Book On the Asymptotic Power of the Variance Ratio Test

Download or read book On the Asymptotic Power of the Variance Ratio Test written by Rohit Deo and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The variance ratio test statistic, which is based on k-period differences of the data, iscommonly used in empirical finance and economics to test the random walk hypothesis. We obtain the asymptotic power function of the variance ratio test statistic when the differencing period k is increasing with the sample size n such that k/n ' acute; gt; 0. We show that the test is inconsistent against a variety of mean reverting alternatives, confirm the result in simulations, and then characterise the functional form of the asymptotic power in terms of acute; and these alternatives.

Book Variance Ratio Tests and High Frequency Data

Download or read book Variance Ratio Tests and High Frequency Data written by Tirthankar C. Patnaik and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper tests for market efficiency at high-frequencies of the Indian equity markets by studying the behaviour of serial correlation in firm stock prices. We do this using the Variance Ratio test using returns data at a frequency of 5 minutes. We find that at this frequency interval, stocks show a pattern of mean-reversion. We also find that different stocks revert at different rates. Microstructure literature suggests that there is a correlation between the efficiency of a stock price and the liquidity of the stock on the market. We examine this hypothesis with liquidity measured in terms of both trading intensity as well as impact cost. We find strong evidence that there is a link between the liquidity of a stock and the patterns of serial correlations in its market price at high frequency.

Book Financial Economics and Econometrics

Download or read book Financial Economics and Econometrics written by Nikiforos T. Laopodis and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financial Economics and Econometrics provides an overview of the core topics in theoretical and empirical finance, with an emphasis on applications and interpreting results. Structured in five parts, the book covers financial data and univariate models; asset returns; interest rates, yields and spreads; volatility and correlation; and corporate finance and policy. Each chapter begins with a theory in financial economics, followed by econometric methodologies which have been used to explore the theory. Next, the chapter presents empirical evidence and discusses seminal papers on the topic. Boxes offer insights on how an idea can be applied to other disciplines such as management, marketing and medicine, showing the relevance of the material beyond finance. Readers are supported with plenty of worked examples and intuitive explanations throughout the book, while key takeaways, ‘test your knowledge’ and ‘test your intuition’ features at the end of each chapter also aid student learning. Digital supplements including PowerPoint slides, computer codes supplements, an Instructor’s Manual and Solutions Manual are available for instructors. This textbook is suitable for upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses on financial economics, financial econometrics, empirical finance and related quantitative areas.

Book Financial Econometrics

Download or read book Financial Econometrics written by Christian Gourieroux and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2022-12-13 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financial econometrics is a great success story in economics. Econometrics uses data and statistical inference methods, together with structural and descriptive modeling, to address rigorous economic problems. Its development within the world of finance is quite recent and has been paralleled by a fast expansion of financial markets and an increasing variety and complexity of financial products. This has fueled the demand for people with advanced econometrics skills. For professionals and advanced graduate students pursuing greater expertise in econometric modeling, this is a superb guide to the field's frontier. With the goal of providing information that is absolutely up-to-date—essential in today's rapidly evolving financial environment—Gourieroux and Jasiak focus on methods related to foregoing research and those modeling techniques that seem relevant to future advances. They present a balanced synthesis of financial theory and statistical methodology. Recognizing that any model is necessarily a simplified image of reality and that econometric methods must be adapted and applied on a case-by-case basis, the authors employ a wide variety of data sampled at frequencies ranging from intraday to monthly. These data comprise time series representing both the European and North American markets for stocks, bonds, and foreign currencies. Practitioners are encouraged to keep a critical eye and are armed with graphical diagnostics to eradicate misspecification errors. This authoritative, state-of-the-art reference text is ideal for upper-level graduate students, researchers, and professionals seeking to update their skills and gain greater facility in using econometric models. All will benefit from the emphasis on practical aspects of financial modeling and statistical inference. Doctoral candidates will appreciate the inclusion of detailed mathematical derivations of the deeper results as well as the more advanced problems concerning high-frequency data and risk control. By establishing a link between practical questions and the answers provided by financial and statistical theory, the book also addresses the needs of applied researchers employed by financial institutions.

Download or read book Subsampling written by Dimitris N. Politis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Efron's profound paper on the bootstrap, an enormous amount of effort has been spent on the development of bootstrap, jacknife, and other resampling methods. The primary goal of these computer-intensive methods has been to provide statistical tools that work in complex situations without imposing unrealistic or unverifiable assumptions about the data generating mechanism. This book sets out to lay some of the foundations for subsampling methodology and related methods.
