Book East Asia s Strategic Advantage in the Middle East

Download or read book East Asia s Strategic Advantage in the Middle East written by Shirzad Azad and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The modern trajectory of Middle Eastern–East Asian interactions has garnered very little scholarly attention and scrutiny. The two-way connection between both regions have witnessed a litany of activities and developments over the past several decades, but such dynamics are yet to be investigated sufficiently in tandem with their overall impacts on the world’s safety and well-being. Aiming to fill part of this acute research gap, East Asia’s Strategic Advantage in the Middle East concentrates primarily on different aspects of East Asia’s modern relationship with the Middle East by turning the spotlight on strategic advantages of East Asian countries in critical areas in the region. Over the past several years, there have been a slew of talks and debates about the formation of strategic ties between the East Asian states and their counterparts across the Middle East region. However, East Asia's advantage of strategic nature has been there for decades, shaping the contours of an increasingly multifaceted chain of interactions involving the two sides. The more other stakeholders , Western powers in particular, made serious attempts to secure their precious assets in the Middle East, the larger East Asia's strategic advantage in the region grew.

Book 50 Things to Know About Japanese Animation

Download or read book 50 Things to Know About Japanese Animation written by Sara Youngbar and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-06 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Japanese animation, in many ways, has been a major influence in my life. Since I was a toddler, anime always provided me with a sense of comfort. The crazy characters, the beautiful backgrounds, the engaging plots, and the wonderful music gives me so much joy. It is such a treat to be able to zone out and immerse yourself in the story. Anime is where I discovered some of the best stories I have ever watched. Maison Ikkoku is where I fell in love with the romantic comedy genre all over again. Inu-Yasha is what gave me the inspiration to pursue illustrating. Grave of the Fireflies showed me the devastating effects of war. Sailor Moon gave me confidence. As a longtime anime enthusiast, I will be explaining the Japanese animation medium to those who may be curious but have not given anime a try yet. Even if you consider yourself an "otaku" and think this book is not for you, I think you'll learn something new as well.

Download or read book Anime written by Rayna Denison and published by . This book was released on with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anime: A Critical Introduction maps the genres that have thrived within Japanese animation culture, and shows how a wide range of commentators have made sense of anime through discussions of its generic landscape. From the battling robots that define the mecha genre through to Studio Ghibli's dominant genre-brand of plucky shojo (young girl) characters, this book charts the rise of anime as a globally significant category of animation. It further thinks through the differences between anime's local and global genres: from the less-considered niches like nichijo-kei (everyday style anime) through to the global popularity of science fiction anime, this book tackles the tensions between the markets and audiences for anime texts. Anime is consequently understood in this book as a complex cultural phenomenon: not simply a "genre," but as an always shifting and changing set of texts. Its inherent changeability makes anime an ideal contender for global dissemination, as it can be easily re-edited, translated and then newly understood as it moves through the world's animation markets. As such, Anime: A Critical Introduction explores anime through a range of debates that have emerged around its key film texts, through discussions of animation and violence, through debates about the cyborg and through the differences between local and global understandings of anime products. Anime: A Critical Introduction uses these debates to frame a different kind of understanding of anime, one rooted in contexts, rather than just texts. In this way, Anime: A Critical Introduction works to create a space in which we can rethink the meanings of anime as it travels around the world.--Publisher website.

Book Eakins Revealed

Download or read book Eakins Revealed written by Henry Adams and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2005-05-01 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Eakins is widely considered one of the great American painters, an artist whose uncompromising realism helped move American art from the Victorian era into the modern age. He is also acclaimed as a paragon of integrity, one who stood up for his artistic beliefs even when they brought him personal and professional difficulty--as when he was fired from the Pennsylvania Academy of Art for removing a model's loincloth in a drawing class. Yet beneath the surface of Eakins's pictures is a sense of brooding unease and latent violence--a discomfort voiced by one of his sitters who said his portrait "decapitated" her. In Eakins Revealed, art historian Henry Adams examines the dark side of Eakins's life and work, in a startling new biography that will change our understanding of this American icon. Based on close study of Eakins's work and new research in the Bregler papers, a major collection never fully mined by scholars, this volume shows Eakins was not merely uncompromising, but harsh and brutal both in his personal life and in his painting. Adams uncovers the bitter personal feuds and family tragedies surrounding Eakins--his mother died insane and his niece committed suicide amid allegations that Eakins had seduced her--and documents the artist's tendency toward psychological abuse and sexual harassment of those around him. This provocative book not only unveils new facts about Eakins's life; more important, it makes sense, for the first time, of the enigmas of his work. Eakins Revealed promises to be a controversial biography that will attract readers inside and outside the art world, and fascinate anyone concerned with the mystery of artistic genius.

Download or read book The Anime Paradox written by Stevie Suan and published by Global Oriental. This book was released on 2013-05-16 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Founded on richly stylized expression, Anime has developed into an art with a high degree of sophistication that is comparable to that of the traditional theatrical forms of Noh, Bunraku, and Kabuki. By analyzing Anime through the lens of traditional Japanese theater, the patterns and practices in Anime can be mapped out. In The Anime Paradox, Stevie Suan utilizes this framework to reveal Anime’s distinct form, examining and delineating the particular formal qualities of Anime’s structure, conventions, aesthetics, and modes of viewing. However, the comparison works both ways—just as Japanese theater can give us analytical insights into Anime, Anime can enrich our understanding of Japanese classical theater.
