En el futuro, la condición de orgánico o ecológico, más que un factor de diferenciación, será una característica exigida por los consumidores. Dicha condición también resalta la necesidad de intensificar el trabajo de investigación en cultivos bajo el enfoque de agricultura protegida, para incrementar la productividad, disminuir los costos y producir bajo el esquema de producción limpia. En este contexto y bajo un enfoque de agricultura sostenible, el manejo integral del sistema productivo es de gran importancia, por lo que la gestión del recurso suelo y la fertilización equilibrada en cultivos de hortalizas es decisiva para obtener una alta calidad y rendimiento. El riesgo de suministrar dosis de fertilización demasiado bajas, incapaces de satisfacer la demanda del cultivo es no llegar a los rendimientos esperados. El propósito de esta publicación es socializar con los productores hortícolas de la sabana de Bogotá los resultados del proyecto de investigación Desarrollo de estrategias de manejo sostenible del suelo basadas en el uso de materia orgánica para hortalizas de hoja y brásicas, realizado entre enero de 2007 y agosto de 2009 por el Centro de Investigaciones y Asesorías Agroindustriales, CIAA, de la Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano, y cofinanciado por el Ministerio de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural, MADR, y la administradora del Fondo Nacional de Fomento Hortofrutícola, ASOHOFRUCOL.
