Book Unit Leader Assessments of a Joint Readiness Training Center Rotation

Download or read book Unit Leader Assessments of a Joint Readiness Training Center Rotation written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For this research, leaders from a battalion that had completed a rotation through the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) 3 weeks earlier were given a questionnaire and/or were interviewed. They responded that training at the JRTC was realistic and somewhat stressful and that JRTC after-action reviews were very useful. The capabilities most important for platoon leaders at the JRTC were technical and tactical proficiency, initiative, and decision making; those for company commanders were planning, decision making, and communication. Platoon cohesion correlated significantly with perceived platoon performance (r = .40). The leaders provided many suggestions on how to train for a JRTC rotation. (cp).

Book The Joint Readiness Training Center s Training and Evaluation Outline Data Base Preliminary Assessment

Download or read book The Joint Readiness Training Center s Training and Evaluation Outline Data Base Preliminary Assessment written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research was to determine the usefulness of Training and Evaluation Outline (T and EO) data from unit rotations at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) as a means of determining unit performance. Infantry platoons and companies from five unit rotations were examined. Analyses included performance comparisons of both platoons and companies and a detailed examination of four selected tasks. Unexpected patterns in the data raised questions about the accuracy of the ratings (e.g., possible rater bias). Several critical errors in the data base were also discovered. These errors make the data unsuitable for use in determining training focus. The author concluded that changes in the data base are needed before it can be used to document unit performance. Through joint efforts by researchers and observer/controllers, the data collection effort could be improved. Additionally, followup efforts must take place to reduce possible rater biases and to ensure data entry quality control.

Book Evaluating a Job Aid for Actions on Contact at the Joint Readiness Training Center

Download or read book Evaluating a Job Aid for Actions on Contact at the Joint Readiness Training Center written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The present investigation sought to quantify small unit practices during actions on contact at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) and to determine the extent to which a job performance aid, the Warrior Leader's Guide for Actions on Contact, might improve unit performance. The Actions on Contact Checklist, a tool developed especially for the investigation, was used by JRTC's trainer/mentors to measure unit performance. Over the course of nine unit rotations at JRTC, 754 checklists were collected and analyzed. Some support for the efficacy of the Warrior Leader's Guide to positively influence unit performance was found, primarily in the consolidation and reorganization phase of operations. Unit strengths and weaknesses in actions on contact were identified. On all nine measures of attack execution, units that rehearsed prior to an operation performed significantly better than units that did not rehearse."--DTIC.

Book America s First Battles 1776 1965

Download or read book America s First Battles 1776 1965 written by Charles E. Heller and published by University Press of Kansas. This book was released on 1986-12-16 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, a collection of eleven original essays by many of the foremost U.S. military historians, focuses on the transition of the Army from parade ground to battleground in each of nine wars the United States has fought. Through careful analysis of organization, training, and tactical doctrine, each essay seeks to explain the strengths and weaknesses evidenced by the outcome of the first significant engagement or campaign of the war. The concluding essay sets out to synthesize the findings and to discover whether or not American first battles manifest a characteristic "rhythm." America's First Battles provides a novel and intellectually challenging view of how America has prepared for war and how operations and tactics have changed over time. The thrust of the book--the emphasis on operational history--is at the forefront of scholarly activity in military history.

Book Improving Troop Leading Procedures at the Joint Readiness Training Center

Download or read book Improving Troop Leading Procedures at the Joint Readiness Training Center written by Kenneth Lamar Evans and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present investigation sought to measure the quality of troop leading procedures (TLPs) being performed at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) and to determine the extent to which a job performance aid, the TLPs Guide, might improve the TLPs performance of leaders there. TLPs performance was measured by observer/controllers using the TLPs Checklist, a tool developed specifically for the investigation. Over the course of eight unit rotations at JRTC, 723 checklists were collected and analyzed. On 34 of 39 performance measures, leaders who had access to a TLPs Guide during their missions were found to conduct better TLPs than leaders who did not have access to the Guide. Group differences were found to be statistically significant on 8 of the measures obtained. The efficacy of the TLPs Guide was most apparent when leaders performed the third step in the TLPs process, making a tentative plan.

Book Empirical Assessment in IHL Education and Training

Download or read book Empirical Assessment in IHL Education and Training written by Jody M. Prescott and published by Anthem Press. This book was released on 2021-08-02 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with People on War, the ICRC’s ground-breaking global survey in 1999 of the international public’s perceptions and attitudes towards IHL, the book takes a historical approach in examining case studies of the use of empirical assessment in IHL training over the last twenty years. The case studies include the evolution of the ICRC’s approach to IHL training, the views on IHL of newly promoted U.S. Army and Marine Corps majors in the aftermath of 9/11, mental health surveys of U.S. troops deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq that asked searching questions regarding IHL compliance, the remarkably successful battlefield ethics training program that was developed in Iraq to reverse those surveys’ results, and work done with Swiss Military Academy officers, new Malian soldiers, a U.S. Army battalion in Germany, and university students in Ireland and Japan using war video games as an IHL instructional tool. The use of empirical assessment is occurring in the context of evolution in the approach to IHL training, one that increasingly recognizes the vital role played by military leaders in developing a values-oriented culture of compliance with the soldiers in their units.

Book The First 100 Days of Platoon Leadership Handbook Lessons and Best Practices

Download or read book The First 100 Days of Platoon Leadership Handbook Lessons and Best Practices written by U. S. Army and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-03 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The platoon leader and platoon sergeant are two of the most important leaders in the U.S. Army. The way platoon leaders and sergeants work together as a team can cause the success or failure of companies, battalions, brigades, and divisions. They represent the leading edge of leadership on and off the battlefield. On the battlefield, platoon leaders and sergeants build their platoons, empower squad leaders, integrate outside elements, and use troop-leading procedures to plan and lead. Off the battlefield, platoon leaders and sergeants prepare their platoon for combat through tough training. The platoon leader and platoon sergeant's ability to coach, teach, and mentor their Soldiers leads directly to the readiness of our formations. World-wide, platoon leaders and sergeants are personally leading the U.S. Army at the lowest level. This handbook is a guide for new leaders to help prepare them for a critical crucible of leadership that will determine the U.S. Army's ability to fight and win our country's wars.
