Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES, USA TODAY, and PUBLISHERS WEEKLY NATIONAL BESTSELLER If you don’t understand communist revolutions, you aren’t ready for what’s coming. The old rules are over. The old order is over. Accusations are evidence. Activism means bigotry and hate. Criminals are allowed to roam free. Citizens are locked up. An appetite for vengeance is unleashed—to deplatform, debank, destroy. This is the daily news, yet none of it’s new. Patterns from the past make sense of our present. They also foretell a terrifying future we might be condemned to endure. For nearly 250 years, far-left uprisings have followed the same battle plans—from the first call for change to last innocent executed, from denial a revolution is even happening to declaration of the new order. Unhumans takes readers on a shocking, sweeping, and succinct journey through history to share the untold stories of radical takeovers that textbooks don’t teach. And there is one conclusion: We're in a new revolution right now. But this is not a book about ideology or politics. Unhumans reveals that communism, socialism, Marxism, and all other radical-isms are not philosophies but tactics—tactics that are specifically designed to unleash terror on everyday people and revoke their human rights to life, liberty, and property. These are the forces of unhumanity. This is what they do. Every. Single. Time. Unhumans steals their playbook, breaks apart their strategies piece by piece, and lays out the tactics of what it takes to fight back—and win, using real-world examples. Unhumans is an essential read for every concerned citizen both in the US and worldwide. We must stop what is coming.

Book Crusading as an Act of Vengeance 1095 1216

Download or read book Crusading as an Act of Vengeance 1095 1216 written by Susanna A. Throop and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only recently have historians of the crusades begun to seriously investigate the presence of the idea of crusading as an act of vengeance, despite its frequent appearance in crusading sources. Understandably, many historians have primarily concentrated on non-ecclesiastical phenomena such as feuding, purportedly a component of "secular" culture and the interpersonal obligations inherent in medieval society. This has led scholars to several assumptions regarding the nature of medieval vengeance and the role that various cultures of vengeance played in the crusading movement. This monograph revises those assumptions and posits a new understanding of how crusading was conceived as an act of vengeance in the context of the twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. Through textual analysis of specific medieval vocabulary it has been possible to clarify the changing course of the concept of vengeance in general as well as the more specific idea of crusading as an act of vengeance. The concept of vengeance was intimately connected with the ideas of justice and punishment. It was perceived as an expression of power, embedded in a series of commonly understood emotional responses, and also as an expression of orthodox Christian values. There was furthermore a strong link between religious zeal, righteous anger, and the vocabulary of vengeance. By looking at these concepts in detail, and in the context of current crusading methodologies, fresh vistas are revealed that allow for a better understanding of the crusading movement and those who "took the cross," with broader implications for the study of crusading ideology and twelfth-century spirituality in general.

Book Imperial Lyric

  • Author : Leah Middlebrook
  • Publisher : Penn State Press
  • Release : 2016-11-29

Download or read book Imperial Lyric written by Leah Middlebrook and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2016-11-29 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Present scholarly conversations about early European and global modernity have yet to acknowledge fully the significance of Spain and Spanish cultural production. Poetry and ideology in early modern Spain form the backdrop for Imperial Lyric, which seeks to address this shortcoming. Based on readings of representative poems by eight Peninsular writers, Imperial Lyric demonstrates that the lyric was a crucial site for the negotiation of masculine identity as Spain’s noblemen were alternately cajoled and coerced into abandoning their identifications with images of the medieval hero and assuming instead the posture of subjects. The book thus demonstrates the importance of Peninsular letters to our understanding of shifting ideologies of the self, language, and the state that mark watersheds for European and American modernity. At the same time, this book aims to complicate the historicizing turn we have taken in the field of early modern studies by considering a threshold of modernity that was specific to poetry, one that was inscribed in Spanish culture when the genre of lyric poetry attained a certain kind of prestige at the expense of epic. Imperial Lyric breaks striking new ground in the field of early modern studies.

Book History and Politics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Adam Jarosz
  • Publisher : Cambridge Scholars Publishing
  • Release : 2018-04-18
  • ISBN : 1527509583
  • Pages : 315 pages

Download or read book History and Politics written by Adam Jarosz and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-04-18 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History and politics are interlinked with unbreakable bonds, as is manifested primarily in the use of historical arguments in political disputes. Regardless of the ideological views represented, time period, and geographical location, politicians consistently and frequently use such arguments with a high degree of effectiveness. Driven by a variety of motives, they use the category of the past, (re)interpret it, and decide what should be remembered and what should be removed from the so-called collective memory. In practice, this means that a properly prepared and delivered narrative of the past can become a powerful instrument in the hands of the ruling class, influencing the social and political reality of the country concerned. Control of the past and its “correct” reconstruction can thus effectively contribute to gaining, boosting, and consolidating power by a political entity. An appropriately shaped awareness of the past thus serves an only ancillary role to politics, satisfying social expectations and ideological visions. Thus, the past, or rather the memory of it, when becoming a topic of interest in the domain of politics, forces the creators of the politics of history to improve the tools and mechanisms they wield to ensure its more efficient use.

Book The Messengers

Book excerpt: While waiting for their parents to pick them up after school, Christopher, his little brother Alex, and their cousin Andrea are playing hide and seek on the school playground. Suddenly, a flash of lightning strikes, and the three children are transported to another dimension. They arrive in the desolate tenth planet of our solar system, TerraNize. The story focuses on the adventure and exploits taking place in a once majestic land. The beautiful planet of TerraNize with its splendid terrain and idyllic environment has been transformed into an epic wasteland. Shrouded in a constant haze of ash and soot, the air is toxic. The once fertile land and gorgeous mountain ranges now bear unforgiving scars rendered by intense heat. The riverbeds are cracking from lack of moisture while the ocean lines have receded precipitously. What little wildlife remains mostly suffers from disease and starvation. Partitioning off distinctive boundaries of land are a vast array of divergent beings who have assumed control of their portion of this seemingly useless land. As the children journey through the vast arrays of lands on Terranize, they unfold the catastrophic events that have delivered it to this point of despair. The evil eternal, Antigond, is destroying the five kingdoms of men. Small groups of Cyclops, elves, dwarfs, and different tribes of men have survived Antigond's destruction, but with the help of his creations, the Trougliites, The Dreafs mighty winged beasts and Brounts. Antigond has united all the sub humans in a war against these last inhabitants of TerraNize. Led by Draagho, the warrior king, the children embark on a harrowing mission. They must find the orbs in which the life essence of the gods of TerraNize, called the eternals, is endowed. If the children are successful, the eternals can be regenerated and destroy Antigond before he obliterates all of humanity. In a journey fraught with peril, the three children dig deep into their souls for the strength and perseverance to survive.
