Book excerpt: This multi-authored volume presents selected papers from the Eighth Workshop on Dynamics and Control. Many of the papers represent significant advances in this area of research, and cover the development of control methods, including the control of dynamical systems subject to mixed constraints on both the control and state variables, and the development of a control design method for flexible manipulators with mismatched uncertainties. Advances in dynamic systems are presented, particularly in game-theoretic approaches and also the applications of dynamic systems methodology to social and environmental problems, for example, the concept of virtual biospheres in modeling climate change in terms of dynamical systems.

Book New Trends In Dynamic Systems Theory And Economics

Download or read book New Trends In Dynamic Systems Theory And Economics written by Masanao Aoki and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1979-01-28 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Trends in Dynamic System Theory and Economics contains selected papers presented at a two-week seminar on New Trends in Dynamic System Theory and Economics held at the International Center for Mechanical Sciences in Udine, Italy, on September 12-23, 1977. Contributors discuss recent trends in the application of dynamic system theory in economic analysis, paying particular attention to information patterns and uncertainty, optimal control theory and its application, and disequilibrium analysis. This book is divided into three sections and consists of 20 chapters. Decision problems of agents with different or imperfect information or under uncertainty are first discussed. This section gives a detailed analysis of the properties of Nash and Stackelberg equilibria in dynamic games under several different information patterns. Consideration is also given to microdecision problems of individual agents, macroeconomic stabilization of an uncertain dynamic economy, and the uncertainty of parameter values. The chapters that follow focus on recent advances in optimal control theory and application of control theory. Disequilibrium analysis of a macroeconomic model is presented, along with the dynamics of disequilibria of a macroeconomic model with flexible wages and prices. A generalization of Pareto optimality is used to discuss the connection between the optimality and stability problems in a general setting. The last three chapters explore ""modern"" approaches to tâtonnement processes. This book will be of interest to students and practitioners of applied mathematics and econometrics.

Book Pursuit Evasion Differential Games

Download or read book Pursuit Evasion Differential Games written by Y. Yavin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty papers are devoted to the treatment of a wide spectrum of problems in the theory and applications of dynamic games with the emphasis on pursuit-evasion differential games. The problem of capturability is thoroughly investigated, also the problem of noise-corrupted (state) measurements. Attention is given to aerial combat problems and their attendant modelling issues, such as variable speed of the combatants, the three-dimensionality of physical space, and the combat problem, i.e. problems related to 'role determination'.

Book Decision Processes in Economics

Download or read book Decision Processes in Economics written by Gianni Ricci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a selection of the papers presented at the symposium on "Decision processes in Economics" which was held in Modena (Italy) on 9-10 October 1989. It coincided with the annual meeting of the italian group on Game Theory; the group is formed by economists, mathematicians, engineers and social scientists. One of the targets of the Meeting, and therefore of the book, is to create an opportunity for having together papers by scientists with an "optimal control" education and papers by theorists on refinement of equilibrium, on repeted games and other topics. These two modes of working on Games are quite different but we think that a unitary approch to Games can be given and this book is an attempt in this direction. Another important and updated issue which is emphisized in the book is the discussion of computation and efficiency of numerical methods in Games. Stochastic differential games are treated in the papers by Basar, Haurie -and Deissemberg. Basar considers a stochastic model of a conflict situation between the monetary policy maker (go vernment) and the responding agent (private sector). Because of asymmetry in the (stochastic) information available the Nash and the Stackelberg games become non standard stochastic diffe rential games. After the discussion of the conditions leading to a solution he provides a numerical example for the proposed game. Haurie considers a game where the observed state changes according to a stochastic jump process.

Book Control of Nonlinear Mechanical Systems

Download or read book Control of Nonlinear Mechanical Systems written by Jan M. Skowronski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A modern mechanical structure must work at high speed and with high precision in space and time, in cooperation with other machines and systems. All this requires accurate dynamic modelling, for instance, recognizing Coriolis and centrifugal forces, strong coupling effects, flexibility of links, large angles articulation. This leads to a motion equation which must be highly nonlinear to describe the reality. r1oreover, work on the manufacturing floor requires coordination between nachines, between each machine and a conveyor, and demands robustness of the controllers against uncertainty in payload, gravity, external perturbations etc. This requires adaptive controllers and system coordination, and perhaps a self organizing structure. The machines become complex, strongly nonlinear and strongly coupled mechanical systems with many degrees of freedom, controlled by sophisticated mathematical programs. The design of such systems needs basic research in Control and System Dynamics, as well as in Decision Making Theory (Dynamic Games), not only in the use of these disciplines, but in their adjustment to the present demand. This in turn generates the need to prepare engineering students for the job by the teaching of more sophisti cated techniques in control and Mechanics than those contained in previous curricula. On the other hand, all that was mentioned above regarding the design of machines applies equally well to other presently designed and used mechan ical structures or systems.

Book Estimators for Uncertain Dynamic Systems

Download or read book Estimators for Uncertain Dynamic Systems written by A.I. Matasov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When solving the control and design problems in aerospace and naval engi neering, energetics, economics, biology, etc., we need to know the state of investigated dynamic processes. The presence of inherent uncertainties in the description of these processes and of noises in measurement devices leads to the necessity to construct the estimators for corresponding dynamic systems. The estimators recover the required information about system state from mea surement data. An attempt to solve the estimation problems in an optimal way results in the formulation of different variational problems. The type and complexity of these variational problems depend on the process model, the model of uncertainties, and the estimation performance criterion. A solution of variational problem determines an optimal estimator. Howerever, there exist at least two reasons why we use nonoptimal esti mators. The first reason is that the numerical algorithms for solving the corresponding variational problems can be very difficult for numerical imple mentation. For example, the dimension of these algorithms can be very high.

Book LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games

Download or read book LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games written by Jacob Engwerda and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-06-17 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Game theory is the theory of social situations, and the majority of research into the topic focuses on how groups of people interact by developing formulas and algorithms to identify optimal strategies and to predict the outcome of interactions. Only fifty years old, it has already revolutionized economics and finance, and is spreading rapidly to a wide variety of fields. LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games is an assessment of the state of the art in its field and the first modern book on linear-quadratic game theory, one of the most commonly used tools for modelling and analysing strategic decision making problems in economics and management. Linear quadratic dynamic models have a long tradition in economics, operations research and control engineering; and the author begins by describing the one-decision maker LQ dynamic optimization problem before introducing LQ differential games. Covers cooperative and non-cooperative scenarios, and treats the standard information structures (open-loop and feedback). Includes real-life economic examples to illustrate theoretical concepts and results. Presents problem formulations and sound mathematical problem analysis. Includes exercises and solutions, enabling use for self-study or as a course text. Supported by a website featuring solutions to exercises, further examples and computer code for numerical examples. LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games offers a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of this extensively used class of economic models, and will appeal to applied mathematicians and econometricians as well as researchers and senior undergraduate/graduate students in economics, mathematics, engineering and management science.

Book A Differential Games Approach for Analysis of Spacecraft Post docking Operations

Download or read book A Differential Games Approach for Analysis of Spacecraft Post docking Operations written by Takashi Hiramatsu and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For that purpose it is important to characterize this uncertain interactions. An approach to approximate this uncertainty is to model the docked state of spacecraft as a differential game with each spacecraft being the player, where the interactions are the outcome of the gameplay. Differential games is a class of game theory that describe a dynamical system with multiple control inputs with different objectives. Each input which actively affects the behavior of the system (e.g., control inputs, noise, disturbance, and other external inputs) is called a player of the game, and those players cooperate with or compete against one another to achieve their objectives. This manuscript addresses the characterization of a noncooperative behavior expected in satellite post-docking, and the corresponding controller law to achieve docking-state maintenance through modeling and solving the two-person Stackelberg differential game.

Book Lyapunov Functions in Differential Games

Download or read book Lyapunov Functions in Differential Games written by Vladislav I Zhukovskiy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-01-16 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major step in differential games is determining an explicit form of the strategies of players who follow a certain optimality principle. To do this, the associated modification of Bellman dynamic programming problems has to be solved; for some differential games this could be Lyapunov functions whose "arsenal" has been supplied by stability theory. This approach, which combines dynamic programming and the Lyapunov function method, leads to coefficient criteria, or ratios of the game math model parameters with which optimal strategies of the players not only exist but their analytical form can be specified. In this book coefficient criteria are derived for numerous new and relevant problems in the theory of linear-quadratic multi-player differential games. Those criteria apply when the players formulate their strategies independently (non co-operative games) and use non-Nash equilibria or when the game model recognizes noise, perturbation and other uncertainties of which only their ranges are known (differential games under uncertainty). This text is useful for researchers, engineers and students of applied mathematics, control theory and the engineering sciences.
