Why does a goalie look like a Hall of Famer one week and a candidate for the minor leagues the next? Book excerpt: He never wanted to be anyone’s hero… Some would call me irrevocably broken. I submerge myself in long work hours by day and debauchery at The Wicked Horse by night, using those things to numb the pain and guilt I feel over the death of my wife. What isn’t satisfied by one will surely be resolved by the other. At least that’s how I’ve survived the last few years. But things change when Hannah Madigan shows up at my door, the newest employee sent by the company that cleans my apartment. Beat down by life, not to mention a cheating husband who was unfairly awarded custody of their daughter, Hannah is determined to make a better life for herself and get her kid back, even if it means working three jobs to do so. One costly mistake puts Hannah in my debt, and I’m not about to let the chance to have this dark-haired beauty pass me by. She’s given a golden opportunity… Determined to stay the course by any means necessary, Hannah accepts my less than professional offer. I’ll give her a job. She’ll give me her body. Sounds easy, right? Until the scales tip and I find myself needing her in ways I’m not ready to admit. Until I find that saving someone else may just mean allowing myself to be saved in return.

Many know the heroic story of Jim Elliot’s violent death in 1956, killed along with four other missionaries by a primitive Ecuadorian tribe they were seeking to reach. Many also know the prolific legacy of Elisabeth Elliot, whose inspiring influence on generations of believers through print, broadcast, and personal testimony continues to resonate, even after her own death in 2015. What many don’t know is the remarkable story of how these two stalwart personalities—single-mindedly devoted to pursuing God’s will for their young lives, certain their future callings would require them to sacrifice forever the blessings of marriage—found their hearts intertwined. Their paths to God’s purpose led them together. Now, for the first time, their only child—daughter Valerie Elliot Shepard—unseals never-before-published letters and private journals that capture in first-person intimacy the attraction, struggle, drama, and devotion that became a most unlikely love story. Riveting for old and young alike, this moving account of their personal lives shines as a gold mine of lived-out truth, hard-fought purity, and an insider’s view on two beloved Christian figures.
Download or read book Court Justice written by Ed O'Bannon and published by Diversion Books. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Like Curt Flood and Oscar Robertson, who paved the way for free agency in sports, Ed O’Bannon decided there was a principle at stake... O’Bannon gave the movement to reform college sports...passion and purpose, animated by righteous indignation.” —Jeremy Schaap, ESPN journalist and New York Times bestselling author In 2009, Ed O’Bannon, once a star for the 1995 NCAA Champion UCLA Bruins and a first-round NBA draft pick, thought he’d made peace with the NCAA’s exploitive system of “amateurism.” College athletes generated huge profits, yet—training nearly full-time, forced to tailor coursework around sports, often pawns in corrupt investigations—they saw little from those riches other than revocable scholarships and miniscule chances of going pro. Still, that was all in O’Bannon’s past...until he saw the video game NCAA Basketball 09. As avatars of their college selves—their likenesses, achievements, and playing styles—O’Bannon and his teammates were still making money for the NCAA. So, when asked to fight the system for players past, present, and future—and seeking no personal financial reward, but rather the chance to make college sports more fair—he agreed to be the face of what became a landmark class-action lawsuit. Court Justice brings readers to the front lines of a critical battle in the long fight for players’ rights while also offering O’Bannon’s unique perspective on today’s NCAA recruiting scandals. From the basketball court to the court of law facing NCAA executives, athletic directors, and “expert” witnesses; and finally to his innovative ideas for reform, O’Bannon breaks down history’s most important victory yet against the inequitable model of multi-billion-dollar “amateur” sports.

Download or read book The Drone Show Celebrating Vegas Golden Knights 2023 Stanley Cup Championship written by David Heath and published by David Heath. This book was released on with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Saturday, June 17th, 2023; The Vegas Golden Knights celebrated with their adoring fans at Toshiba Plaza just east of T-Mobile Arena. Unbeknownst to us, a drone show had been planned, paid for, and was already in the works for us revelers below. The drone show contractor was the amazing folks and UAS/UAV pilots from Sky Elements USA! Personally, I was expecting a ton of crazy fireworks. However, I spotted just over the Toshiba Plaza Parking Structure the drones en route to their airborne stage. I started flying drones in 2015. I have been a tenured drone (UAS UAV) pilot for 8.5 years. I consider myself a seasoned veteran when it comes to dynamic drone aerial videography. I had seen drone shows that were spectacular at the Disney World theme parks and Universal Orlando. They used to have large screens placed around the park and viewing areas. They projected video on sheets of fountain water and the leaves of the nearby trees, which looks rather slick. Then I saw an animated Disney one with the infamous animated characters “goofing around” in the night sky. I was driving the I-4 corridor coming back from Clearwater Beach, FL; and I saw another one that looked like Universal Orlando’s as I drove past the attractions. It was very cool, but the Disney drone show was slightly better. This was five years ago approximately when I attended or viewed these shows in Florida. None were as sensational as 6/17/23. You can actually see individual tree leaves and dark/unlit drones in the sky in this Ultra High Definition video captured. If you are patient when loading your video, The 4K UHD playback experience will be well worth it on a compatible screen. I also included a short biography of my experience piloting drones since 2015. My tenth drone is a DJI drone. My favorite drone to fly and perform aerial video capture with, in 4K UHD mind you, was my Yuneec Typhoon Q450. The drone I piloted a dozen times over South Beach, Middle Beach, and North Beach in Miami Beach, FL was my Yuneec Typhoon Q450. I hope that this becomes a loved 4K UHD video that can be considered a time capsule hockey fan gem. 'Go Knights Go!' Defeat The Fortress Dragon with a REPEAT championship title next season in The 2024 Realm of Knights on ice! "We GOT the Cup!" baby...
Download or read book Beating the Odds The Las Vegas Golden Knights written by D. Farang and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The entitled Las Vegas Golden Knights got the best players ever in any NHL draft; they are a supremely cocky, hard-working and resilient bunch with a huge chip on its collective shoulder. Perhaps the NHL teams that Vegas "raped" in the expansion draft should play the Knights with an equally big chip on their own collective shoulders. Heading into their first season, the Golden Knights were listed as 500 to 1 long shots to win the Stanley Cup and as a result, sports books in Las Vegas were due to take quite a hit had they pulled off the win. Director of trading Nick Bogdanovich said, "the estimates I heard around town of $5 or $6 million losses sounded about right," adding that it was the biggest liability he'd seen since William Hill U.S. was formed. As the Golden Knights progressed through the season and proved to be a veritable force in the league, odds makers had to find creative ways to hedge against the potential of a Stanley Cup win. Some sports books offered a "field" bet that allowed them to offset some of their risks, but even with the adjustments, a Golden Knights win was still a significant financial liability.Despite this, many of those running the sports books said they would have traded the huge financial hit if it meant their newfound team got to raise Lord Stanley's Cup in their first season. Alas, it was not to be, but the Golden Knights beat the odds - going from 500 to 1 underdogs - to 9-2 favorites to win the the Stanley Cup. That they lost to the Washington Capitals is no shame. For the 2018-2019 NHL season, the Golden Knights are now listed as 10 to 1 favorites to win it all in their second season. It'll be a real challenge for the NHL darling Las Vegas Golden Knights to Beat the Odds again. However, bet against them at your peril.
