Book Uncertainty Analyses on Reference Values of Charpy Impact Test Specimens

Download or read book Uncertainty Analyses on Reference Values of Charpy Impact Test Specimens written by S. Takagi and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The uncertainties of reference values of specimens, which are used for the verification of the secondary standard Charpy impact test machine, are investigated. To evaluate the uncertainty of the reference values of specimens, the results of the direct verification of the machine and the repeatability of measurement are considered. The uncertainty components estimated from the direct verification are calculated multiplying the uncertainty of each item and corresponding sensitivity coefficient. The repeatability of measurement is estimated from the results of the routine check data of the standard machine. By combining these components, the overall uncertainties of reference specimens are presented at 30, 100, and 160 J levels of absorbed energy.

Download or read book Uncertainty in Reference Values for the Charpy V notch Verification Program written by JD. Splett and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a method for computing the combined standard uncertainty for reference values used in the Charpy machine verification program administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The technique is compliant with the ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement and models the between-machine bias using a Type B distribution. We demonstrate the method using actual data from the Charpy machine verification program.

Book From Charpy to Present Impact Testing

Download or read book From Charpy to Present Impact Testing written by D. Francois and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-06-18 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Charpy to Present Impact Testing contains 52 peer-reviewed papers selected from those presented at the Charpy Centenary Conference held in Poitiers, France, 2-5 October 2001. The name of Charpy remains associated with impact testing on notched specimens. At a time when many steam engines exploded, engineers were preoccupied with studying the resistance of steels to impact loading. The Charpy test has provided invaluable indications on the impact properties of materials. It revealed the brittle ductile transition of ferritic steels. The Charpy test is able to provide more quantitative results by instrumenting the striker, which allows the evolution of the applied load during the impact to be determined. The Charpy test is of great importance to evaluate the embrittlement of steels by irradiation in nuclear reactors. Progress in computer programming has allowed for a computer model of the test to be developed; a difficult task in view of its dynamic, three dimensional, adiabatic nature. Together with precise observations of the processes of fracture, this opens the possibility of transferring quantitatively the results of Charpy tests to real components. This test has also been extended to materials other than steels, and is also frequently used to test polymeric materials. Thus the Charpy test is a tool of great importance and is still at the root of a number of investigations; this is the reason why it was felt that the centenary of the Charpy test had to be celebrated. The Société Française de Métallurgie et de Matériaux decided to organise an international conference which was put under the auspices of the European Society for the Integrity of Structures (ESIS). This Charpy Centenary Conference (CCC 2001) was held in Poitiers, at Futuroscope in October 2001. More than 150 participants from 17 countries took part in the discussions and about one hundred presentations were given. An exhibition of equipment showed, not only present day testing machines, but also one of the first Charpy pendulums, brought all the way from Imperial College in London. From Charpy to Present Impact Testing puts together a number of significant contributions. They are classified into 6 headings: •Keynote lectures,•Micromechanisms,•Polymers,•Testing procedures,•Applications,•Modelling.

This standard applies to the Charpy pendulum impact test under room temperature, high temperature or low temperature conditions, but does not include the instrumental impact test method, the content of this part is as shown in GB/T 19748.

Book On the Accuracy of Measurement and Calibration of Load Signal in the Instrumented Charpy Impact Test

Download or read book On the Accuracy of Measurement and Calibration of Load Signal in the Instrumented Charpy Impact Test written by H. Toda and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant variation in measured load of an instrumented Charpy impact test is observed if specimen materials or sizes are changed from the standard specimen. Load calibration factors for different materials and sizes of specimens are evaluated by means of both experiments and finite element analysis. Elastic finite element analysis shows that the strain fields in the instrumented striker in contact with different materials and sizes of specimens are not exactly the same as those for the standard specimen. As a result of experiment and analysis, the decrease in stiffness or size of specimens results in a decrease in the calibration factor. Those are attributable to strain localization near the region in which the strain gage is attached. Therefore, the measured load for low-stiffness materials or miniaturized specimens is overestimated when the decrease of calibration factor is disregarded. Those results strongly suggest that the system must be calibrated for the different materials and sizes of specimens to obtain accurate toughness data.

Book Study of the Stability of Charpy V notch Reference Test Pieces for Tests at 20 C ERM FA013ba ERM FA015v and ERM FA016ax During Long term Storage at 18 C

Download or read book Study of the Stability of Charpy V notch Reference Test Pieces for Tests at 20 C ERM FA013ba ERM FA015v and ERM FA016ax During Long term Storage at 18 C written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the frame of the certification of the Master Batches ERM®-FA013ba, ERM® FA015v and ERM®-FA016ax a long-term isochronous stability study was planned covering a storage period of 48 months with storage periods of 12, 24, 36 and 48 months at a storage temperature of 18 °C and using a reference temperature of -20 °C. The results of the stability study indicate that the absolute values obtained for the different Master Batches agree within the respective uncertainties with the certified values as well as with values obtained during the certification of Secondary Batches and that there is no indication of instability of the Charpy Master Batches for a period of at least 10 years. Moreover as the measurement uncertainty is the main contribution to the uncertainty of the certified value it is decided not to add an uncertainty contribution for stability to the certified uncertainty of the Master Batches.

Book Certification of Charpy V notch Reference Test Pieces of 150 J Nominal Absorbed Energy

Download or read book Certification of Charpy V notch Reference Test Pieces of 150 J Nominal Absorbed Energy written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This certification report describes the processing and characterisation of ERM-FA415j, a batch of Charpy V-notch certified reference test pieces. Sets of five of these test pieces are used for the verification of pendulum impact test machines according to EN 10045-2 (Charpy impact test on metallic materials, Part 2. Method for the verification of impact testing machines [1]) or according to ISO 148-2 (Metallic materials - Charpy pendulum impact test - Part 2: Verification of test machines [2]). The certified value for KV (= energy required to break a V-notched test piece using a pendulum impact test machine) is 149.1 J. The associated uncertainty (4.2 J, k = 2 corresponding to a confidence level of 95 %) is calculated for the mean of a set of five test pieces. The certified value is traceable to the Charpy impact test method as described in EN 10045-1 [3] and ISO 148 [4], via the corresponding Master Batch ERM-FA415b of the same nominal absorbed energy (150 J). ERM-FA415j has been accepted as European Reference Material (ERM) after successful peer evaluation by the partners of the European Reference Materials consortium.
