Book The Geometric Supposer

Download or read book The Geometric Supposer written by Judah L. Schwartz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a case study of education reform and innovation using technology that examines the issue from a wide variety of perspectives. It brings together the views and experiences of software designers, curriculum writers, teachers and students, researchers and administrators. Thus, it stands in contrast to other analyses of innovation that tend to look through the particular prisms of research, classroom practice, or software design. The Geometric Supposer encourages a belief in a better tomorrow for schools. On its surface, the Geometric Supposer provides the means for radically altering the way in which geometry is taught and the quality of learning that can be achieved. At a deeper level, however, it suggests a powerful metaphor for improving education that can be played out in many different instructional contexts.

  • Pages : 238 pages

Download or read book Knowledge As Design written by David N. Perkins and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1986. We all play the roles of teacher or learner many times in life, in school and home, on the job and even at play. How can we strengthen those roles, striving for deep understanding and sound thinking? Knowledge As Design demonstrates the strong but neglected unity between learning and critical and creative thinking. Author David Perkins discloses how the concept of design opens a doorway into a deeper exploration of any topic, academic or every day. Knowledge As Design challenges the concept of knowledge as information. Drawing from current philosophy and cognitive science, the book shows how learners can attain a new level of insight when learning highlights the constructed and constructive character of knowledge. Any individual involved in formal or informal learning or teaching can benefit from the general outlook and specific principles laid out in this book. It offers a uniquely intelligent philosophy and psychology of understanding and critical and creative thinking.

Book Geometry Revisited

    Book Details:
  • Author : H. S. M. Coxeter
  • Publisher : American Mathematical Society
  • Release : 2021-12-30
  • ISBN : 1470466414
  • Pages : 193 pages

Download or read book Geometry Revisited written by H. S. M. Coxeter and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the many beautiful and nontrivial theorems in geometry found in Geometry Revisited are the theorems of Ceva, Menelaus, Pappus, Desargues, Pascal, and Brianchon. A nice proof is given of Morley's remarkable theorem on angle trisectors. The transformational point of view is emphasized: reflections, rotations, translations, similarities, inversions, and affine and projective transformations. Many fascinating properties of circles, triangles, quadrilaterals, and conics are developed.

Book A Course in Metric Geometry

Download or read book A Course in Metric Geometry written by Dmitri Burago and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2022-01-27 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Metric geometry” is an approach to geometry based on the notion of length on a topological space. This approach experienced a very fast development in the last few decades and penetrated into many other mathematical disciplines, such as group theory, dynamical systems, and partial differential equations. The objective of this graduate textbook is twofold: to give a detailed exposition of basic notions and techniques used in the theory of length spaces, and, more generally, to offer an elementary introduction into a broad variety of geometrical topics related to the notion of distance, including Riemannian and Carnot-Carathéodory metrics, the hyperbolic plane, distance-volume inequalities, asymptotic geometry (large scale, coarse), Gromov hyperbolic spaces, convergence of metric spaces, and Alexandrov spaces (non-positively and non-negatively curved spaces). The authors tend to work with “easy-to-touch” mathematical objects using “easy-to-visualize” methods. The authors set a challenging goal of making the core parts of the book accessible to first-year graduate students. Most new concepts and methods are introduced and illustrated using simplest cases and avoiding technicalities. The book contains many exercises, which form a vital part of the exposition.

Book Introduction to Geometric Computing

Download or read book Introduction to Geometric Computing written by Sherif Ghali and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-05 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computing is quickly making much of geometry intriguing not only for philosophers and mathematicians, but also for scientists and engineers. What is the core set of topics that a practitioner needs to study before embarking on the design and implementation of a geometric system in a specialized discipline? This book attempts to find the answer. Every programmer tackling a geometric computing problem encounters design decisions that need to be solved. This book reviews the geometric theory then applies it in an attempt to find that elusive "right" design.

Book Linear Algebra and Geometry

Download or read book Linear Algebra and Geometry written by Igor R. Shafarevich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-23 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on linear algebra and geometry is based on a course given by renowned academician I.R. Shafarevich at Moscow State University. The book begins with the theory of linear algebraic equations and the basic elements of matrix theory and continues with vector spaces, linear transformations, inner product spaces, and the theory of affine and projective spaces. The book also includes some subjects that are naturally related to linear algebra but are usually not covered in such courses: exterior algebras, non-Euclidean geometry, topological properties of projective spaces, theory of quadrics (in affine and projective spaces), decomposition of finite abelian groups, and finitely generated periodic modules (similar to Jordan normal forms of linear operators). Mathematical reasoning, theorems, and concepts are illustrated with numerous examples from various fields of mathematics, including differential equations and differential geometry, as well as from mechanics and physics.
