Download or read book The Iranian Space Endeavor written by Parviz Tarikhi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-19 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a detailed look at the events and policies surrounding the Iranian space endeavor. For those who see the trend of progress and movement of the Iranian space endeavor from the outside, it can be difficult to understand what goes on behind the scenes. However, for one who observes these events firsthand, they take on a very different meaning. In this book, the author brings new and different profiles of Iran’s space endeavor to light. Iran claims to be the ninth leading country in the world capable of manufacturing satellites and launching them, plans to land an astronaut on the Moon within a decade, and says its own president plans to be the first Iranian astronaut to travel into space. The author explains in this book that not all of these claims are quite as they seem. In addition to technical explanations, the book also includes historical, legal, social and cultural aspects of Iran’s space program as well. It is the author’s goal to create a tangible feeling of Iran’s space endeavor for the readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines and proposes a legal framework for the creation of a regional space agency for Latin America especially in regard of pivotal aspects such as institutional structures, transfer of competences and cooperation agreements facilitating Latin America to act with one voice on the international space stage. It demonstrates how the European Space Agency (ESA), as regional space agency for Europe and its experiences for more than 50 years, may serves as model for such a regional forum in Latin America in view of required structures and rules to enable common peaceful space activities on regional level for the development of Latin American states and for the benefit of their societies.

Download or read book Understanding the Universe written by Richard M. West and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is hardly any field of human endeavour which is more fundamental than the study of our surroundings. We have always wanted to learn what was behind our horizon, beyond the next mountain, on the other side of the ocean, on the next planet, at the end of the Universe. We have come a long way since our early ancestors gazed upon the sky in amazement. Giant optical and radio telescopes now allow us to "see" the early epochs of the Universe, revealing phenomena beyond our comprehension. Spacecrafts with on-board astronomical instrumentation circle the Earth and fly to the limits of the Solar System, providing invaluable new information about nearby and distant objects. Many people have the intuitive feeling that it is "easier and better" to study the Universe from above the Earth's atmosphere. However, this is only partially true in as much as electromagnetic radiation of certain wavelengths (e.g. X-rays) does not penetrate the atmosphere and can only be studied from balloons and space crafts • The advent of space-borne astronomy has not made ground-based observations obsolete - on the contrary, it is only thanks to the combination of the two that we have now a vastly more comprehensive picture of the Universe than just a few decades ago.
