Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This set includes all four books of the Heroines Behind the Lines Series: Wedded to War, Widow of Gettysburg, Yankee in Atlanta, and Spy of Richmond. The Heroines Behind the Lines Series highlights the crucial contributions made by women during the Civil War. In Wedded to War, Charlotte chooses a life of service over privilege, just as her childhood friend had done when he became a military doctor. She soon discovers that she’s combatting more than just the rebellion by becoming a nurse. Will the two men who love her simply stand by and watch as she fights her own battles? Or will their desire for her wage war on her desire to serve God? In Widow of Gettysburg, the farm of Union widow Liberty Holloway is disfigured into a Confederate field hospital, bringing her face to face with unspeakable suffering—and a Confederate scout who awakens her long dormant heart. Will Liberty be defined by the tragedy in her life, or will she find a way to triumph over it? In Yankee in Atlanta, soldier Caitlin McKae wakes up in Atlanta after being wounded in battle. The Georgian doctor who treated her believed Caitlin's only secret was that she had been fighting for the Confederacy disguised as a man. To avoid arrest or worse, Caitlin hides her true identity and makes a new life for herself in Atlanta. When Sherman’s troops edge closer to Atlanta, Caitlin tries to escape north, but is arrested on charges of being a spy. Will honor dictate that Caitlin follow the rules, or love demand that she break them? In Spy of Richmond, Union loyalist Sophie Kent attempts to end the war from within the Confederate capital, but she can’t do it alone. As Sophie’s spy network grows, she walks a tightrope of deception, using her father’s position as newspaper editor and a suitor’s position in the ordnance bureau. When her espionage endangers the people she loves, she's forced to make a life-and-death gamble.

Book A Story of the Fifth Longest Held Pow in Us History

Download or read book A Story of the Fifth Longest Held Pow in Us History written by Ray Vohden and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-11-21 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 12 February 1973, after nearly eight years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam, I became a free man. Although I still had to serve a couple of years at stateside hospitals to salvage a badly wounded leg, my new quarters seemed princely compared to my squalid prison cells. Furloughed from the Navy hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and facing a long, solitary drive to my parents home in New Jersey, I decided to bring a tape recorder along and recount my experiences while the memories were still fresh. Maybe someday I would write a book. I knew I had a unique vantage point and a story to tell. As the fourth U.S. pilot shot down in North Vietnam, I was one of the oldest of the old-timers among the POWs. During my captivity, the number of Americans killed in the war grew from sixty to nearly sixty thousand, and the treatment of POWs shifted from neglectful to brutal to halfway humane. Moreover, of the nearly six hundred Americans held prisoner in North Vietnam, I may have had the widest range of experiences.

Book Colors of Art

  • Author : Chloë Ashby
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2022-08-30
  • ISBN : 071127939X
  • Pages : 258 pages

Download or read book Colors of Art written by Chloë Ashby and published by . This book was released on 2022-08-30 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colors of Art takes the reader on a journey through history via 80 carefully curated artworks and their palettes. For these pieces, color is not only a tool (like a paintbrush or a canvas) but the fundamental secret to their success. Color allows artists to express their individuality, evoke certain moods, and portray positive or negative subliminal messages. And throughout history the greatest of artists have experimented with new pigments and new technologies to lead movements and deliver masterpieces. But, as something so cardinal, we sometimes forget how poignant color palettes can be, and how much they can tell us. When Vermeer painted The Milkmaid, the amount of ultramarine he could use was written in the contract. How did that affect how he used it? When Turner experimented with Indian Yellow, he captured roaring flames that brought his paintings to life. If he had used a more ordinary yellow, would he have created something so extraordinary? And how did Warhol throw away the rulebook to change what color could achieve? Structured chronologically, Colors of Art provides a fun, intelligent, and visually engaging look at the greatest artistic palettes in art history – from Rafael’s use of perspective and Vermeer’s ultramarine, to Andy Warhol’s hot pinks, and Lisa Brice’s blue women. Colors of Art offers a refreshing take on the subject and acts as a primer for artists, designers, and art lovers who want to look at art history from a different perspective.

The Importance Of Eating Raw Eating raw will deliver many of the same benefits as going alkaline, such as a higher energy level and improved health conditions. Eating raw also delivers another jolt of life force to your food. The dominant thought behind raw foods is that they are living foods, as opposed to dead foods, which have had the nutrition cooked out of them. Cooked foods can lose up to 85% of the nutrients you otherwise would have received. The Importance Of Eating Alkaline-Based Foods According to the Science of Dr. Robert Young author of “The pH Miracle”, the pH level of the body must be higher alkaline to ensure optimal health. Studies show that an alkaline body can help to prevent serious health problems, such as: Obesity, Diabetes, Asthma, High-Blood Pressure, Arthritis, Heart Disease and more. Chef Sal shares his philosophy of staying energized and keeping young through a lifestyle of healthy living through exercise, diet and a positive outlook.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While boarding an airplane from South Africa to Europe, the poet lives through a series of unusual magical experiences. Since his 'other half' has corresponded with him with E-mails, he senses an underlying urgency to meet again face-to-face. However, this urgency has been building up for many months of absence from their first meeting, but her calls strike a chord within his deeper inside when the bond of love calls for another physical togetherness. Even being through continents apart, her partner will respond immediately. This ballad depicts the emotions felt by the poet during his long flight to Athens. Although twin flames are unique in ESP, the poet has depicted his fears of a successful reunion on one hand, and on the other, the joys of holding his love in his arms again. How long will it be possible to nurture a genuine twin flame relationship that will be fulfilling for both? Could they both keep their physical desires aflame? Could their mental strength for continuation persist to carry on for another year or two? Right from the start of their unusual relationship they had agreed never to promise anything to each other. Will his effort in this 'flight for love and hope' come to fruition for them both?

Book Indentations and Other Stories

Download or read book Indentations and Other Stories written by Joe Schall and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 1990-12-01 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indentation and Other Stories is a collection of nine stories ranging from the wildly funny and idiosyncratic to the downright bizarre. The title story features a pathological dentist who seeks a quirky catharsis by decorating his apartment in hygienic dental paraphernalia. Other tales frolic through the lives of characters who border on the delightfully absurd: a woman, after going through menopause, struggles to recreate her menstrual periods by altering her diet; a former New York street reporter, fired because of his "ideals," aspires to become a credible street person and decides, tentatively, to have a religious experience; an English major turned psychologist writes a pseudoscientific "article"—complete with footnotes and a University of New Jersey cover letter—which argues, by example, for the use of figurative language in scientific journal writing. Other stories are more humanizing: "The Perils of Asthma" is a sympathetic lok at a twelve-year-old boy struggling to grow up amidst his perplexing asthma, his eccentric Catholic parents, and his mystifying quasi-erections. All of the stories are grounded in the allure of language, the luxuriance of detail, and the celebration of human compulsion and obsession.
