Book When the Going Gets Tough

Download or read book When the Going Gets Tough written by Rev. Curry Pikkaart and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-08-03 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Was Joseph as a spoiled brat who loved to lord it over his brothers and pretty much got what he deserved? Was he a wise determined young man who did everything he could to end his familys sad history of deception and dysfunction? Was he simply as an innocent victim of the twists and turns of life? Were the events in his life chance happenings, so all he could do was make the best of it? Or were they results of his choices - or Gods choices - or both? Could it be that what happens to us is meant to affect what happens in us? Could it be that the events of our lives are invitations from God to enter into partnership with Him? Do our choices and Gods choices somehow work in partnership to move us through the tough times into the next chapter of our life story?

Book Stumbling Blocks To Stepping Stones

Download or read book Stumbling Blocks To Stepping Stones written by Jason Pfledderer and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2020-12-19 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a faithful follower of Christ and a man who wants everyone everywhere to know the glory of God and be saved - I want you to shine. I want you to shine brighter with the good news of Jesus Christ and how He's changed you. I want you to shine more brightly than you have every shone in your life. And I'm going to use a post-resurrection experience to accomplish this task. I want to do this in order to lead you on a path to spiritual renewal in your life. Throughout this book, I am chiefly going to use the post-resurrection experiences of one disciple. His name is Simon Peter. The reason I am going to use Simon Peter, later referred to as Peter, is because fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead, this man stood in Jerusalem and preached the most powerful message he had ever preached in his life and 3,000 people got saved. The Bible says that the power is in the gospel, and when someone speaks its truth, there is power that is coming from that person's voice. Just remember, the Holy Spirit is the one who regenerates people. He was at work in all those who heard the gospel that day. I know exactly what this is like, because I too have had the privilege of displaying His power, have you? It was the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that captivated and convicted the hearts and minds of those people in Jerusalem that day. So much so that they knew they needed to do something different - they needed to change.

Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book excerpt: How are we as Christians called to respond when cancer invades our lives, whether our own bodies or those of our friends and family? On the eve of his own cancer surgery, John Piper writes about cancer as an opportunity to glorify God. With pastoral sensitivity, compassion, and strength, Piper gently but firmly acknowledges that we can indeed waste our cancer when we don't see how it is God's good plan for us and a hope-filled path for making much of Jesus. Don't Waste Your Cancer is for anyone touched by a life-threatening illness. It first appeared as an appendix in Suffering and the Sovereignty of God. Repackaged and republished, it will serve as a hope-giving resource for healthcare workers, pastors, counselors, and others caring for those with cancer and other serious illnesses.
