Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by W. H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing. house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 25 (thesis year 1980) a total of 10,308 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 214 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 25 reports theses submitted in 1980, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Vapor Liquid Equilibria Using Unifac

Download or read book Vapor Liquid Equilibria Using Unifac written by Aage Fredenslund and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vapor-Liquid Equilibria Using UNIFAC: A Group-Contribution Method focuses on the UNIFAC group-contribution method used in predicting quantitative information on the phase equilibria during separation by estimating activity coefficients. Drawing on tested vapor-liquid equilibrium data on which UNIFAC is based, it demonstrates through examples how the method may be used in practical engineering design calculations. Divided into nine chapters, this volume begins with a discussion of vapor and liquid phase nonidealities and how they are calculated in terms of fugacity and activity coefficients, respectively. It then introduces the reader to the UNIFAC method and how it works, the procedure used in establishing the parameters needed for the model, prediction of binary and multicomponent vapor-liquid equilibria for a large number of systems, the potential of UNIFAC for predicting liquid-liquid equilibria, and how UNIFAC can be used to solve practical distillation design problems. This book will benefit process design engineers who want to reliably predict phase equilibria for designing distillation columns and other separation processes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the field of synthetic liquid fuels and organic chemicals there is considerable industrial interest in Fischer-Tropsch-type processes for the production of liquid hydrocarbons and various organic chemicals as by-products. Processes developed primarily for the production of oxygenated organic chemicals by partial oxidation of paraffin hydrocarbons are also in commercial operation. For both processes, recovery and purification of the product constituents by fractional distillation constitute a major problem. Of primary importance to solutions of the problem are the availability of reliable vapor-liquid equilibrium data on the various systems encountered. The need for suitable data is increased by the fact that practically all existing vapor-liquid equilibrium data are for atmospheric pressure only, whereas actual distillation operations are most frequently conducted at pressure above one atmosphere because of favorable economics, design, operations, and control requirements. It is obvious that reliable data at pressure other than one atmosphere and in particular, superatmospheric data are needed. More fundamentally important however, is the need for complete and extended data to evaluate and test the applicability of proposed correlations of the vapor-liquid data. Such extension and correlation involve the change of vapor-liquid equilibria with temperature or pressure, the determination of these data with a minimum of experimental effort, and the extension of binary data into reliable ternary data. Of the numerous oxygenated components produced by the aforementioned processes, acetone, methanol, and water constitute the major portion of the crude products. Binary and ternary systems containing these components have been evaluated and the results reported herein"--Leaves iii-iv
