Book Phoolbasan Yadav

Download or read book Phoolbasan Yadav written by and published by Arvind Yadav. This book was released on 2020-06-18 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phoolbasan: Fearless, Fierce, and Unfazed Born to Jhadiram and Sumitra, in a small village in Chhattisgarh, Phoolbasan Yadav led a life of great adversity. Like several other families in the Chhuria tehsil, her family was crushed under the debilitating weight of poverty. The siblings and their parents often went hungry- affording even two meals a day was a luxury for them. Phoolbasan rose from these circumstances and became a symbol of resilience not just for her village, but for women across the country. Her story is a stunning example of how one can battle socio-economic factors and emerge victorious. For Phoolbasan, it was always clear that success and well-being cannot be achieved alone. We are stronger together. Right from the beginning, her life was littered with examples of how helping one another led to happiness for all. As a child, she was unable to access an education, as her parents could not even dream of affording the school fee, uniforms, and books and so on. In fact, her father was also opposed to her studying as she was a girl. It was only through financial help from the friendly customers who frequented her parents’ tea stall, that Phoolbasan was able to receive primary education. Her spirit was recognized by those around her, and they were moved to help her. Despite excelling at school, she was not able to progress to secondary education as yet another social evil entangled her- child marriage. In fact, the financial condition of her new household was even worse. Having given birth to her first child at the age of fourteen, she was unable to feed her children. Phoolbasan took it upon herself to not only escape this cycle of poverty but to also empower other women to do the same. She began speaking to the women around her, and organized small self-help groups. Her knowledge and presence of mind led to the entire village making better spending and saving decisions. Though the women were initially opposed by the orthodox villagers, and even the panchayat, they eventually proved to everyone that they were on the right path. Phoolbasan too had to undergo domestic violence at the hands of her husband, who could not comprehend that he was married to a path breaking woman. He supported her later, once he could look beyond his prejudices. Phoolbasan and her Maa Bamleshwari Svayam Sahayta Samiti empowered many villages. They gradually expanded beyond the scope of household finances. They not only spread awareness on the importance of education for children, and bore the expenses of hundreds of poor students, but also organized classes for women who had not had access to schooling during their childhood. Amongst other things, the group held blood donation camps, cleanliness drives, anti-addiction campaigns, and a movement against open defecation. The women even outperformed the men of their village in bidding for the local bazaar. In that scenario, they were faced with physical and verbal threats, and had to rise to the occasion, proving the strength of united groups of women. This is just one example from the life of Phoobasan Yadav, a woman who refused to be held back by social norms.

This book helps readers understand how God’s grace works in the life of the believer, illuminating the practical steps needed for an authentic relationship with God. • Pages : 334 pages

Download or read book Ink written by Ted Bishop and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rich and imaginative discovery of how ink has shaped culture and why it is here to stay. Ink is so much a part of daily life that we take it for granted, yet its invention was as significant as the wheel. Ink not only recorded culture, it bought political power, divided peoples, and led to murderous rivalries. Ancient letters on a page were revered as divine light, and precious ink recipes were held secret for centuries. And, when it first hit markets not so long ago, the excitement over the disposable ballpoint pen equalled that for a new smartphone—with similar complaints to the manufacturers. Curious about its impact on culture, literature, and the course of history, Ted Bishop sets out to explore the story of ink. From Budapest to Buenos Aires, he traces the lives of the innovators who created the ballpoint pen—revolutionary technology that still requires exact engineering today. Bishop visits a ranch in Utah to meet a master ink-maker who relishes igniting linseed oil to make traditional printers' ink. In China, he learns that ink can be an exquisite object, the subject of poetry, and a means of strengthening (or straining) family bonds. And in the Middle East, he sees the world's oldest Qur'an, stained with the blood of the caliph who was assassinated while reading it. An inquisitive and personal tour around the world, Ink asks us to look more closely at something we see so often that we don't see it at all.

Book Thanks But This Isn t for Us

Download or read book Thanks But This Isn t for Us written by Jessica Page Morrell and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2009-08-20 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fun, practical guide that reveals the essentials of good fiction and memoir writing by exposing the most common mistakes literary writers make. All great works of fiction and memoir are unique-but most bad novels, stories, and memoirs have a lot in common. From clunky dialogue to poorly sketchedout characters, sagging pacing to exaggerated prose, these beginners' mistakes drive any agent or editor to their stock rejection letter, telling the aspiring writer "Thanks, but this isn't for us," and leaving many to wonder what exactly it is that they're doing wrong. Veteran writing coach, developmental editor, and writing instructor Jessica Page Morrell will fill in the gaps in every rejection letter you've ever received. In Thanks, But This Isn't for Us, Morrell uses her years of experience to isolate the specific errors beginners make, including the pitfalls of unrealistic dialogue, failing to "show, not tell," and over-the-top plot twists. These are just a few of the problems that keep writers from breaking through with their work. Sympathetic and humane, but pulling no punches, Thanks, But This Isn't for Us shows writers precisely where they've gone wrong and how to get on the right track. In sixteen to-the-point chapters, with checklists, exercises, takeaway tips, and a glossary, Morrell helps readers transcend these mistakes so that they don't have to learn the hard way: with another rejection letter.

This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The next full-moon night is coming, and I really don't want to be a rogue. I need someone to help me, by having sex with me!" The Alpha murmured desperately. *** Heller was an Alpha, and he already had a mate that he loved, Mira, but now he was desperately in need of a new one. Mira was in the hospital, in a coma for a year, but that was not the main reason for Heller to find a new mate. The main reason was more complicated-he was supposed to have sex with his new and fated mate during the next full moon and quieten and placate his wolf, to make him less disturbing and destructive, and most importantly, stop himself from turning to a rogue. On that rainy Monday morning, Heller met his fated mate, Leah. "It was ridiculous that the Moon Goddess would choose someone like her to be my mate! She didn't even know she got werewolf blood running in her veins! She just thought she was a damn human!" But for Leah, wasn't this whole thing more ridiculous? Could she end up being Heller's Luna? Or just his sex tool?

Book excerpt: This was the first time I felt as involved in film as in working in theatre. My immersion in Parade’s End from the writing to the finishing touches took up the time I might have given to writing my own play but, perhaps to an unwarranted degree, I think of this Parade’s End as mine, such was the illusion of proprietorship over Ford’s characters and story. —Tom Stoppard, from the Introduction Tom Stoppard’s BBC / HBO dramatization of Ford Madox Ford’s masterwork takes a prominent place in the ranks of his oeuvre. Parade's End is the reinvention of a masterwork of modernist English literature produced by one of the most critically acclaimed and respected writers working today. Parade’s End is the story of Christopher Tietjens, the “last Tory,” his beautiful, disconcerting wife Sylvia, and the virginal young suffragette Valentine Wannop: an upper class love triangle before and during the Great War. Parade's End is a three-part drama, directed by the BAFTA-winning Susanna White, and featuring internationally renowned actors including Benedict Cumberbatch, Rebecca Hall, and Adelaide Clemens. This edition includes bonus scenes which were not broadcast, an introductory essay by Stoppard, and a selection of stills from the production as well as photographs taken on location.
