Book Complete Book of Urban Combatives

Download or read book Complete Book of Urban Combatives written by Lee Morrison and published by Paladin Press. This book was released on 2015-02-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Complete Book of Urban Combatives is based on what Lee Morrison teaches in his Urban Combatives (UC) curriculum. Morrison formed UC after 22 years of researching various Asian and Western methods of combat, incorporating the teachings of W.E. Fairbairn and E.A. Sykes, Charles Nelson, Geoff Thompson, Bob Kasper, and Kelly McCann, to name just a few. Morrison's reality-based UC is neither a sport nor an art. It is designed to counter street violence. Having been in his share of real blood-and-snot fights, first as a somewhat misguided youth and later as a doorman at pubs and nightclubs, Morrison knows that 30 seconds on the street is worth three years in the dojo any day of the week. His hard-earned experience also taught him that no one system has all the answers, necessitating that you keep an open mind and stay on the cutting edge of combatives. At UC, the essence of good self-protection is threefold: Master a few well-honed personal security concepts. Add a realistic understanding of your enemy. Gain an understanding of fear and how you will react under pressure. In this book, Morrison includes attribute-developing drills to help you develop these and other key combatives principles, as well as the combative mentality that must accompany every aspect of your training. The goal is to provide you with a functional game plan that can be tapered to your specific needs, whether for personal protection, or for law enforcement, military, or executive-protection duties.

Book excerpt: Written by the Co-Chairman of the Urban Survival and Preparedness Institute (USPI), the USPI URBAN SELF DEFENSE MANUAL is the complete guide to survival in an urban environment. Wherein Woodland Survival - also known as Rural Survival - is concerned with SHTF ("S**t Hits The Fan") events, Urban Survival is concerned with day-to-day survival. We need Urban Survival and Preparedness EVERY day. We only need Woodland Survival when all things have fallen apart AND we are able to make it to the forest and live off the land like Robinson Crusoe. The modern, URBAN environment is rife with dangers. Crime, violence, natural disasters, wars and police terrorism are real life possibilities for which few people are prepared. The home is no longer a place of sanctuary and armored, heavily armed, militarized police have been conditioned to see people of Afrikan descent NOT as citizens to protect and to serve, but as the enemy. The USPI URBAN SELF DEFENSE MANUAL offers readers simple, safe, and practical advice on how to prepare for, and react to, dozens of life threatening situations. Whether you are caught in the city during a major earthquake or experiencing police terrorism in your neighborhood, it is always important to be prepared, not just with equipment, but with the knowledge how to survive any dire situation. The USPI URBAN SELF DEFENSE MANUAL equips us with that knowledge.

Book Her Own Hero

Download or read book Her Own Hero written by Wendy L Rouse and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2017-08-08 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surprising roots of the self-defense movement and the history of women’s empowerment. At the turn of the twentieth century, women famously organized to demand greater social and political freedoms like gaining the right to vote. However, few realize that the Progressive Era also witnessed the birth of the women’s self-defense movement. It is nearly impossible in today’s day and age to imagine a world without the concept of women’s self defense. Some women were inspired to take up boxing and jiu-jitsu for very personal reasons that ranged from protecting themselves from attacks by strangers on the street to rejecting gendered notions about feminine weakness and empowering themselves as their own protectors. Women’s training in self defense was both a reflection of and a response to the broader cultural issues of the time, including the women’s rights movement and the campaign for the vote. Perhaps more importantly, the discussion surrounding women’s self-defense revealed powerful myths about the source of violence against women and opened up conversations about the less visible violence that many women faced in their own homes. Through self-defense training, women debunked patriarchal myths about inherent feminine weakness, creating a new image of women as powerful and self-reliant. Whether or not women consciously pursued self-defense for these reasons, their actions embodied feminist politics. Although their individual motivations may have varied, their collective action echoed through the twentieth century, demanding emancipation from the constrictions that prevented women from exercising their full rights as citizens and human beings. This book is a fascinating and comprehensive introduction to one of the most important women’s issues of all time. This book will provoke good debate and offer distinct responses and solutions.

Book excerpt: John “Lofty” Wiseman is the author of the bestselling SAS Survival Handbook, the definitive guide to survival in the wild from Britain’s Special Air Service. Now he has compiled the complete guide to surviving among crowds of people, the mazes of office buildings, the dangers of an unfeeling city—put simply, how to stay safe in the urban jungle. Thousands of preventable fatalities occur in the home every year— more than on the roads, more than in the great outdoors. Household chemicals, electricity, cooking knives, and rodent poisons—in the wrong hands and with improper usage, these day-to-day resources bring danger to your home. Add to this the risks of moving through city streets (the threat of rape, muggings, and gang violence) and the menace of natural disasters (floods, earthquakes, blizzards) that cannot be avoided. Every day serves as a constant reminder: The world is truly a frightening place. The SAS Urban Survival Guide advises readers to think practically about urban environments and offers tips and instructions on how to avoid hazards wherever one goes. Download or read book Urban Survivalist Guide written by Max E. Stout and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-12-26 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It seems every time you turn on the news these days there are more and more victims particularly women and young girls of violent crimes and sexual assaults, and perhaps if more women took self-defense training with a certified instructor of a recognized self-defense system or martial arts school. Then there would be for less incidences of assault where the reported victims are women. Women are typically assaulted and/or chosen as the victim of a crime because they are viewed as the "weaker sex" this is by no means true. Although scientifically speaking. It has been proven that there is a 7 to 3 strength ratio difference between men and women. What that means is if you took a man and a woman that were relatively the same fitness level. As far as health, size and weight are concerned, the man is still going to be 2 1/2 times stronger than the women on average. This means that a woman might have to use a little bit more finesse in a self-defense situation and not attack head on and try to match their attacker blow for blow because the objective is not to get into a fight is to stop your assailant create distance between yourself and your attacker and retreat to a safer location where you can report the incident to the proper authorities and receive medical attention if necessary.
