Book The Fallows

    Book Details:
  • Author : Aaron Ross
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2011-07-19
  • ISBN : 146533503X
  • Pages : 398 pages

Download or read book The Fallows written by Aaron Ross and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-07-19 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One man goes on a quest to find his lost love facing not only the gods themselves but also humanity and the forces of nature. In a spiritual adventure the man inspires not only the gods but also the people of the earth to save the world from global warming, war, famine, disease, and abuse. Together the gods and mankind join hands to call forth the evils of the world back into Pandora’s box, which was once released into the world by the mighty Zeus because Prometheus stole fire from Mount Olympus and gave it to man. I wish not to overwhelm the readers by stretching their consciousness beyond the boundaries of their own reason. But for you to gain the most out of your reading experience of The Fallows, you must know that I have worked hard to speak to its readers on three different intellectual levels. And I hope that you will enjoy this book, for in truth I cried tears with every line of poetry that was written, and it’s no lie: The Fallows was truly a remarkably healing experience for me as I hope that it will be as much a healing experience for you. The first intellectual level in which The Fallows speaks is primarily a poetic story. It is a tale about a man who was born into the world without knowing his true family, and after his quest to find them, he comes home to find he has lost the only woman that he loves. In metaphorical language, the man goes into the forest to call upon the birds of the air for love, symbolically representing humanity as John the Baptist in the Bible was once weeping in the wilderness. In the forest he is met by the great phoenix, and he is sent out on a quest to save the earth, and if he accomplishes the phoenix’s quest, the birds of the air will gather to find his love. Left alone and hungry after the phoenix and his kin fly away, the man eats a poisonous flower and perishes, representing the fall of humanity, as Adam and Eve once ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, bringing death and sin into the world. From this point on of this great story, you are left on your own to discover The Fallows; it is a great story about man’s love for woman and woman’s love for man and the love they have for their child and the gods, but most importantly it is about their love for the earth. I do not wish to ruin the rest of the story before you have had the chance to read it yourself, so I will not reveal any more of its major themes. The second intellectual level in which the book speaks is found in the allegorical messages written in the poem that are in reference to my walk across America for love, inspiring the people of the world to unite their strengths, hearts, and resources to heal the earth, which provides for us all. When the sunset rises in New York from the east, early in the morning I will fill a jar with water from the Atlantic Ocean to be carried across America in my backpack to be dumped into the Pacific Ocean in California exactly while the sun is setting over the west. The jar poetically represents Pandora’s box of evils that have been released into the world. What most people don’t know is that it was not Pandora’s box at all which was opened but a jar that was opened because of her curiosity. Thus Pandora’s jar is what was opened to release the evils into the world; the only spiritual force left in the jar was hope. The ancient poems written about Pandora in the past speak of a clay jar that was opened, not a box. Pandora’s box does sound better than Pandora’ jar, but in all actuality there is still a debate over the issue because there are also references to a box. Which one is the truth, we unfortunately may never know. I am walking across America for love and for all lovers that ever were and for all lovers that will ever be to add more emotional charge to the words of love in this poem for all times dedicated to lovers forever and eternal. Because actions will forever speak louder than words. I have read that great writers in the past would go on walks through the e

Book The Lonely Hearts Club

Download or read book The Lonely Hearts Club written by Brenda Janowitz and published by Polis Books. This book was released on 2014-05-06 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jo Waldman lives life to her own soundtrack—working for her father by day while pursuing her music career in NYC’s downtown clubs at night. Music is her passion, along with her boyfriend, Jesse, who shares her dreams of making it big. Jo's old band, The Lonely Hearts Club, came thisclose to getting a huge recording contract, and she’s just biding her time, waiting for lightning to strike twice. The music business is tough, but so is Jo. So when Jo's father fires her and Jesse breaks up with her, Jo doesn’t get upset—she just wants to rage. Dusting off her computer, Jo writes a blog entry, pouring her heart out about the shortcomings of love. Except that no sooner does Jo hit “upload” than the site sends a mass e-mail to the entire Lonely Hearts mailing list, alerting everybody Joe has ever met that she's been brutally dumped. All Jo wants to do is hide under the covers, but to her surprise, supportive e-mails start flowing in—many of them from complete strangers. Apparently, her anti-love rant has struck a chord. The Lonely Hearts Club Blog develops a huge following, even capturing the eye of Jo’s sworn nemesis, bubble gum pop princess Amber Fairchild. Jo soon becomes an icon for all things “anti-love,” and at her fans' request, she begins to plan The Lonely Hearts Club Ball—a massive anti-love Valentine's Day party to end all parties. Jo quickly becomes the poster girl for lonely hearts, and it inspires her to start writing music again. There's only one problem: the web programmer helping Jo with her site is simply dreamy. Jo's never been very good at depriving herself of anything, but if this budding romance is exposed, she'll be revealed as an 'anti-love' fraud and risk losing all the people who have grown trust her voice. So is it time to start singing love songs, or time to pick up the guitar and return to the hard rock that almost got The Lonely Hearts signed in the first place? Either way, Jo's got some big decisions to make, and it looks like she's going to have to take one step closer to doing something she never thought she'd do—becoming a grownup. From Brenda Janowitz, author of the beloved Brooke Miller novels SCOT ON THE ROCKS and JACK WITH A TWIST comes another uproariously funny and heartfelt story that will ring true to anyone who's dug themselves into a hole only to find that getting out is where you least expect it.

Book Applied Linguistics and Politics

Download or read book Applied Linguistics and Politics written by Christian W. Chun and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-02-24 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the current climate of extreme nationalism and fear-mongering, a new politics for a socially just world is needed more than ever. Featuring internationally-renowned scholars, Applied Linguistics and Politics explores how innovative theories, methodologies and pedagogies in applied linguistics can address the political challenges and issues arising in the 21st century. Adopting a Gramscian theoretical framework, the five parts of this volume focus on the various ways in which the political is discursively and materially realized in its dialogic co-constructions within the media, the economy, culture and identity, affect, and education. Examining the power instantiations of sociolinguistic and semiotic practices in society from a variety of critical perspectives, this book questions how applied linguists can respond to, and challenge, current discourses of issues such as militarism, nationalism, Islamophobia, sexism, racism and the free market, and suggests future directions for research. Making use of a range of methodologies from discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, semiotics and political science, Applied Linguistics and Politics demonstrates how linguistics can intervene in the political and help mobilize and organize for an economically and socially just society.

Book Bloggerati Twitterati

Download or read book Bloggerati Twitterati written by Mary Cross and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-06-07 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As timely as the latest tweet, this book tracks the digital revolution as a paradigm shift that is transforming popular culture in as yet unforeseen ways. Bloggerati, Twitterati: How Blogs and Twitter Are Transforming Popular Culture explores the ongoing digital revolution and examines the way it is changing—and will change—the way people live and communicate. Starting from the proposition that the Internet is now the center of popular culture, the book offers descriptions of blogs and Twitter and the online behavior they foster. It looks at the demographics of users and the impact of the Internet on knowledge, thinking, writing, politics, and journalism. A primary focus is on the way blogs and tweets are opening up communication to the people, free from gatekeepers and sanctioned rhetoric. The other side of the coin is the online hijacking of the news and its potential for spreading misinformation and fomenting polarization, topics that are analyzed even as the situation continues to evolve. Finally, the book gathers predictions from cultural critics about the future of digital popular culture and makes a few predictions of its own.
