Book Physical chemical Aspects of Bubble Formation

Download or read book Physical chemical Aspects of Bubble Formation written by Kenneth G. Ikels and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biophysical concepts regarding the production and growth of bubbles in gas-supersaturated solutions were considered with reference to the problem of decompression sickness. It was demonstrated that solutions, including blood, which are free of gas nuclei do not form bubbles in response to decompression alone, despite the presence of large amounts of dissolved gas. Such findings emphasize that the comprehensive understanding of decompression sickness requires elucidation of the basic physical-chemical factors responsible for cavitation or initiation of nuclei in solutions. Observations were made on a mechanism for producing nuclei by continuous contact and separation of surfaces (tribonucleation). Unlike several other possible mechanisms, tribonucleation was shown to be capable of producing nuclei from which bubble growth occurs under the relatively mild experimental conditions that can be encountered in vivo. Book Bubble Systems

Download or read book Bubble Systems written by Alexander A. Avdeev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a systematic analysis of bubble system mathematics, using the mechanics of two-phase systems in non-equilibrium as the scope of analysis. The author introduces the thermodynamic foundations of bubble systems, ranging from the fundamental starting points to current research challenges. This book addresses a range of topics, including description methods of multi-phase systems, boundary and initial conditions as well as coupling requirements at the phase boundary. Moreover, it presents a detailed study of the basic problems of bubble dynamics in a liquid mass: growth (dynamically and thermally controlled), collapse, bubble pulsations, bubble rise and breakup. Special emphasis is placed on bubble dynamics in turbulent flows. The analysis results are used to write integral equations governing the rate of vapor generation (condensation) in non-equilibrium flows, thus creating a basis for solving a number of practical problems. This book is the first to present a comprehensive theory of boiling shock with applications to problems of critical discharge and flashing under the fast decompression conditions. Reynolds’ analogy was the key to solving a number of problems in subcooled forced-flow boiling, the theoretical results of which led to easy-to-use design formulas. This book is primarily aimed at graduate and post-graduate students specializing in hydrodynamics or heat and mass transfer, as well as research expert focused on two-phase flow. It will also serve as a comprehensive reference book for designers working in the field of power and aerospace technology.

Book The Growth and Collapse of Vapor Bubbles

Download or read book The Growth and Collapse of Vapor Bubbles written by S. A. Zwick and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory is developed which describes the behavior of a vapor bubble in a liquid. Its physical basis is the assumption that the heat transfer effects which accompany the evaporation occurring at the bubble wall when the bubble grows, or the condensation that occurs there when the bubble collapses, are dynamically important. The basic equations of hydrodynamics are shown to reduce, for the problem under consideration, to a dynamic equation which describes the behavior of the bubble wall, and a heat convection equation for the liquid which is coupled to the dynamic equation by a boundary condition at the bubble surface. A solution for the heat problem is obtained under the assumption that significant temperature variation in the liquid occurs only in a thin thermal boundary layer surrounding the bubble wall. An estimate of the correction to the temperature solution is also derived. Once the temperature at the bubble wall is given, the vapor pressure within the bubble is known and the dynamic problem becomes determinate.

  • Pages : 902 pages

Download or read book Modeling Volcanic Processes written by Sarah A. Fagents and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-11 with total page 902 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the physical behavior of volcanoes is key to mitigating the hazards active volcanoes pose to the ever-increasing populations living nearby. The processes involved in volcanic eruptions are driven by a series of interlinked physical phenomena, and to fully understand these, volcanologists must employ various physics subdisciplines. This book provides the first advanced-level, one-stop resource examining the physics of volcanic behavior and reviewing the state-of-the-art in modeling volcanic processes. Each chapter begins by explaining simple modeling formulations and progresses to present cutting-edge research illustrated by case studies. Individual chapters cover subsurface magmatic processes through to eruption in various environments and conclude with the application of modeling to understanding the other volcanic planets of our Solar System. Providing an accessible and practical text for graduate students of physical volcanology, this book is also an important resource for researchers and professionals in the fields of volcanology, geophysics, geochemistry, petrology and natural hazards.

Book THE GROWTH OF VAPOR BUBBLES IN SUPER HEATED LIQUIDS

Download or read book THE GROWTH OF VAPOR BUBBLES IN SUPER HEATED LIQUIDS written by and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growth of a vapor bubble in a superheated liquid is controlled by the inertia of the liquid, the surface tension, and the vapor pressure. As the bubble grows, evaporation takes place at the bubble boundary, and the temperature and vapor pressure in the bubble are decreased. The heat inflow requirement of evaporation, however, depends on the rate of bubble growth, so that the dynamic problem is linked with a heat diffusion problem. Since the heat diffusion problem has been solved, a quantitative formulation of the dynamic problem can be given. A solution for the radius of the vapor bubble as a function of time is obtained. This asymptotic solution covers the range of physical interest since the radius at which it becomes valid is near the lower limit of experimental observation. It shows the strong effect of heat diffusion on the rate of bubble growth. Comparison of the predicted radius-time behavior with experimental observations in superheated water shows good agreement.
