Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Talking to the Gods explores the linkages between the imaginative literature and the occult beliefs and practices of four writers who were members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. William Butler Yeats, Arthur Machen, Algernon Blackwood, and Dion Fortune were all members of the occult organization for various periods from 1890 to 1930. Yeats, of course, is both a canonical and well-loved poet. Machen is revered as a master of the weird tale. Blackwood's work dealing with the supernatural was popular during the first half of the twentieth century and has been influential in the development of the fantasy genre. Fortune's books are acknowledged as harbingers of trends in second-wave feminist spirituality. Susan Johnston Graf examines practices, beliefs, and ideas engendered within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and demonstrates how these are manifest in each author's work, including Yeats's major theoretical work, A Vision.

Download or read book Unveiling Sophia written by Anne Elizabeth Taylor and published by Chiron Publications. This book was released on 2021-05-01 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eternal feminine wisdom synchronizes the human heartbeat with the heartbeat of the universe. The Dalai Lama famously proclaimed that Western Women can save the world. But many modern women (and men) are painfully dissociated from Sophia, their inner spring of feminine wisdom and the primal source of their power and nurturance. Western women from around the globe have deep archetypal roots that have lain dormant after millennia of patriarchal control. Sophia awaits collective rebirth and her portal for rebirth is through the heart. Sophia, who the ancient Greeks regarded as the goddess of wisdom, represents a threshold through which we can access the deep reserves of archetypal wisdom veiled within our hearts. “The eternal feminine hithers us on” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust II To reveal this wisdom, we must open ourselves to methods beyond logos, the masculine principle of logic and structure that underlies the scientific approaches characteristic of our “enlightened” age. Paradoxically, as we begin to lift Sophia’s veil, we encounter scientific profundity, proving that masculine and feminine are not fundamentally at odds. Sophia does not replace logos but instead offers a balancing perspective, a wisdom beyond sense perceptions. Through Sophia, the wisdom of the heart accelerates the evolution of humanity from one-sided logos to incorporate new forms of awareness —and through our collective evolution we also heal the soul of the world, anima mundi.

Download or read book Not My People written by David Ian Starling and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a survey of recent approaches to the study of Paul's use of Scripture, the four main chapters explore the use of Isa. 54:1 in Gal. 4:27, the catena of scriptural texts in 2 Cor. 6:16-18, Hos. 1:10 and 2:23 in Rom. 9:25-26 and Isa. 57:19 in Eph. 2:17. In each case, the ancienwriter seeks to place the letter in its historical context and rhetorical situation, identify the significance of any conflations or modifications that have taken place in the citation process, analyse the citation's function within its immediate context, compare its use by Paul with the various ways in which the text is interpreted and appropriated by other Second Temple writers, and evaluate the main proposals offered as explanations for the riddle posed by the citation. That done, he offers his own account of the hermeneutic at work, based on an analysis of the explicit and implicit hermeneutical pointers through which the letter guides its readers in their appropriation of Scripture. This book compares the hermeneutical approaches of the four letters and draws conclusionsconcerning the interplay of continuity and discontinuity between Scripture and gospel in Paul's letters and the relationship between grace and Gentile inclusion in his theology.

Book Revealing the Holy Spirit in Humans

Download or read book Revealing the Holy Spirit in Humans written by Jacob Wilson Chikuhwa and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-08-24 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the transmission of the biblical text is definitely an empirical subject, for it has left in its trail textual evidence, much of it available for research and evaluation. Thanks to the great advances in philology in general, the discipline of biblical philology has been released from the bonds of religious polemics and has become an important tool for straightforward, literal interpretation, with Protestant researchers leading the way. Revealing the Holy Spirit in Humans: Stories from the Bible is meant to be a continued adherence to the popular historical interpretation of the sanctity of the Holy Spirit in particular and not as a disregard for the available textual evidence in the contemporary Christian doctrine. The theme in the book is to convey that Jesus gave the Holy Spirit as a compensation for his absence, to perform the functions to advance our goals, which he would have done if he had remained personally with us. An exploration has been made of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives starting with the church, the congregation and the composition of its human talents, and the personalities and the circumstances in which we find ourselves. In the process, I have been compelled to apply imaginative emendation to the question of life after death. This book is intended to provide a foundation for Bible study by groups and persons interested in Christianity.

Book At the Threshold of Liquid Geology

Download or read book At the Threshold of Liquid Geology written by Eric W. Bragg and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-09-15 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This modern collection of surrealist prose-poems was inspired by the improvisational method of automatic writing, popularized by the International Surrealist Movement. From one brain to another without any literary rules or standards, the words in these automatic writings are not just words, but rays of subconscious illumination that peel away the various layers of the “civilized,” western psyche, one by one. Full of bizarre transformations and dark, irrationally motivated patterns of erotic thought, these writings will seduce the reader into nothing less than a sublime overload and transgressive derangement of the senses. While a must-read for the poetically daring and the adventurous, this book is not recommended for those who seek peaceful numbness and safety!
