courage? Dare you be free?" ..".one of the most original books that I ever read and I have been fascinated by its content. The pictures, together with an almost poetical text, will help the reader to enter a spiritual consciousness that will lighten the mind on the journey through this life." Ann Richards, Apple Pips Editing Services. Book excerpt: In an age when political correctness, ideological myopia, political partisanship, and other sundry inanities have utterly mangled truth and clear insight beyond all recognition, nothing can be more to the purpose than an open and honest examination of some of the more salient issues confronting the civilized world. In Visions of Reality: Viewing Old Problems in a New Light, philosopher and independent scholar Greg Nyquist takes a fresh look at some of the central issues confronting civilized man in the twenty-first century, eschewing the conventional platitudes that have enveloped them and instead opting to go wherever the evidence leads. Essays on conservatism, democracy, moral externalities, the psychopathology of the left, economics, business cycles, and intuition all bring a fresh perspective on some of the chief problems tormenting mankind. The book concludes with two ambitious essays on the meaning of life. The essay "Realism and the Spiritual Life" attempts to give an unbiased, agenda-free account of the evidence for and against theism. The book concludes with essay "Freedom and the Spontaneous Universe," which introduces a bold conjecture that rejects the determinism implicit in the cosmologies of neo-darwinists and creationists in favor of a vision of the universe that is compatible with mankind's experience of individual initiative and freedom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each life is given moments of bliss as well as tranquility that come from just being a part of this vast universe. One knows that in order to exist, each positive must have a negative. Life always balances the scale of joy and ecstasy with the weight of pain and sorrow. The second of three volumes titled Visions of Reality is a mixture of joy and happiness mingled with the pain and sorrows that I conveyed as making life meaningful and rewarding. My visions of what life can be, as opposed to actuality, encourage the reader to maintain hope and assurance in trusting a higher being, God, to comfort and sustain them during the darkest hour. Through the reading of these poems, the reader will gain a quest for understanding love while not rejecting disparity.

Download or read book A Conflict of Visions written by Thomas Sowell and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2007-06-05 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Sowell’s “extraordinary” explication of the competing visions of human nature lie at the heart of our political conflicts (New York Times) Controversies in politics arise from many sources, but the conflicts that endure for generations or centuries show a remarkably consistent pattern. In this classic work, Thomas Sowell analyzes this pattern. He describes the two competing visions that shape our debates about the nature of reason, justice, equality, and power: the "constrained" vision, which sees human nature as unchanging and selfish, and the "unconstrained" vision, in which human nature is malleable and perfectible. A Conflict of Visions offers a convincing case that ethical and policy disputes circle around the disparity between both outlooks.
Download or read book Visions of Alterity written by Elke D'hoker and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2004 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visions of Alterity: Representation in the Works of John Banville offers detailed and original readings of the work of the Irish author John Banville, one of the foremost figures in contemporary European literature. It investigates one of the fundamental concerns of Banville's novels: mediating the gap between subject and object or self and world in representation. By drawing on the rich history of the problem of representation in literature, philosophy and literary theory, this study provides a thorough insight into the rich philosophical and intertextual dimension of Banville's fiction. In close textual analyses of Banville's most important novels, it maps out a thematic development that moves from an interest in the epistemological and aesthetic representation of the world in scientific theories, over a concern with the ethical dimension of representations, to an exploration of self-representation and identity. What remains constant throughout these different perspectives is the disruption of representations by brief but haunting glimpses of otherness. In tracing these different visions of alterity in Banville's solipsistic literary world, this study offers a better understanding of his insistent and thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be human.

Download or read book Psychoanalytic Therapy and Behavior Therapy written by Harold (Hal) Hall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has a question mark in its title because it aims to invite inquiry. The possibility of integrating psychoanalytic and behavior therapies has been controversial since it was first proposed about 50 years ago, and this has elicited a wide range of reactions from both psychologists and psy chiatrists. It was with the hope of fostering constructive interchange that this book was conceived. We wanted to spark further thinking about the question in the title in a way that could lead either to conceptual and clinical progress toward an integrated approach or to a clearer sense of the obstacles involved. In either case, we hoped that it would present a healthy challenge to current forms of psychoanalytic and behavior therapies. The present volume was stimulated by the appearance in 1977 of Paul Wachtel's book Psychoanalysis and Behavior Therapy: Toward an Integration. Al though many reviewers did not necessarily agree with Wachtel's proposals for integration, they (and we) were highly laudatory of his attempt. After reading the book, Hal Arkowitz organized a symposium on integration that took place in Chicago at the November 1978 meeting of the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy. The symposium included Cyril Franks, Merton Gill, Hans Strupp, Paul Wachtel, and Michael Merbaum as moderator. Arkowitz subsequently proposed to edit a book on integra tion and invited Messer to be coeditor.
