Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With all the upheaval, instability, and social unrest in the wake of the Arab Spring, Morocco is designated as a major non-NATO ally and is working toward a political transition in instituting democratic reforms. Three years ago, King Mohammed proposed constitutional reforms that would push Morocco toward democracy and reform, shifting some power that was centralized in a monarchy to the people. This new constitution was ratified a few months later and was succeeded by parliamentary elections that saw a new government formed, complete with a new Prime Minister from an opposition party with a mandate to have more power to govern. Last year, Morocco successfully completed a 5-year Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact in which the U.S. helped Morocco increase productivity, employment prospects, investment, and economic growth. The political transition toward democracy is being paralleled by Morocco's economic transition which is under way. But that is contingent upon Morocco remaining a safe and stable country and that is yet another area in which our two nations collaborate closely. While the rest of the region struggles to cope with radicalization and Islamic fundamentalism, Morocco is working to foster and spread a more moderate form of Islam in the Muslim Kingdom.

Book Moroccan Foreign Policy under Mohammed VI 1999 2014

Download or read book Moroccan Foreign Policy under Mohammed VI 1999 2014 written by Irene Fernandez-Molina and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-10-23 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive survey of Moroccan foreign policy since 1999. It considers the objectives, actors and decision-making processes involved, and outlines Morocco's foreign policy activity in key areas such as the international management of the Western Sahara conflict and relations with the other states of North Africa, relations with the European Union, especially France and Spain, and relations with the United States and the Middle East. The book links the behaviour and discourses analysed to differing conceptions of Morocco's national role on the international scene - champion of national territorial integrity, model student of the EU, and good ally of the United States - and shows how these competing approaches to the country's foreign policy enjoy different degrees of domestic consensus, and result in different degrees of legitimation for the regime.

Book Arab Reform and Foreign Aid

Download or read book Arab Reform and Foreign Aid written by Haim Malka and published by CSIS. This book was released on 2006 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Talk of reform is on the lips of many in Morocco, from the salons to the slums, and far into the countryside. Moroccans talk about reform in their country as an imperative, and the country s young king has been a key driver. Because of that, Morocco has drawn the attention of governments in the United States and Europe, which have seen their own strategic interests being tied to economic, political, and social reform in the Middle East and North Africa. Given all of the interest in reform, are the Moroccans going about it the right way? Are outside powers playing the proper constructive role, or are they undermining their own and Moroccans efforts toward positive change? This study analyzes U.S. and European policies to promote reform in Morocco, as well as the efforts of Moroccans themselves, and it seeks to understand the most effective ways to create complementary strategies toward reform." -- Product description.

Book Political Change in Morocco

Download or read book Political Change in Morocco written by Douglas Elliott Ashford and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to develop new forms of political expression and political participation on the national level is one of the major problems facing newly independent countries. Mr. Ashford gives a careful description of the pattern of Moroccan national politics at the time of independence, and analyzes how this pattern was changed during the first three post-independence years. He provides a general outline of the ways a widely differentiated people can participate in the national politics of a developing country. Like Apter's books on Ghana and Uganda, and Wriggins’ book on Ceylon, this is an important study of the transition to independence of a postwar, rapidly developing political system. Originally published in 1961. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. Download or read book Morocco written by Wilson Graves and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Successive U.S. Administrations have viewed Morocco as an important regional ally, a partner in counterterrorism, and a free trade counterpart. Morocco receives substantial U.S. development aid, and bilateral trade and investment have increased following a 2006 Free Trade Agreement. Morocco also benefits from U.S. security assistance and military cooperation, and is a purchaser of U.S. defense articles, including F-16 jets. Some observers have placed greater emphasis on the U.S.-Morocco relationship amid regional turmoil and terrorist threats emanating from neighboring states in North Africa and the nearby Sahel region of West Africa. This book discusses current issues in Morocco. It also focuses on the geopolitical and economic drivers for the renewed Moroccan interest in West Africa and examines how Morocco is conducting its foreign and security policy in a variety of Western African countries. Furthermore, the book includes Morocco's 2014 Human Rights Report, International Religious Freedom Report, and the Investment Climate Statement for 2015.
