Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Proph tes du dialogue islamo chr tien written by Maurice Borrmans and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Vatican II

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gavin D'Costa
  • Publisher : OUP Oxford
  • Release : 2014-08-28
  • ISBN : 0191634158
  • Pages : 273 pages

Download or read book Vatican II written by Gavin D'Costa and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2014-08-28 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gavin D'Costa breaks new ground in this authoritative study of the Second Vatican Council's doctrines on other religions, with particular attention to Judaism and Islam. The focus is exclusively on the doctrinal foundations found in Lumen Gentium 16 that will serve Catholicism in the twenty first century. D'Costa provides a map outlining different hermeneutical approaches to the Council, whilst synthesising their strengths and providing a critique of their weaknesses. Moreover, he classifies the different authority attributed to doctrines thereby clarifying debates regarding continuity, discontinuity, and reform in doctrinal teaching. Vatican II: Catholic Doctrines on Jews and Muslims expertly examines the Council's revolutionary teaching on Judaism which has been subject to conflicting readings, including the claim that the Council reversed doctrinal teachings in this area. Through a rigorous examination of the debates, the drafts, the official commentary, and with consideration of the previous Council and papal doctrinal teachings on the Jews, D'Costa lays bare the doctrinal achievements of the Council, and concludes with a similar detailed examination of Catholic doctrines on Islam. This innovative text makes essential interventions in the debate about Council hermeneutics and doctrinal teachings on the religions.

Book Muslim Perceptions of Other Religions

Download or read book Muslim Perceptions of Other Religions written by Jacques Waardenburg and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1999-08-19 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its inception, Islam and its civilization have been in continuous relationships with other religions, cultures, and civilizations, including not only different forms of Christianity and Judaism inside and outside the Middle East, Zoroastrianism and Manicheism, Hinduism and even Buddhism, but also tribal religions in West and East Africa, in South Russia and in Central Asia, including Tibet. The essays collected here examine the many texts that have come down to us about these cultures and their religions, from Muslim theologians and jurists, travelers and historians, and men of letters and of culture.

Book Muslim Christian Relations and Inter Christian Rivalries in the Middle East

Download or read book Muslim Christian Relations and Inter Christian Rivalries in the Middle East written by John Joseph and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1984-06-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study focuses on the Jacobites (Syrian Orthodox Christians), who, like their Aramaean ancestors, established a presence far beyond their ancestral lands. Professor John Joseph has found this historic Christian community to be an admirable case study in inter-communal relations in the Middle East. Of special interest is the discussion of how Western religious rivalries, Catholic and Protestant, have affected the religious tensions in the Middle East. Through Joseph's first-hand acquaintance with the region and mastery of previously unmined sources, he displays an intimate and thorough knowledge of his subject. Written with color, clarity, and extreme care, the book offers an objective recounting of a story that is at times full of passion and violence.
