Book Fatigue of Materials at Very High Numbers of Loading Cycles

Download or read book Fatigue of Materials at Very High Numbers of Loading Cycles written by Hans-Jürgen Christ and published by Springer Spektrum. This book was released on 2018-12-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the final reports of the scientific projects funded within the DFG-SPP1466 and, hence, provides the reader with the possibility to familiarize with the leading edge of VHCF research. It draws a balance on the existing knowledge and its enhancement by the joint research action of the priority program. Three different material classes are dealt with: structural metallic materials, long-fiber-reinforced polymers and materials used in micro-electro-mechanical systems. The project topics address the development of suitable experimental techniques for high-frequency testing and damage monitoring, the characterization of damage mechanisms and damage evolution, the development of mechanism-based models and the transfer of the obtained knowledge and understanding into engineering regulations and applications.

Book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation

Download or read book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation written by Donald O. Thompson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993 with total page 2488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the current volume, consisting of Parts A and B, edited vers ions of most of the papers presented at the annual Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation held at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine on July 28-August 2, 1991 have been collected. The Review was organized by the Center for NDE at Iowa State University and the Ames Laboratory of the USDOE in cooperation with a number of organizations including the Air Force Materials Directorate, Wright Laboratory, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, the Center for NDE at Johns Hopkins University, Department of Energy, Federal Aviation Administration, National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Science Foundation IndustryjUniversity Cooperative Research Centers, and the Office of Naval Research. The 1991 Review of Progress in QNDE was attended by approximately 450 participants from the US and many foreign countries who presented over 360 papers. Divided into 36 sessions, with as many as four sessions running concurrently, the meeting covered all phases of NDE development from basic research to engineering applications and all methods of inspection science from acoustics to x-rays. Over the past ten years, the participants of the Review have seen it grow into one of the largest and most significant gatherings of NDE researchers and engineers anywhere in the world. By sharing their work at this conference, they deserve much credit for its success.

Book Fatigue of Structures and Materials

Download or read book Fatigue of Structures and Materials written by J. Schijve and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-16 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue of structures and materials covers a wide scope of different topics. The purpose of the present book is to explain these topics, to indicate how they can be analyzed, and how this can contribute to the designing of fatigue resistant structures and to prevent structural fatigue problems in service. Chapter 1 gives a general survey of the topic with brief comments on the signi?cance of the aspects involved. This serves as a kind of a program for the following chapters. The central issues in this book are predictions of fatigue properties and designing against fatigue. These objectives cannot be realized without a physical and mechanical understanding of all relevant conditions. In Chapter 2 the book starts with basic concepts of what happens in the material of a structure under cyclic loads. It illustrates the large number of variables which can affect fatigue properties and it provides the essential background knowledge for subsequent chapters. Different subjects are presented in the following main parts: • Basic chapters on fatigue properties and predictions (Chapters 2–8) • Load spectra and fatigue under variable-amplitude loading (Chapters 9–11) • Fatigue tests and scatter (Chapters 12 and 13) • Special fatigue conditions (Chapters 14–17) • Fatigue of joints and structures (Chapters 18–20) • Fiber-metal laminates (Chapter 21) Each chapter presents a discussion of a speci?c subject.
