Book Field Results of Hydrocarbon Vapor Monitoring to Detect Leaking Tanks

Download or read book Field Results of Hydrocarbon Vapor Monitoring to Detect Leaking Tanks written by PB. Durgin and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vapor monitoring for leak detection around underground storage tanks (UST) is generally regarded as being plagued by false alarms. Examples of field data from six sites are provided. Vapor monitoring indicates real leak or spill events but methods are needed to differentiate between the two. Site assessment, appropriate installation of monitoring points, overfill/spill protection, and data analysis are all important factors for a well-operating vapor monitoring system. Vapor monitoring may gain importance over time as systems are improved, subsurface contamination is reduced, and demands increase for providing assurance that sites are clean.

Book Analysis of UST Leak Vapor Diffusion and Liquid Build Up

Download or read book Analysis of UST Leak Vapor Diffusion and Liquid Build Up written by RP. Schreiber and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for improved leak detection and corrective action has prompted research into the movement of hydrocarbon vapors from leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) as well as the build-up of liquid hydrocarbon on the water table. This research has included the development of two evaluation techniques, one for simulating vapor diffusion from an UST leak and another for simulating the mounding of leaked hydrocarbon liquid. Both techniques are designed to produce approximate estimates of hydrocarbon movement and build-up, and as such are intended to be used in the early stages of site remediation planning and monitoring. The result of the research is a set of response curves and analytical techniques that can be used in designing monitoring systems and in performing site clean-ups.

Book Comprehensive Monitoring Report for Underground Storage Tank 0134 U at Building 9204 2

Download or read book Comprehensive Monitoring Report for Underground Storage Tank 0134 U at Building 9204 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this document is to present potentiometric, groundwater quality, and vapor monitoring data required for Comprehensive Monitoring of underground storage tank (UST) 0134-U at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant Building 9204-2 Site. Comprehensive monitoring has been conducted at the site as part of a Monitoring Only program approved by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) based on review and approval of Site Ranking (Site Ranking Form approved March 9, 1995). Site Status Monitoring will be conducted semiannually. Comprehensive monitoring and preparation of this report have been conducted in accordance with the requirements of TDEC Rule 1200-1-15 and the TDEC UST Reference Handbook, Second Edition (TDEC 1994) Technical Guidance Document (TGD) 007. In addition, soil and groundwater sampling results that were used to support site ranking are included as part of this report. This document is organized into four sections. Section 1 presents introductory information relative to the site including the regulatory initiative and a site description. Section 2 includes the results of water level measurements and sampling of monitoring wells GW-204, GW-656, GW-805, GW-806, and GW-807. Section 3 presents data from vapor monitoring conducted subsurface utilities present at the site. Section 4 presents the results of soil sampling perform in support of site ranking.
