Download or read book Catalysis written by John R. Anderson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catalytic oxidation processes are bf central importance to a substantial part of large-scale chemical industry. Indeed, this area of industrial catalysis has an extremely long history which stretches back well into the last century. The development and growth of catalytic oxi dation processes for the manufacture of commodities such as sulfuric acid and nitric acid can be viewed as indicators for the growth of the early and middle years of the entire inorganic chemical industry, and in an analogous fashion the manufacture of products such as phthalic anhydride, maleic anhydride and ethylene oxide has been central to the development of an organic chemical industry. We should all be able" to learn from history, and present-day scientists and technologists will find considerable benefit in following the account of the historical development of catalytic oxidation processes presented in Chapter I by Drs. G. Chinchen, P. Davies and R. J. Sampson. Alkenes are important intermediates in many processes in organic chemical industry. Being mostly petroleum derived, the alkene availability pattern does not necessar ily match consumption requirements and an alkene inter conversion process such as metathesis is clearly of in dustrial importance. In fact alkene metathesis, in addi tion to its industrial significance, poses an interesting mechanistic problem. upon which considerable effort has been expended in recent years and which is now fairly well understood.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the PSE community continues its focus on understanding, synthesizing, modeling, designing, simulating, analyzing, diagnosing, operating, controlling, managing, and optimizing a host of chemical and related industries using the systems approach, the boundaries of PSE research have expanded considerably over the years. While early PSE research was largely concerned with individual units and plants, the current research spans wide ranges of scales in size (molecules to processing units to plants to global multinational enterprises to global supply chain networks; biological cells to ecological webs) and time (instantaneous molecular interactions to months of plant operation to years of strategic planning). The changes and challenges brought about by increasing globalization and the the common global issues of energy, sustainability, and environment provide the motivation for the theme of PSE2012: Process Systems Engineering and Decision Support for the Flat World. Each theme includes an invited chapter based on the plenary presentation by an eminent academic or industrial researcher Reports on the state-of-the-art advances in the various fields of process systems engineering Addresses common global problems and the research being done to solve them

Book excerpt: The Fertilizer Manual, 3rd Edition, is a new, fully updated, comprehensive reference on the technology of fertilizer production. The manual contains engineering flow diagrams and process requirements for all major fertilizer processes including ammonia, urea, phosphates, potassium products and many others. Environmental considerations are addressed clearly. Equally important, the manual includes chapters on fertilizer use, production and distribution economics, raw materials, and the status of the fertilizer industry with demand-supply projections. Professionals involved with any phase of fertilizer production, use, marketing, or distribution will find this book valuable.

Download or read book Introduction To Heterogeneous Catalysis written by Roel Prins and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catalysis literature can be difficult to read if there is not a sufficient understanding of the underlying connections between the chemical, materials and engineering aspects of catalysis. As a result, many students lack the depth of knowledge to effectively understand the topic.Introduction to Heterogeneous Catalysis solves this issue by presenting not only the basic concepts of catalysis but also, right from the beginning, integrating the chemical, materials and engineering aspects of catalysis in examples taken directly from industry.Aimed at master's and PhD students with a limited background in chemistry, this book provides a thorough introduction to the principles behind catalysis that will enable readers to understand the concepts and analyse the literature necessary for its study.

Download or read book Past and Present in DeNOx Catalysis From Molecular Modelling to Chemical Engineering written by Pascal Granger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-12-15 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an overview of the state of the art in the field of DeNOx catalysis in order to focus novel orientations, new technological developments, from laboratory to industrial scale. A particular attention has been paid towards the implementation of catalytic processes for minimising NOx emissions either from stationary or mobile sources under lean condition to meet future standard regulations of NOx emissions. In the first part of this book, critical aspects reported in the literature which usually make difficult the achievement of efficient catalytic technologies in those conditions are summarised and analysed in order two separate new perspectives. The second part deals with fundamental aspects at molecular level. A better understanding of the reactions involved under unsteady-state conditions is probably a pre-requisite step for improving the performances of the actual processes or developing original ones. The development of powerful in situ spectroscopic techniques is of fundamental interest for kinetic modelling. Correlations between spectroscopic and kinetic data with those obtained from theoretical calculations are reported. Some illustrations emphasise the fact that these comparisons may help in determining the nature of the catalytic active sites and building predictive tools for simulations under running conditions. The latter part of this book will be illustrated by different practical approaches covering various aspects related to the catalysts preparation and the development of alternative technologies which include industrial considerations.- New technological developments for investigating catalytic reactions in transient conditions (in situ and operando spectroscopic techniques)- Concerted approaches in DeNOx catalysis - How academic aspects (kinetic, in situ spectroscopic measurements) can provide useful information for practical applications- Comparison of different approaches provided by academic and industrial partners
Download or read book Chemical Technology written by F. A. Henglein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 917 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Technology is based on lectures the author gave at the Technische Hochschule of Karlsruhe and at the University of Freiburg. Part 1 of this book deals with chemical technology and describes subjects dealing with apparatus, unit operations, and chemical economics. The text reviews industrial chemical reactions, raw materials preparation for reaction, thermal and catalytic processes, and a history of chemical technology. This part also addresses transportation, storage of raw materials, and the design and construction of a chemical factory. Part 2 concerns special chemical technology, including topics such as raw material upgrading; processing of products in the chemical industry; and unit processes application toward consumer goods production. This part reviews materials sourcing from animals, minerals, and vegetables, such as processing of products from living organisms, the recovery of sugar, starch, and other carbohydrates. The book also reviews products of the chemical industry including low-molecular weight consumer goods, detergents, aromas, explosives, plastics, elastomers, synthetic leather, textile, and some building materials. Chemistry students, chemical and process technology students, and mechanical engineering students with interest in chemistry will find this book valuable.
