Book Statistical Energy Analysis

Download or read book Statistical Energy Analysis written by A. J. Keane and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-03-06 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1997 volume provides an overview of statistical energy analysis and its applications in structural vibration. Statistical energy analysis is a powerful method for predicting and analysing the vibrational behaviour of structures. Its main use is for structures that can be considered as assemblies of interconnected subsystems which are subject to medium to high frequency vibration sources. This volume brings together nine articles by experts from around the world. The opening chapter gives an introduction and overview of the technique describing its key successes, potential and limitations. Following chapters look in more detail at a selection of cases and examples which together illustrate the scope and power of the technique. This book is based on a Royal Society Philosophical Transactions issue under the title 'Statistical Energy Analysis', but an extra chapter, by Chohan, Price, Keane and Beshara, discussing nonconservatively coupled systems is included in this edition.

Download or read book Selected Topics in Structronics and Mechatronic Systems written by Alexander Belyaev and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past twenty years, the scientific community has witnessed a technological revolution in products and processes, from consumer goods to factory automation systems. This revolution is based on the integration, right from the design phase, of the best that current technology can offer in electronics, control systems, computers, structures and mechanics. The terms that have emerged, for the synergetic approach to design, and integration of sensors, actuators, computers, structures and mechanics, are ?structronics? and ?mechatronics?. Structronics can be viewed as an integration of mechatronic systems into structures, which emphasizes a synergistic integration beginning at fertilization. Similar to mechatronics (established in the 1980s), structronics is recognized as one of the essential technologies in the 21st century. This comprehensive reference book gives an overview of the current state of structronics and mechatronics in both structural/mechanical and material systems. Consisting of nine self-contained chapters, it presents recent developments and covers emerging topics in the field. The key features include: ? treatment of the nonholonomic variables in robotics? attenuation of fluid flow pulsation in hydraulic systems? presentation of mathematical modeling and experiments on complex nonlinear dynamics of washing machines? a survey of research findings in hydraulic gap control of rolling mills? detailed description of mathematical modeling and nonlinear control of a temper controlling mill? applications of high frequency dynamics in engineering structures? development of novel computational methods to include plasticity and damage in flexible multibody systems? new trends in optimal design of engineering structures? a review of ionic polymer metal composites (IPMCs) as sensors, actuators and artificial musclesSelected Topics in Structronics and Mechatronic Systems will be of interest to engineers, materials scientists, physicists and applied mathematicians

Book IUTAM Symposium on Advances in Nonlinear Stochastic Mechanics

Download or read book IUTAM Symposium on Advances in Nonlinear Stochastic Mechanics written by A. Naess and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IUTAM Symposium on Advances in Nonlinear Stochastic Mechanics, held in Trondheim July 3-7, 1995, was the eighth of a series of IUTAM sponsored symposia which focus on the application of stochastic methods in mechanics. The previous meetings took place in Coventry, UK (1972), Sout'hampton, UK (1976), FrankfurtjOder, Germany (1982), Stockholm, Sweden (1984), Innsbruckjlgls, Austria (1987), Turin, Italy (1991) and San Antonio, Texas (1993). The symposium provided an extraordinary opportunity for scholars to meet and discuss recent advances in stochastic mechanics. The participants represented a wide range of expertise, from pure theoreticians to people primarily oriented toward applications. A significant achievement of the symposium was the very extensive discussions taking place over the whole range from highly theoretical questions to practical engineering applications. Several presentations also clearly demonstrated the substantial progress that has been achieved in recent years in terms of developing and implement ing stochastic analysis techniques for mechanical engineering systems. This aspect was further underpinned by specially invited extended lectures on computational stochastic mechanics, engineering applications of stochastic mechanics, and nonlinear active control. The symposium also reflected the very active and high-quality research taking place in the field of stochastic stability. Ten presentations were given on this topic ofa total of47 papers. A main conclusion that can be drawn from the proceedings of this symposium is that stochastic mechanics as a subject has reached great depth and width in both methodology and applicability.

Book New Directions in Linear Acoustics and Vibration

Download or read book New Directions in Linear Acoustics and Vibration written by Matthew Wright and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-07-26 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linear acoustics was thought to be fully encapsulated in physics texts of the 1950s, but this view has been changed by developments in physics during the last four decades. There is a significant new amount of theory that can be used to address problems in linear acoustics and vibration, but only a small amount of reported work does so. This book is an attempt to bridge the gap between theoreticians and practitioners, as well as the gap between quantum and acoustic. Tutorial chapters provide introductions to each of the major aspects of the physical theory and are written using the appropriate terminology of the acoustical community. The book will act as a quick-start guide to the new methods while providing a wide-ranging introduction to the physical concepts.

Book Nonlinear Vibration with Control

Download or read book Nonlinear Vibration with Control written by David Wagg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-03 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive discussion of nonlinear multi-modal structural vibration problems, and shows how vibration suppression can be applied to such systems by considering a sample set of relevant control techniques. It covers the basic principles of nonlinear vibrations that occur in flexible and/or adaptive structures, with an emphasis on engineering analysis and relevant control techniques. Understanding nonlinear vibrations is becoming increasingly important in a range of engineering applications, particularly in the design of flexible structures such as aircraft, satellites, bridges, and sports stadia. There is an increasing trend towards lighter structures, with increased slenderness, often made of new composite materials and requiring some form of deployment and/or active vibration control. There are also applications in the areas of robotics, mechatronics, micro electrical mechanical systems, non-destructive testing and related disciplines such as structural health monitoring. Two broader themes cut across these application areas: (i) vibration suppression – or active damping – and, (ii) adaptive structures and machines. In this expanded 2nd edition, revisions include: An additional section on passive vibration control, including nonlinear vibration mounts. A more in-depth description of semi-active control, including switching and continuous schemes for dampers and other semi-active systems. A complet e reworking of normal form analysis, which now includes new material on internal resonance, bifurcation of backbone curves and stability analysis of forced responses. Further analysis of the nonlinear dynamics of cables including internal resonance leading to whirling. Additional material on the vibration of systems with impact friction. The book is accessible to practitioners in the areas of application, as well as students and researchers working on related topics. In particular, the aim is to introduce the key concepts of nonlinear vibration to readers who have an understanding of linear vibration and/or linear control, but no specialist knowledge in nonlinear dynamics or nonlinear control.
