Book Using Groundwater Responses to Infer Recharge Part 5

Download or read book Using Groundwater Responses to Infer Recharge Part 5 written by D Armstrong and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical methods of assessing the response of groundwater levels to a range of factors, including elastic (barometric and tidal) influences in confined aquifers and recharge to unconfined aquifers due to infiltration of rain and other surface water, are presented. Responses in a confined aquifer to distant recharge events and the associated time lag is discussed. Also covered are responses to changes in storage volume resulting from direct recharge at the outcrop of an unconfined aquifer system both seasonally and on a single recharge event basis. Worked examples and case histories are used to illustrate methods of estimating the amount of recharge at different sites within a catchment. The application of vertical cross-sectional flow nets to the estimation of recharge is presented in the context of recharge/discharge profiles.

Wright Horton Jr. and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2015-01 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The 2011 Mineral, Virginia, earthquake, the largest to occur in the Appalachian region in more than 100 years, provided new seismologic, engineering, geologic, hydrologic, and geophysical data. This volume makes these results available for geoscientists, engineers, and decision makers interested in understanding earthquakes and seismic hazards in eastern North America and other intraplate settings"--

Book Concepts and Applications in Environmental Geochemistry

Download or read book Concepts and Applications in Environmental Geochemistry written by Dibyendu Sarkar and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-09-14 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is for environmental researchers and government policy makers who are required to monitor environmental quality for their environmental investigators and remediation plans. It uses concepts and applications to aid in the exchange of scientific information across all the environmental science disciplines ranging from geochemistry to hydrogeology and ecology to biotechnology. Focusing on issues such as metals, organics and nutrient contamination of water and soils, and interactions between soil-water-plants-chemicals, the book synthesizes the latest findings in this rapidly-developing, multi-disciplinary field. Cutting-edge environmental analytical methods are also presented, making this a must-have for professionals tasked with monitoring environmental quality. These concepts and applications help in decision making and problem solving in a single resource. *Integrative approach promotes the exchange of scientific information among different disciplines*New concepts and case studies make the text unique among existing resources*Tremendous practical value in environmental quality and remediation with an emphasis on human health and ecological risk assessment

Book Karst Hydrogeology and Geomorphology

Download or read book Karst Hydrogeology and Geomorphology written by Derek Ford and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-05-03 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1989, Karst Geomorphology and Hydrology became the leading textbook on karst studies. This new textbook has been substantially revised and updated. The first half of the book is a systematic presentation of the dissolution kinetics, chemical equilibria and physical flow laws relating to karst environments. It includes details of the many environmental factors that complicate their chemical evolution, with a critique of measurement of karst erosion rates. The second half of the book looks at the classification system for cave systems and the influence of climate and climatic change on karst development. The book ends with chapters on karst water resource management and a look at the important issues of environmental management, including environmental impact assessment, environmental rehabilitation, tourism impacts and conservation values. Practical application of karst studies are explained throughout the text. "This new edition strengthens the book's position as the essential reference in the field. Karst geoscientists will not dare to stray beyond arm's reach of this volume. It is certain to remain the professional standard for many decades." Journal of Cave and Karst Studies, August 2007

Book Surface and Ground Water Weathering and Soils

Download or read book Surface and Ground Water Weathering and Soils written by J.I. Drever and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-11-21 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 5 has several objectives. The first is to present an overview of the composition of surface and ground waters on the continents and the mechanisms that control the compositions. The second is to present summaries of the tools and methodologies used in modern studies of the geochemistry of surface and ground waters. The third is to present information on the role of weathering and soil formation in geochemical cycles: weathering affects the chemistry of the atmosphere through uptake of carbon dioxide and oxygen, and paleosols (preserved soils in the rock record) provide information on the composition of the atmosphere in the geological past. Reprinted individual volume from the acclaimed Treatise on Geochemistry (10 Volume Set, ISBN 0-08-043751-6, published in 2003).
