Book excerpt: We live in an exciting time. Technology and the internet are allowing information to be shared and accessed in absolutely unprecedented ways, enabling a revolution of both thought and experience within the human condition. As a result, increasing numbers are becoming unwilling to accept the worldviews put forth by religion, government, even the mainstream media, and are searching for ways of understanding the world based on hard data and direct experience. Piercing the Veil takes a fresh and objective approach to exploring the fundamental questions of reality, primarily through candid examinations of both cutting edge science and altered states of consciousness. The first of the book's three sections examines the most notable psychedelics, expounding upon their experiential properties, cultural impacts, and potential for both positive and negative use. Next comes an in-depth yet highly approachable look at more unassisted methods of consciousness exploration, including such modalities as meditation, channeling, energy work, out-of-body experiences, and lucid dreaming. Finally, we shift simultaneously to more scientific and philosophic motifs, delving into quantum physics, the nature of consciousness, the universe/multiverse, and the death experience.Piercing the Veil paints a vivid and compelling picture showing that the limited spectrum of consciousness we're usually aware of is part of a continuum of energy and life extending well beyond the physical world. In fact, consciousness itself appears to be the bedrock from which our reality blossoms. Piercing the Veil provides the requisite framework for confirming this invaluable knowledge firsthand. The rest is up to you.

Book What is Reality

Download or read book What is Reality written by Ervin Laszlo and published by SelectBooks, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ervin Laszlo's tour de force, What is Reality?, is the product of a half-century of deep contemplation and cutting-edge scholarship. Addressing many of the paradoxes that have confounded modern science over the years, it offers nothing less than a new paradigm of reality, one in which the cosmos is a seamless whole, informed by a single, coherent consciousness manifest in us all. Bringing together science, philosophy, and metaphysics, Laszlo takes aim at accepted wisdom, such as the dichotomies of mind and body, spirit and matter, being and nonbeing, to show how we are all part of an infinite cycle of existence unfolding in spacetime and beyond. Augmented by insightful commentary from a dozen scholars and thinkers, along with a foreword by Deepak Chopra and an introduction by Stanislav Grof, What is Reality? offers a fresh and liberating understanding of the meaning and purpose of existence.

Hare return with a revised and updated edition of their essential guide. All of us at some point have—or will—come into contact with psychopathic individuals. So how can we protect ourselves and our organizations in a business climate that offers the perfect conditions for psychopaths to thrive? In Snakes in Suits, Hare, an expert on the scientific study of psychopathy, and Babiak, an industrial and organizational psychologist and a leading authority on the corporate psychopath, examine the role of psychopaths in modern corporations and provide the tools employers can use to avoid and deal with them. Book Silence and Silences

Download or read book Silence and Silences written by Wallis Wilde-Menozzi and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A meditation on the infinite search for meanings in silence, from Wallis Wilde-Menozzi, the author of The Other Side of the Tiber and Mother Tongue. We need quiet to feel nothing, to hear silence that brings back proportion and the beauty of not knowing except for the outlines of what we live every day. Something inner settles. The right to silence unmediated by social judgment. Sitting at a table in an empty kitchen, peeling an apple, I wait for its next transformation. For a few seconds, the red, mottled, dangling skin unwinds what happened to it on earth. Wallis Wilde-Menozzi set out to touch silence for brief experiences of what is real. In images, dreams, and actions, the challenge leads to her heart as a writer. The pages of Silence and Silences form a vast tapestry of meanings shaped by many forces outside personal circumstance. Moving closer, the reader notices intricacies that shift when touched. As the writer steps aside, there is cosmic joy, biological truth, historical injustice. The reader finds women’s voices and women’s silences, sees Agnes Martin’s thin, fine lines and D. H. Lawrence’s artful letters, and becomes a part of Wilde-Menozzi’s examination of the ever-changing self. COVID-19 thrusts itself into the unbounded narrative, and isolation brings with it a new kind of stillness. As Wilde-Menozzi writes, “Reading a book is a way of withdrawing into silence. It is a way of seeing and listening, of pulling back from what is happening at that very moment.” The author has created a record of how we tell ourselves stories, how we think and how we know. Above all, she has made silence a presence as rich as time on the page and given readers space to discover what that means to a life.

Download or read book The Veil of Isis written by Pierre Hadot and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly twenty-five hundred years ago the Greek thinker Heraclitus supposedly uttered the cryptic words "Phusis kruptesthai philei." How the aphorism, usually translated as "Nature loves to hide," has haunted Western culture ever since is the subject of this engaging study by Pierre Hadot. Taking the allegorical figure of the veiled goddess Isis as a guide, and drawing on the work of both the ancients and later thinkers such as Goethe, Rilke, Wittgenstein, and Heidegger, Hadot traces successive interpretations of Heraclitus' words. Over time, Hadot finds, "Nature loves to hide" has meant that all that lives tends to die; that Nature wraps herself in myths; and (for Heidegger) that Being unveils as it veils itself. Meanwhile the pronouncement has been used to explain everything from the opacity of the natural world to our modern angst. From these kaleidoscopic exegeses and usages emerge two contradictory approaches to nature: the Promethean, or experimental-questing, approach, which embraces technology as a means of tearing the veil from Nature and revealing her secrets; and the Orphic, or contemplative-poetic, approach, according to which such a denuding of Nature is a grave trespass. In place of these two attitudes Hadot proposes one suggested by the Romantic vision of Rousseau, Goethe, and Schelling, who saw in the veiled Isis an allegorical expression of the sublime. "Nature is art and art is nature," Hadot writes, inviting us to embrace Isis and all she represents: art makes us intensely aware of how completely we ourselves are not merely surrounded by nature but also part of nature.

Book The Three Veils of Ibn Oraybi

  • Author : Vincent Czyz

  • Release : 2021-07-06
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 67 pages

Download or read book The Three Veils of Ibn Oraybi written by Vincent Czyz and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-07-06 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vincent Czyz, author of the #1 Kindle bestseller The Christos Mosaic and the award-winning Adrift in a Vanishing City, has crafted a tale of regret, revenge, and redemption--set in the fading Ottoman Empire of the nineteenth century. Accused of heresy by a powerful Ottoman pasha, an aging Turkish alchemist flees his native Constantinople, exiling himself to a small town in the hinterlands of the East. A Muslim and a foreigner, as well as a man of letters, he finds life among a populace of stubbornly pagan peasants difficult. Yet when the pasha tracks him down, Ibn Oraybi realizes that the rural folk he's settled among are quick witted, resourceful, and fiercely loyal. Suspecting he has more to learn from them than they do from him, he reveals the secret that has haunted him for so much of his life. The Three Veils of Ibn Oraybi entreats readers to let go of the unalterable past and explore new vistas and alternative worldviews. Praise for The Three Veils... "I loved ever fluttering veil." -- Albert Goldbath, Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry "Czyz weaves mystery, history, religious fervor, and social inspection into this story of struggle, which ends with a surprising twist... Its lovely, lyrical language and thought-provoking encounters not only bring the times to life but explore the politics and psychological profiles of cultures that lived side by side, but in very different worlds." -- D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review "The Three Veils of Ibn Oraybi is an enchantment, that rare fusion of poetry and fiction, intellectual query and sensuous revelation, narrative tension and ease of telling, that I hope for each time I open a new work. In the context of a deadly struggle between dogma and reason, it spins a tale of loyalty and betrayal in which powerless women alter the fates of powerful men. Enriched by pagan and Islamic lore, it transports the reader in fresh ways to wise places. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down until I finished it." -- Donald Levering, author of Previous Lives and winner of the Tor House Robinson Jeffers Prize in Poetry Praise for Vincent Czyz... "There are people who can write ripping yarns. And there are people who can write fine, risk-taking prose. Not that many can do both ... Vincent Czyz pulls off that daring double-feat with style and verve." -- Peter Blauner, author of Slow Motion Riot and Sunrise Highway "Czyz is more than a bit mystical; indeed, he searches for rapture ... What he's really after, however, is to find mystery within mystery, to have experiences he cannot live without yet cannot pin down." -- Paul West, author of The Place in Flowers Where Pollen Rests Praise for Adrift in a Vanishing City... "Deeply romantic ... and darkly evocative, Czyz's lush style explores regions well beyond simple narrative, probing the constantly shifting, oblique connections between failure, memory and the forever-incomplete nature of human desire. A moody, gorgeous and formally innovative collection, Adrift deserves a wide audience ... who understand[s] that fiction is about more than getting a character from one room to the next." -- Greg Burkman, The Seattle Times "The writing, more like poetry than prose, calls attention to language, to the fullness of a word, a sentence, with the purpose of expressing inexpressible emotions and experiences ... Adrift is ... lyrical and pensive, an odd and often beautiful portrait of longing." -- Capper Nichols, Minnesota Daily "Even as these stories sprawl they vanish, even as they roam and carve, as plotlines wheel off on their own orbits, so too do they come clawing back together." -- Nate Liederbach, Logos Journal
