Book excerpt: Cosmetics are a fast-growing segment in the global personal care industry and the application of nanocosmeceuticals are on the rise. Conventional cosmetics greatly lack specific delivery systems, prolong effects and relatively heavy doses may be necessary. One of the common complaints of consumers is rather short-term activity of cosmetics, especially in face care products.Nanocosmeceuticals, having more advanced nutrient delivery mechanisms, carry more task specific nutrients to the skin deep where it can be metabolized and used to nourish cells. It can help to increase the aesthetic appeal of a product influencing the purchase decision of a consumer. Nanocosmeceuticals: Innovation, Application and Safety highlights the trends and applications of nanotechnology in cosmeceuticals for more advance and task specific nutrients delivery and long term effects of personal care products using liposome, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, transferosomes, niosomes, phytosomes, nanoemulsions, silver nanoparticles, chitin nanofibrils etc. It also provides the detailed information on regulatory laws, safety and marketing aspects of cosmeceuticals. This book offers an indispensable guide for professors, researchers, students, formulation chemists as well as formulation scientists in academia and industry; beauticians and decision-makers in consumer organizations. - First book on 'Nanocosmeceuticals' - Serves as a valuable resource of scientific innovations, novel applications, safety and regulations of Nanocosmeceuticals - Offers an updated and highly structured reference material for students, researchers, professors, formulation chemists and scientists

Book The cost of inaction

Download or read book The cost of inaction written by Gretta Goldenman and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2019-03-17 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PFAS (per and polyfluoroalkylsubstances) are known to be extremely difficult to degrade in the environment and to be bioaccumulative and toxic. Exposure to PFAS is suspected to increase the risk of adverse health effects, such as impacts on the thyroid gland, the liver, fat metabolism and the immune system. This study estimates the socioeconomic costs that may result from impacts on human health and the environment from the use of PFAS. Better awareness of the costs and problems associated with PFAS exposure will assist decision-makers and the general public to make more efficient and timely risk management decisions. Findings indicate that the costs are substantial, with annual health-related costs estimated to 2.8 – 4.6 billion EUR for the Nordic countries and 52 – 84 billion EUR for all EEA countries. Overall non-health costs are estimated at 46 million – 11 billion EUR for the Nordic countries.Upon request the excel spreadsheets used for the monetarisation and valuation in this report can also be provided along with a guidance on how to use the estimation of costs for value transfer. Please contact any of the consultants or members of the steering group from the Swedish Chemicals Agency or the Danish Environmental Protection Agency if you are interested in receiving these excel spreadsheets.

Book Nanocosmetics

Download or read book Nanocosmetics written by Arun Nanda and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-05-06 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanotechnology is key to the design and manufacture of the new generation of cosmetics. Nanotechnology can enhance the performance and properties of cosmetics, including colour, transparency, solubility, texture, and durability. Sunscreen products, such as UV nano-filters, nano-TiO2 and nano-ZnO particles, can offer an advantage over their traditional counterparts due to their broad UV-protection and non-cutaneous side effects. For perfumes, nano-droplets can be found in cosmetic products including Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum. Nanomaterials can also be used in cosmetics as transdermal drug delivery systems. By using smart nanocontainers, active compounds such as vitamins, antioxidants, nutrients, and anti-inflammatory, anti-infective agents, can be delivered effectively. These smart nanocontainers are typically related with the smart releasing property for their embedded active substances. These smart releases could be obtained by using the smart coatings as their outer nano-shells. These nano-shells could prevent the direct contact between these active agents and the adjacent local environments. Nanocosmetics: Fundamentals, Applications and Toxicity explores the formulation design concepts and emerging applications of nanocosmetics. The book also focuses on the mitigation or prevention of their potential nanotoxicity, potential global regulatory challenges, and the technical challenges of mass implementation. It is an important reference source for materials scientists and pharmaceutical scientists looking to further their understanding of how nanotechnology is being used for the new generation of cosmetics. - Outlines the major fabrication and formulation design concepts of nanoscale products for cosmetic applications - Explores how nanomaterials can safely be used for various applications in cosmetic products - Assesses the major challenges of using nanomaterials for cosmetic applications on a large scale
