Book RFID at Ultra and Super High Frequencies

Download or read book RFID at Ultra and Super High Frequencies written by Dominique Paret and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-11-24 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past, very little practical information or training has been available for engineers, technicians and students in the area of radio frequency identification (RFID) systems at ultra high frequencies (UHF) and super high frequencies (SHF). Here, Dominique Paret offers you a complete guide to the theory, components, practical application areas and standards in RFID at UHF and SHF. He achieves an expert balance between theory and technology, finance and other aspects, providing a clear view of the entire field. This book deals with the real aspects of contactless applications in detail, and divided into five parts, covers: Basic principles, general considerations and the market, defining all essential terms and the different tags and applications. Wave propagation principles and theory. Communication and transmission, baseband signals, carrier modulation and interactions, discussing communication modes between the base station and tag, and energy transfer modes. International safety standards and regulations, including International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) models, and methods for evaluating commercial tags. Components for tags and base stations. This comprehensive reference is ideal for computer and electronics engineers working on the design and development of RFID systems for the electronics industry, as well as for those in other industries such as automotive, security and transport, who want to implement RFID into their business. Dominique Paret’s book is also a solid and thorough technical introduction to the subject for graduate level students and researchers in electronics and industrial engineering design.

Book excerpt: Meet Vanessa, an almost thirty-something New Yorker who thinks she's got it all: marriage-material boyfriend Ethan, her own bilingual preschool, a closet full of designer fashions, and daily diner dates with her best friend Emily. But when Ethan doesn't turn out to be all he's supposed to be, Vanessa's world instantly unravels. Suddenly single, she stumbles upon a wealthy man and moves to Palm Beach to marry him, only to find the shocking truth behind the source of his wealth. Is having everything worth sacrificing who you really are? But what about the Shoe Salon at Bergdorf's? The Louboutin collection? Vanessa finds herself at a crossroads, and the choices she makes might surprise everyone-even herself. Witty, insightful, and eminently relatable, Erica Negi's story is a modern twist on the Cinderella tale-albeit in designer shoes. Reminiscent of the works of Jennifer Weiner and Candace Bushnell, My Life in Loubies is one woman's uproarious journey to adulthood.

Book Star Trek A Cultural History

Download or read book Star Trek A Cultural History written by M. Keith Booker and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-09-15 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First airing in 1966, with a promise to “boldly go where no man has gone before,” Star Trek would eventually become a bona fide phenomenon. Week after week, viewers of the series tuned in to watch Captain Kirk, Spock, and the rest of the crew of the USS Enterprise as they conducted their five-year mission in space. Their mission was cut short by a corporate monolith that demanded higher ratings, but Star Trek lived on in syndication, ultimately becoming a multibillion-dollar media franchise. With merchandise spin-offs, feature films, and several television iterations—from The Next Generation to Discovery—Star Trek is a firmly established part of the American cultural landscape. In Star Trek: A Cultural History, M. Keith Booker offers an intriguing account of the series from its original run to its far-reaching impact on society. By placing the Star Trek franchise within the context of American history and popular culture, the author explores how the series engaged with political and social issues such as the Vietnam War, race, gender, and the advancement of technology. While this book emphasizes the original series, it also addresses the significance of subsequent programs, as well as the numerous films and extensive array of novels, comic books, and merchandise that have been produced in the decades since. A show that originally resonated with science fiction fans, Star Trek has also intrigued the general public due to its engaging characters, exciting plotlines, and vision of a better future. It is those exact elements that allowed Star Trek to go from simply a good show to the massive media franchise it is today. Star Trek: A Cultural History will appeal to scholars of media, television, and popular culture, as well as to fans of the show.

Book Ultra High Power Amplitron

Download or read book Ultra High Power Amplitron written by and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This program was intended to show the feasibility of producing pulse and CW microwave power at S-band in the range of hundreds of average kilowatts. The program was divided into three major phases, a CW tubes development, a pulsed tube development, and the design and construction of high-power test equipment. The objectives of the CW development were to produce a minimum of 400 kilowatts power output at 3000 Mc. The objectives of the pulsed tube development are classified. The test equipment phase of the program consisted of the construction and installation of both tubes simultaneously and independently. A total capacity in excess of 3000 kilowatts was installed. Supplementary research work in the areas of cathode secondary emission studies, highpower microwave windows, and high dissipation cooling techniques was also conducted. During the earlier phases of the development existing low-power test equipment was used until parts of the high-power facility were completed. The CW portion of the installation was operational 22 months after the start of the program; the pulsed equipment was in full operation 18 months later. With the achievement of 425 kilowatts of power output in the final tube models of the CW program, substantially all of the program objectives had been accomplished. (Author).
