Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is vital to anyone connected with the media: students, broadcasters, lawyers, executives, academics, and citizens. It offers the first and only analysis of this important area. More than a text on the letter of the law, it explains what the law is supposed to do, what it actually does, and where it is heading. The book outlines the departments, tribunals, federations and other bodies concerned with communications, and places them in perspective with a history of broadcasting law. It gives access to a range of sources and documents which have been almost impenetrable until now." -- back cover.

Book excerpt: Water and Wastewater companies operating all around the world have faced rising asset management and replacement costs, often to levels that are financially unsustainable. Management of investment needs, while meeting regulatory and other goals, has required: A better understanding of what customers demand from the services they pay for, and the extent to which they are willing to pay for improvements or be compensated for a reduction in performance Development of models to predict asset failure and to identify and concentrate investment on critical assets Improved management systems Improved accounting for costs and benefits and their incorporation within an appropriate cost-benefit framework Incorporation of risk management techniques Utilisation of advanced maintenance techniques including new rehabilitation failure detection technologies Enhancements in pipeline materials, technologies and laying techniques. These papers developed from LESAM 2007 for inclusion in Strategic Asset Management of Water Supply and Wastewater Infrastructures are focused on the techniques, technologies and management approaches aiming at optimising the investment in infrastructure while achieving demanded customer service standards, and they provide an opportunity to gain access to the latest discussion and developments at the leading-edge in this field. This book will be essential reading for utility operators and managers, regulators and consultants.

Download or read book Imagineering the Butterfly Effect written by Diane Nijs and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: X91;Making change happen’ is an important challenge strategists face today. Not only do many of our organizations need change, whole industries and systems need to transform in order to survive and thrive in a connected society. In this study the complexity-based design approach of imagineering is presented and evaluated for its effectiveness in realizing organizational innovation in a sustainable way.0The method approaches organizational change as an emerging process of self-organization. By redesigning the business concept in the narrative mode a kind of bottom-up revitalizing process is effectuated which ignites the collective creativity of involved stakeholders in a strategically envisioned direction. Instead of focusing on changing behavior as conventional change-methods do, the method focuses on achieving a mind-shift in order to effectuate ‘transformation by inspiration’. The effectiveness of the method is evaluated predominantly through two cases which span a period of approximately ten years: the case of the city of Antwerp, and the case of the oldest Belgian retail-chain, Veritas. Based on insights gained from this study, the author reflects on the implications of the imagineering design method on four fields of study: transformative organizing, strategic thinking, design thinking in management and management education.

Download or read book The Political Economy of Water Pricing Reforms written by Ariel Dinar and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lately our world has witnessed massive changes and reforms in various sectors in many countries, developing and developed alike. Institutional and pricing reforms in the water sector are also part of that recent trend. They are led by the recognition of a need to respond to increased scarcity and deteriorated quality. Is the water sector different than other sectors, as some claim? Should reforms in the water sector be designed and implemented differently than reforms of a similar type, in other sectors? The Political Economy of Water Pricing Reforms answers these questions by providing various analytical frameworks that allow comparison across various conditions, and by actually comparing reform processes under various conditions in different countries. This book demonstrates the common threads that characterize pricing reforms in the water sector by analyzing various aspects of the reforms in the irrigation and urban subsectors of 10 countries. Cases from Morocco, Senegal, Honduras, Belgium, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Pakistan, Yemen, and the United States illustrate the difficulties of designing and implementing "optimal" pricing reforms and explain how reform outcomes fall short of the original objective. "This book should be on the must reading list for anyone interested in water pricing and how to reform water rights systems to achieve increased economic efficiency as well as a legitimate and equitable system of property rights."
