Book Viscous Flows

Download or read book Viscous Flows written by Ahmer Mehmood and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-22 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authored monograph provides a detailed discussion of the boundary layer flow due to a moving plate. The topical focus lies on the 2- and 3-dimensional case, considering axially symmetric and unsteady flows. The author derives a criterion for the self-similar and non-similar flow, and the turbulent flow due to a stretching or shrinking sheet is also discussed. The target audience primarily comprises research experts in the field of boundary layer flow, but the book will also be beneficial for graduate students.

Book Viscous Flows

Download or read book Viscous Flows written by Howard Brenner and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Representing a unique approach to the study of fluid flows, Viscous Flows demonstrates the utility of theoretical concepts and solutions for interpreting and predicting fluid flow in practical applications. By critically comparing all relevant classes of theoretical solutions with experimental data and/or general numerical solutions, it focuses on the range of validity of theoretical expressions rather than on their intrinsic character. This book features extensive use of dimensional analysis on both models and variables, and extensive development of theoretically based correlating equations. The range of applicability of most theoretical solutions is shown to be quite limited; however, in combination they are demonstrated to be more reliable than purely empirical expressions, particularly in novel applications.

Book Fluid Vortices

Download or read book Fluid Vortices written by Sheldon Green and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 905 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid Vortices is a comprehensive, up-to-date, research-level overview covering all salient flows in which fluid vortices play a significant role. The various chapters have been written by specialists from North America, Europe and Asia, making for unsurpassed depth and breadth of coverage. Topics addressed include fundamental vortex flows (mixing layer vortices, vortex rings, wake vortices, vortex stability, etc.), industrial and environmental vortex flows (aero-propulsion system vortices, vortex-structure interaction, atmospheric vortices, computational methods with vortices, etc.), and multiphase vortex flows (free-surface effects, vortex cavitation, and bubble and particle interactions with vortices). The book can also be recommended as an advanced graduate-level supplementary textbook. The first nine chapters of the book are suitable for a one-term course; chapters 10--19 form the basis for a second one-term course.

Book Three dimensional Effects in Viscous Wakes

Download or read book Three dimensional Effects in Viscous Wakes written by Martin H. Steiger and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The velocity, energy and concentration fields of three-dimensional viscous wakes are examined with the boundary layer approximations and Oseens' linearization of the acceleration terms. Solutions are derived for both incompressible and compressible wakes, without and with axial pressure gradients. In the incompressible cases the governing equations are linear and transform methods yield exact solutions for general types of initial conditions. In the compressible case the energy equation admits a Crocco integral when the Prandtl and Lewis numbers are equal to unity, and a similar integral of the concentration equation is derived for Le/Pr=1 and Wi tends toward 0. However, due to the nonlinearities associated with compressible flows, solutions for the velocity components can only be achieved by approximate methods. Two methods are presented; the first involves an iteration scheme, while the second assumes that the density and viscosity are only a function of the axial coordinate. In both methods transform theory is used and solutions are presented for general types of initial conditions. As an illustration, it is demonstrated that the axial velocity distribution in isobaric wakes whose initial isovels (lines of constant velocity) are of elliptic shape decay to axial symmetry.
