Download or read book Undrugged Sleep written by Dr. Lori Arnold PharmD and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sleepless in America is not a Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks movie. This is a real-life drama fueled by the performance anxiety that keeps you up all night worrying about being up all night. If you battle nightly dream stealers, you are one of fifty to seventy million American adults with chronic sleep disorders. We live in a take a pill and go to sleep era. Like Pavlovs dogs, insomnia-plagued Americans have been trained to pop a pill to reap a sleep reward, expecting to immediately fall asleep and stay asleep, with little or no effort. The path of least resistance offers an easy way out rather than focusing on the root cause of the insomnia. What do you hope to achieve by taking a sleeping pill? You hope to achieve a blissful state of restful and rejuvenating sleep, allowing you to then work better, think better, and function better the next day. You hope that prescription sleep aids will be a temporary fix and will not result in long-term use or dependence. Expectations and actual experiences may vastly differ, often yielding more disappointing results than anticipated. Your health choices are being unfairly influenced by clever pharmaceutical marketing propaganda, resulting in a destructive drug path plagued with dangerous side effects, interactions, drug-induced diseases, nutrient depletions, and even addiction. If sleeping pills are the problem, Undrugged Sleep is the solution that will help you embark on a personal healing journey. Becoming more aware of sleep drugs health-impairing issues will help motivate you to remove the drug insult, correct the root cause, and ultimately replace the drug with safer natural solutions. A functional medicine approach offers insomnia drug alternatives, combining sleep hygiene, nutrition, and nutraceuticals. No more Band-Aid approaches to healing; Undrugged Sleep is a true drug-free solution that will restore rejuvenating rest and have you sleeping like a baby in no time.

Download or read book Marihuana and Medicine written by Gabriel G. Nahas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-04-05 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leading physicians and scientists from around the world critically examine the pharmacological and molecular basis of the therapeutic properties of marihuana and its active ingredient, THC. They detail the broad array of marihuana's effects on brain function, the immune system, male and female reproductive functions, and cardiac and pulmonary functions, as well as evaluate its clinical applications in psychiatry, glaucoma, pain management, cancer chemotherapy, and AIDS treatment. Their studies indicate that marihuana persistently impairs the brain and reproductive function, and that marihuana smoke is more toxic and damaging to the lung than tobacco smoke. Marihuana and Medicine's reports of the latest findings on the pharmacological and molecular mechanisms of marihuana and of its clinical manifestations will be essential reading for physicians, psychiatrists, pharmacologists, health-care professionals, policy makers, public health officials, and attorneys.

Researchers using one technique are provided with an overview of the other available methods, and clinicians who wish to evaluate drug abuse research reports can gain the necessary background from this volume. Although emphasis is placed on the methodological aspects of assessing drug reinforcement, some of the scientific conclusions derived from using these techniques are also presented. This edited collection offers a lasting framework for interpreting the results of current experimental findings.
Download or read book The Expression of Knowledge written by Robert L. Isaacson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What we know about the world and its opportunities limits what we do. If we do not know that there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, we will not follow it. If we do not know that a desert cactus contains water, we will not cut into it for sustenance. Often, however, we do know things about the world and yet the knowledge does not seem to be reflected in behavior. Explaining this fact simply in terms of inadequate motivation for expression or incomplete memory for the important in formation does not really add much to our understanding. The ex pression of knowledge can be interrupted in very special ways by a variety of more specific conditions-fatigue, sources of forgetting that may include failure of memory retrieval, emotion, and various dysfunc tions of brain and body systems-that are not satisfactorily incorporated by any current theories of motivation or memory. Also, a dissociation between knowledge and its expression can take the form of applying knowledge without apparent awareness of this action, a phenomenon that requires complicated assumptions for explanation in terms of either motivation or memory. Dissociations between knowledge and action may be striking. After driving home on a familiar route we may not be able to report whether the last three traffic lights were red or green; yet we must have re sponded appropriately to them.
