Book Understanding and Managing Cerebral Aneurysms

Download or read book Understanding and Managing Cerebral Aneurysms written by Xianli Lv and published by . This book was released on 2024-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed introduction to the characteristics of cerebral aneurysms and the current treatment methods. Cerebral aneurysms are not rare, and they have a high disability and mortality rate. Most patients are unaware that they have a cerebral aneurysm, with the most common being cerebral hemorrhage. The diagnosis and treatment of cerebral aneurysms have been ongoing for more than 100 years. We have achieved excellent results, but there are still many things that we do not know. An increasing number of unruptured cerebral aneurysms are accidentally discovered during neuroimaging examinations. The greatest risk of cerebral aneurysm is the risk of rupture. Due to the extremely high mortality rate, once these aneurysms are detected, systematic treatment is necessary. The earlier a patient is referred to a neurosurgeon or interventional neuroradiologist, the better the outcome will be compared to the patient experiencing rupture. The decision to treat is multifactorial.

Book New Trends in Cerebral Aneurysm Management

Download or read book New Trends in Cerebral Aneurysm Management written by Yasuhiro Yonekawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The management of cerebral aneurysms is still the subject of controversy in spite of recent dramatic advances in surgical techniques and neuro-intensive care. Currently, two main topics in this field have totally different aspects: 1. the management of unruptured cerebral aneurysms as a preventive medicine and 2. neurocrutical management of severe subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) after the rupture. These topics were discussed during the Swiss-Japanese Joint Conference in Zurich, Switzerland, in May 2001. Selected papers from this meeting are included in this volume presenting new clinical experiences in order to find out updated and proper ways to focus the treatment and providing updated information on neurocritical care aspects as well as endovascular and surgical treatment modalities carried out in daily practice in Zurich and Japan.

Book Neurosurgical Management of Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage

Download or read book Neurosurgical Management of Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage written by I.A. Langmoen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The small neck of the aneurysm afforded an easy surgical attack. An ordinary flat silver clip was placed over the sac and tightly compressed obliterated it completely. The clip was flush with the wall of the carotid artery. The sac, lateral to the silver clip, was then picked up with the forceps and thrombosed by the electocautery. Walter Dandy reporting his successful operation of a posterior communicating aneurysm on March 23, 1937. Walter Dandy's patient left the hospital in good health 2 weeks later, and from his report one may gain the impression that the operation was an easy task. Despite continuous developments during the following decades, it was not until the introduction of the operating microscope and microsurgical techniques that surgical treatment was generally accepted. During the microsurgical era surgical results have continued to improve due to diagnostical, neuroanaesthesi ological, and microsurgical refinements, and improved neurointensive care. Endovascular obliteration has become an important treatment alternative but this has not been included in this particular volume. The purpose of the present supplement of the ACTA NEUROCHIRURGICA is to review some of the elements in the neurosurgical management of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage that are important for a successful outcome. Professor Helge Nornes has been a major force in the development of new techniques and research strategies in this area for a number of years and has recently retired from the National Hospital in Oslo.

Book Consults in Obstetric Anesthesiology

Download or read book Consults in Obstetric Anesthesiology written by Suzanne K. W. Mankowitz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text addresses the need for a book specifically aimed at obstetric anesthesia and covers topics such as pulmonary, cardiac renal, hepatic, hematologic, neurologic, endocrine and other diseases. The real anesthetic challenge arises when patients present to Labor and Delivery with unusual or complicated medical problems and, in recent years, a few of the larger institutions have developed an Obstetric Anesthesiology Consultation Service to prepare for the management of these patients. While most pregnant women who present to Labor and Delivery require anesthetic intervention, they typically meet the anesthesiologist for the first time in labor. Since the majority of laboring women are healthy without significant comorbidities, this does not present much of a challenge to the anesthesiologist and the anesthetic management tends to be straight-forward with favorable outcomes. However, using this new model, the anesthesiologist has the opportunity to discuss the various treatment modalities and potentially suggest diagnostic testing to be performed prior to delivery, similar to the pre-operative testing that is done in other surgical environments.

Recent experience has demonstrated its utility in treating challenging or otherwise untreatable aneurysms, safely and efficaciously. The design of these devices requires learning radically different methods than those used in the deployment of other, non-braided stents. Flow Diversion of Cerebral Aneurysms by Min Park, Philipp Taussky, Felipe Albuquerque, and Cameron McDougall provides step-by-step guidance on utilization of flow diversion technology in clinical practice. Reflecting the combined experience and knowledge of pioneers in neurointerventional surgery, this comprehensive book fills a gap in available resources. Twenty-one chapters cover fundamentals to advanced concepts – historical perspective to future developments. Download or read book Intracranial Aneurysms written by Andrew J. Ringer and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-05-21 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intracranial aneurysm result from complex interactions between cerebrovascular anatomy, vascular injury, and adaptive remodeling of the arterial wall and represent a cerebrovascular disorder with the potential for substantial morbidity and mortality. Most intracranial aneurysms occur in the larger arteries near the skull base, in or around the circle of Willis, but variants may appear virtually anywhere in the cerebral vasculature. The aneurysm can leak or rupture, causing life-threatening bleeding, and is the most common cause of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage, the third most common form of stroke. Intracranial aneurysms affect about 1 in 10,000 people per year in the United States (approximately 27,000). Intracranial Aneurysms will address the natural history, biology, and basic management principles and treatment of aneurysms. The chapters also explore the unique features of each type or location of aneurysm while considering the medical, surgical, and endovascular options. Contributions are by members of the Endovascular Neurosurgery Research Group, a group of recognized expert neurosurgeons who specialize in cerebrovascular and endovascular management of aneurysms. Comprehensively covers the basic mechanisms, history, management and treatment of intracranial aneurysms Written for researchers, residents and clinical practitioners in clinical neuroscience, neurology and neurosurgery Contains contributions by expert neurosurgeons of the Endovascular Neurosurgery Research Group
