Download or read book The Language of the In Between written by Erika Almenara and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Often, the process of modern state formation is founded on the marginalization of certain groups, and Latin America is no exception. In The Language of the In-Between, Erika Almenara contends that literary production replicates this same process. Looking at marginalized communities in Chile and Peru, particularly writers who are travesti, trans, cuir/queer, and Indigenous, the author shows how these writers stake a claim for the liminal space that is neither one thing nor the other. This allows a freedom to expose oppression and to critique a national identity based on erasure. By employing a language of nonnormative gender and sexuality to dispute the state projects of modernity and modernization, the voice of the poor and racialized travesti evolves from powerlessness to become an agent of social transformation.
Download or read book Trauma and Pain Without a Subject written by Juan-Eduardo Tesone and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-03-29 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trauma and Pain Without a Subject explores the necessity of the subject of trauma emerging, particularly when a victim has experienced but not worked through disruptive situations, in order for unconscious pain to finally be experienced. The book is presented in three parts, with the first, "Transgression and Crime", uncovering silence around the topic of incest and sexual violence within the clinic. The second part, "Between Completeness and Nothingness", develops the topic of sexual violence and considers the construction of femininities and masculinities within the paradigm of a heteronormative patriarchal society, with reference to Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The third part, “Yes, We See, But What? What We Hear”, explores the intimate relation between the visual and the auditory, especially in relation to hysteria. Trauma and Pain Without a Subject will be of great interest to psychoanalysts in practice and in training, and to all psychoanalytic practitioners working with trauma.
Download or read book Un cuerpo mil sexos written by Jorge Horacio Raices Montero and published by Editorial Topía. This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Until Tuesday written by Luis Carlos Montalvan and published by Hachette Books. This book was released on 2011-05-03 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A heartwarming dog story like no other: Tuesday, a lovable golden retriever, changes a former soldier’s life forever. A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalván never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home from combat, however, his physical wounds and crippling post-traumatic stress disorder began to take their toll. He wondered if he would ever recover. Then Luis met Tuesday, a sensitive golden retriever trained to assist people with disabilities. Tuesday had lived among prisoners and at a home for troubled boys, and he found it difficult to trust in or connect with a human being–until Luis. Until Tuesday is the story of how two wounded warriors, who had given so much and suffered the consequences, found salvation in each other. It is a story about war and peace, injury and recovery, psychological wounds and spiritual restoration. But more than that, it is a story about the love between a man and dog, and how, together, they healed each other’s souls.

Download or read book N stor Perlongher written by Ben Bollig and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Argentine Nestor Perlongher was a groundbreaking poet and anthropologist whose work takes on the most dynamic and conflictive themes of modern-day Latin America. His poetry addresses issues of dictatorship, national identity, exile, transvestism and marginal sexualities, and modern-day esoteric religions while his anthropological work challenged the very limits of the human being and attacked the most entrenched of contemporary taboos." "Nestor Perlongher: The Poetic Search for an Argentine Marginal Voice is a vital addition to our understanding of the difficult work of this poet, for two reasons. First, Perlongher was a pioneer in a number of fields: sexual rights, urban anthropology, the philosophy of Deleuze and Guattari, esoteric religions and, crucially, modern Plate River poetry. This work is the first in English to comprehensively address this provocative and innovative oeuvre. Secondly, Perlongher's difficult, highly allusive and linguistically challenging poetry creates problems of reading and interpretation for any researcher. Ben Bollig draws on a wealth of historical, cultural and social research about contemporary Argentina, providing a rich background against which to assess Perlongher's work. The detailed close readings of the poems themselves offer ways into Perlongher's work and methodological tools for the study of difficult poetry."--BOOK JACKET.
Download or read book A Frozen Woman written by Annie Ernaux and published by Seven Stories Press. This book was released on 2020-05-19 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WINNER OF THE 2022 NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE A Frozen Woman charts Ernaux's teenage awakening, and then the parallel progression of her desire to be desirable and her ambition to fulfill herself in her chosen profession - with the inevitable conflict between the two. And then she is 30 years old, a teacher married to an executive, mother of two infant sons. She looks after their nice apartment, raises her children. And yet, like millions of other women, she has felt her enthusiasm and curiosity, her strength and her happiness, slowly ebb under the weight of her daily routine. The very condition that everyone around her seems to consider normal and admirable for a woman is killing her. While each of Ernaux's books contain an autobiographical element, A Frozen Woman, one of Ernaux's early works, concentrates the spotlight piercingly on Annie herself. Mixing affection, rage and bitterness, A Frozen Woman shows us Ernaux's developing art when she still relied on traditional narrative, before the shortened form emerged that has since become her trademark.

Download or read book Directory of Spanish and Portuguese Film Makers and Films written by Rafael de España and published by Greenwood. This book was released on 1994-11-29 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book catalogues some 215 prominent film directors from both countries, giving accurate bio-filmographies and providing an in-depth reference source. Full attention is given to the propaganda cinema under dictators Franco and Salazar, to film-makers who left to work abroad--especially in Latin America--and to those filming in the regional languages (mainly Basque and Catalan). There is coverage not only of internationally well-known figures Almodovar, Bunuel, Oliveira, and Saura, but also across the complete range of feature, documentary, and animation film-making: early pioneers Segundo de Chomon, Catalans Jose Maria Codina, Fructuoso Gelabert, and Magi Muria, and Portuguese Aurelio da Paz dos Reis; experimentalists and avant-garde figures such as Lorenzo Llobet-Gracia, Jose Val del Omar, and Nemesio Sobrevila and documentarist Antonio Campos; animators Cruz Delgado, Francisco Macian, and Arturo Moreno (who worked on the first full-length animated film in Europe, Garbancito de la Mancha, in 1945). Each entry gives information on the film-maker's career (date and place of birth, educational qualifications, work experience, positions held), together with a list of films made, with dates of production. There are three indexes: Country Index, Film Title Index, and General Index. The index of film titles lists over 3,000 entries, including the original languages and their English language and aka equivalents.
