Book The Mechanisms of Fast Reactions in Solution

Download or read book The Mechanisms of Fast Reactions in Solution written by Edward Caldin and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published a few years after the author's death, this volume is a sequel to his 1964 book, Fast Reactions in Solution; the material is entirely new, extending investigation beyond now well-established fast-reaction techniques to consider their contribution to understanding events on the molecular scale. After an introductory chapter on origins, methods, mechanisms, and rate constants, coverage includes the rates of diffusion-controlled reactions, mathematical theory of diffusion, flash photolysis techniques, fluorescence quenching, Marcus theory involving proton-transfer and group-transfer reactions in solutions, and electron-transfer reactions. Book Vibrational Spectroscopy at Electrified Interfaces

Download or read book Vibrational Spectroscopy at Electrified Interfaces written by Andrzej Wieckowski and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-07-15 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reviews the latest theory, techniques, and applications Surface vibrational spectroscopy techniques probe the structure and composition of interfaces at the molecular level. Their versatility, coupled with their non-destructive nature, enables in-situ measurements of operating devices and the monitoring of interface-controlled processes under reactive conditions. Vibrational Spectroscopy at Electrified Interfaces explores new and emerging applications of Raman, infrared, and non-linear optical spectroscopy for the study of charged interfaces. The book draws from hundreds of findings reported in the literature over the past decade. It features an internationally respected team of authors and editors, all experts in the field of vibrational spectroscopy at surfaces and interfaces. Content is divided into three parts: Part One, Nonlinear Vibrational Spectroscopy, explores properties of interfacial water, ions, and biomolecules at charged dielectric, metal oxide, and electronically conductive metal catalyst surfaces. In addition to offering plenty of practical examples, the chapters present the latest measurement and instrumental techniques. Part Two, Raman Spectroscopy, sets forth highly sensitive approaches for the detection of biomolecules at solid-liquid interfaces as well as the use of photon depolarization strategies to elucidate molecular orientation at surfaces. Part Three, IRRAS Spectroscopy (including PM-IRRAS), reports on wide-ranging systems from small fuel molecules at well-defined surfaces to macromolecular complexes that serve as the building blocks for functional interfaces in devices designed for chemical sensing and electric power generation. The Wiley Series on Electrocatalysis and Electrochemistry is dedicated to reviewing important advances in the field, exploring how these advances affect industry. The series defines what we currently know and can do with our knowledge of electrocatalysis and electrochemistry as well as forecasts where we can expect the field to be in the future.

Book Physical Chemistry of Cold Gas Phase Functional Molecules and Clusters

Download or read book Physical Chemistry of Cold Gas Phase Functional Molecules and Clusters written by Takayuki Ebata and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-02 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes advanced research on the structures and photochemical properties of polyatomic molecules and molecular clusters having various functionalities under cold gas-phase conditions. Target molecules are crown ethers, polypeptides, large size protonated clusters, metal clusters, and other complex polyatomic molecules of special interest. A variety of advanced frequency and time-domain laser spectroscopic methods are applied. The book begins with the principle of an experimental setup for cold gas-phase molecules and various laser spectroscopic methods, followed by chapters on investigation of specific molecular systems. Through a molecular-level approach and analysis by quantum chemical calculation, it is possible to learn how atomic and molecular-level interactions (van der Waals, hydrogen-bonding, and others) control the specific properties of molecules and clusters. Those properties include molecular recognition, induced fitting, chirality, proton and hydrogen transfer, isomerization, and catalytic reaction. The information will be applicable to the design of new types of functional molecules and nanoparticles in the broad area that includes applied chemistry, drug delivery systems, and catalysts.

Ultrafast Infrared Vibrational Spectroscopy is an advanced overview of the field of ultrafast infrared vibrational spectroscopy based on the scientific research of the leading figures in the field. The book discusses experimental and theoretical topics reflecting the latest accomplishments and understanding of ultrafast infrared vibrational spectroscopy. Each chapter provides background, details of methods, and explication of a topic of current research interest. Experimental and theoretical studies cover topics as diverse as the dynamics of water and the dynamics and structure of biological molecules. Methods covered include vibrational echo chemical exchange spectroscopy, IR-Raman spectroscopy, time resolved sum frequency generation, and 2D IR spectroscopy. Edited by a recognized leader in the field and with contributions from top researchers, including experimentalists and theoreticians, this book presents the latest research methods and results. It will serve as an excellent resource for those new to the field, experts in the field, and individuals who want to gain an understanding of particular methods and research topics.

Book Reaction Dynamics in Clusters and Condensed Phases

Download or read book Reaction Dynamics in Clusters and Condensed Phases written by Joshua Jortner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Twenty Sixth Jerusalem Symposium reflected the high standards of these distinguished scientific meetings, which convene once a year at the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Jerusalem to discuss a specific topic in the broad area of quantum chemistry and biochemistry. The topic at this year's Jerusalem Symposium was reaction dynamics in clusters and condensed phases, which constitutes a truly interdisciplinary subject of central interest in the areas of chemical dynamics, kinetics, photochemistry and condensed matter chemical physics. The main theme of the Symposium was built around the exploration of the interrelationship between the dynamics in large finite clusters and in infinite bulk systems. The main issues addressed microscopic and macroscopic sol vation phenomena, cluster and bulk spectroscopy, photodissociation and vibrational predissociation, cage effects, interphase dynamics, reaction dynamics and energy transfer in clusters, dense fluids, liquids, solids and biophysical systems. The interdisciplinary nature of this research area was deliberated by intensive and extensive interactions between modern theory and advanced experimental methods. This volume provides a record of the invited lectures at the Symposium.
