Download or read book Turning the Page written by Angus Phillips and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-05 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an exciting period for the book, a time of innovation, experimentation, and change. It is also a time of considerable fear within the book industry as it adjusts to changes in how books are created and consumed. The movement to digital has been taking place for some time, but with consumer books experiencing the transition, the effects of digitization can be clearly seen to everybody. In Turning the Page Angus Phillips analyses the fundamental drivers of the book publishing industry - authorship, readership, and copyright - and examines the effects of digital and other developments on the book itself. Drawing on theory and research across a range of subjects, from business and sociology to neuroscience and psychology, and from interviews with industry professionals, Phillips investigates how the fundamentals of the book industry are changing in a world of ebooks, self-publishing, and emerging business models. Useful comparisons are also made with other media industries which have undergone rapid change, such as music and newspapers. This book is an ideal companion for anyone wishing to understand the transition of the book, writing and publishing in recent years and will be particularly relevant to students studying publishing, media and communications.
Download or read book If It Flies Floats or Flirts Turn the Page written by David Alan Cohen and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-08-31 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A humorous and engaging account of the bored and dysfunctional very rich who subscribe to this lifestyle and the obvious pitfalls that ensue, as shared by the author, who has been an employee and confidant to these participants for decades. The flies, floats, and flirts lifestyle of Harp, who prefers to rent women with his famous tagline of how much, how long, and when do we get started, is compared to that of Herschel, a wealthy industrialist from the Great White North. They fly their own seaplanes, are married, with children and grandchildren, and addicted to male erectile dysfunction medicine. Herschel enjoys companionship, be it for a week or a month, introducing these women as the girlfriend, much to the chagrin of his suspicious wife, Sadie, who knows he is doing this but cant prove it. Harp cuts to the chase for sex, while Herschel entertains the women in his fleet of aircraft, hoping to score with the multi-mile-high club in his jet and savor a victory at sea in the seaplane. His family fears for their inheritance with each new girlfriend he acquires. The author has worked for other wealthy males who fly their own aircraft but can only flirt with women. Acting as tough alpha males within their own peer group, they are spineless at the thought of losing their fortunes should they ever get caught. Insanely jealous of Harp and Herschel, they lavish exorbitant sums of money on their aircraft and boats, which have become their mistresses.
Download or read book Turning Pages written by Sonia Sotomayor and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor tells her own story for young readers for the very first time! As the first Latina Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor has inspired young people around the world to reach for their dreams. But what inspired her? For young Sonia, the answer was books! They were her mirrors, her maps, her friends, and her teachers. They helped her to connect with her family in New York and in Puerto Rico, to deal with her diabetes diagnosis, to cope with her father's death, to uncover the secrets of the world, and to dream of a future for herself in which anything was possible. In Turning Pages, Justice Sotomayor shares that love of books with a new generation of readers, and inspires them to read and puzzle and dream for themselves. Accompanied by Lulu Delacre's vibrant art, this story of the Justice's life shows readers that the world is full of promise and possibility--all they need to do is turn the page. Download or read book Turning the Page written by Fiona M. Collins and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the nineteenth century, children's literature has been adapted for both the stage and the screen. As the twentieth century progressed, children's books provided the material for an increasing range of new media, from radio to computer games, from television to cinema blockbuster. Although such adaptations are now recognised as a significant part of the culture of childhood and popular culture in general, little has been written about the range of products and experiences that they generate. This book brings together writers whose work offers contrasting perspectives on the process of adaptation and the varying transformations - social, historical and ideological - that take place when a text moves from the page to another medium. Linking all these contributions is an interest in the changing definition of children's literature and its target audience within an increasingly media-rich society.

Book excerpt: Philip Nel takes a fascinating look into the key aspects of Seuss's career - his poetry, politics, art, marketing, and place in the popular imagination." "Nel argues convincingly that Dr. Seuss is one of the most influential poets in America. His nonsense verse, like that of Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear, has changed language itself, giving us new words like "nerd." And Seuss's famously loopy artistic style - what Nel terms an "energetic cartoon surrealism" - has been equally important, inspiring artists like filmmaker Tim Burton and illustrator Lane Smith. --from back cover

Download or read book Law in a Digital World written by M. Ethan Katsh and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1995-05-25 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world of law is a world of information. Rules, judgments, decisions, interpretations, and agreements all involve using and communicating information. Today, we are experiencing a significant transition, from letters fixed on paper to information stored electronically. The digital era, where information is created, stored, and communicated electronically, is quickly approaching, if not already here. The future of law will no longer be found in impressive buildings and leather-bound books, but in small pieces of silicon, in streams of light, and in millions of miles of wires and cable. It will be a world of new relationships and greater possibilities for individual and group communication, an environment where the value of information increases as it is shared. In Law in a Digital world, M. Ethan Katsh explores how these new technologies will alter one of our most central institutions. He considers the different ways in which people will not only electronically read and write, but also interact with our vast storehouses of legal knowledge and information. He envisions how sounds and pictures will play into the largely imageless print world of law, and looks at the future importance of graphic and nontextual communication. He explores how the flexible, personalized organization of data will transform the way we gather information, and whether information can or cannot be contained, raising questions of copyright and privacy. What happens to the law when information is more plentiful and accessible? What happens to those people who suddenly have access to information never before available? Does the use of information in a new form change the institution, the user, and those who come in contact with the user? And, what role does the lawyer play in all of this? For citizens, for lawyers, for all those who will be part of the digital world rushing toward us, Katsh answers these questions while considering the implications of this new era.
