En el convento recibiría en 1428 un estigma en la frente, recuerdo imperecedero de una de las espinas que atormentaron a Cristo en la Pasión. Tras su muerte en 1457, pronto cundió entre los fieles el rumor de la eficacia de su intercesión ante Dios para obtener curaciones imposibles. La devoción se expandió con rapidez por toda Italia y gran parte de Europa. Se le atribuyen innumerables milagros. Beatificada por Urbano VIII en 1627, fue canonizada por León XIII el año 1900. Con notable amenidad, el profesor Yves Chiron nos ofrece en estas páginas una biografía histórica de santa Rita de Casia, rigurosa y clarificadora, a la par que respetuosa de la dimensión sobrenatural y mística de esta mujer.
