Book Investment Size and Firm s Value Under Profit Sharing Regulation

Download or read book Investment Size and Firm s Value Under Profit Sharing Regulation written by Michele Moretto and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this article we analyse the effects of different regulatory schemes (price cap and profit sharing) on a firm's investment of endogenous size. Using a real option approach in continuous time, we show that profit sharing does not affect a firm's start-up decision relative to a pure price cap scheme. Unless the threshold after which profit sharing intervenes is very high, however, introducing a profit sharing element delays further investments: this decreases the present value of total investment. We also evaluate the reduction in the firm's value due to profit sharing, linking this reduction to the option value of future investments.

Book Valuation of Unlisted Direct Investment Equity

Download or read book Valuation of Unlisted Direct Investment Equity written by Emmanuel O. Kumah and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2009-11-01 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper analyzes the seven valuation methods for unlisted direct investment equity included in the recently adopted IMF Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual, Sixth Edition (BPM6). Based on publicly available Danish data, we test the three methods that are generally applicable and find that the choice of valuation method and estimation technique can have a highly significant impact on the international investment position, pointing to the need for further harmonization. The results show that the price-to-book value method generates more robust market value estimates than the price-to-earnings method. This finding suggests that the valuation basis for the forthcoming Coordinated Direct Investment Survey - own funds at book value -will provide useful information for compiling the international investment position.

Book Money Valuation and Growth

Download or read book Money Valuation and Growth written by Hasse Ekstedt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have experienced an era of extreme anti-inflationary policy combined with debts and deficits, the result of which has been a decrease in social stability. This book examines how using mainstream theory as the basis for economic decisions leads to misunderstandings of central concepts of our economic reality. It aims to establish a better understanding of the discrepancies between the current mainstream economic theory and the economy experienced in business and politics. This ambitious and wide-ranging volume begins the project of rethinking the approach of economics to money. In this new light, concepts such as valuation, price, uncertainty, growth and aggregation are interpreted differently, even as analytical inconsistencies and even intrinsic contradictions between these concepts arise. A central theme of the book is the use of money as a measure and whether the disconnect between money as a form of measurement and money as it is used in the real world can be maintained. This book calls for a radical rethinking of the basis of much of the modern study of economics. It will be of interest to researchers concerned with monetary economics, finance, political economy and economic philosophy.

Book Valuation Approaches and Metrics

Download or read book Valuation Approaches and Metrics written by Aswath Damodaran and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2005 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valuation lies at the heart of much of what we do in finance, whether it is the study of market efficiency and questions about corporate governance or the comparison of different investment decision rules in capital budgeting. In this paper, we consider the theory and evidence on valuation approaches. We begin by surveying the literature on discounted cash flow valuation models, ranging from the first mentions of the dividend discount model to value stocks to the use of excess return models in more recent years. In the second part of the paper, we examine relative valuation models and, in particular, the use of multiples and comparables in valuation and evaluate whether relative valuation models yield more or less precise estimates of value than discounted cash flow models. In the final part of the paper, we set the stage for further research in valuation by noting the estimation challenges we face as companies globalize and become exposed to risk in multiple countries.

Book Pure Profit

Download or read book Pure Profit written by Robert C. Repetto and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study demonstrates a methodology that translates the implications of a company's environmental performance into financial terms. The methodology is forward-looking, deals explicitly with uncertainties regarding future environmental developments, and is consistent with established financial valuation techniques. The approach should also be easily adapted for use by company managers as an internal strategic planning tool. An application of this methodology to 13 leading companies in the US pulp and paper sector shows that pending environmental issues will have material financial impacts on companies in the pulp and paper sector and that these financial exposures vary considerably between companies. Knowing which companies are best positioned with regard to environmental issues could improve investors' decision-making.
