Because the videodisc has been around the longest it has been used in more applications than the other forms of optical disc. Also, education and training applications use the videodisc almost exclusively. The other forms of optical disc are used primarily for image and record storage and retrieval. CD-ROM is being used to store an increasing number of medical data bases. Digital optical disc is making its way into the medical records field. No one really knows yet what changes CD-I and DVI will bring about in the industry.
