The Earth says that God tells me to take care of the Indians on this earth; the Earth says to the Indians that stop on the Earth, feed them right. . . . God says feed the Indians upon the earth.” —Cayuse Chief Young Chief, Walla Walla Council of 1855 America has always been Indian land. Historically and culturally, Native Americans have had a strong appreciation for the land and what it offers. After continually struggling to hold on to their land and losing millions of acres, Native Americans still have a strong and ongoing relationship to their homelands. The land holds spiritual value and offers a way of life through fishing, farming, and hunting. It remains essential—not only for subsistence but also for cultural continuity—that Native Americans regain rights to land they were promised. Beth Rose Middleton examines new and innovative ideas concerning Native land conservancies, providing advice on land trusts, collaborations, and conservation groups. Increasingly, tribes are working to protect their access to culturally important lands by collaborating with Native and non- Native conservation movements. By using private conservation partnerships to reacquire lost land, tribes can ensure the health and sustainability of vital natural resources. In particular, tribal governments are using conservation easements and land trusts to reclaim rights to lost acreage. Through the use of these and other private conservation tools, tribes are able to protect or in some cases buy back the land that was never sold but rather was taken from them. Trust in the Land sets into motion a new wave of ideas concerning land conservation. This informative book will appeal to Native and non-Native individuals and organizations interested in protecting the land as well as environmentalists and government agencies.

Book excerpt: What happens to the Responsorial Psalm in the Sunday liturgy? How can it help us pray the Sunday readings? How can it help in planning the liturgy? The Responsorial Psalm is the most neglected part of the Liturgy of the Word, yet it can be the key to all the rest. Its intent is to help bring the message of the other readings into our lives. This book addresses the riches of the Responsorial Psalm for every Sunday of the three-year cycle. It explains the psalm genre, offers exposition on the meaning and beauty of the psalm itself, and comments on the relationship of the Responsorial Psalm to the other readings. It is the book for anyone who wants to understand and appreciate the Sunday readings -- preachers, catechists, liturgists and all the people in the pews.

Book Eerdmans Commentary on the Bible Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs

This book was released on 2003-11-19 with total page 1672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extract from the Eerdmans Commentary on the Bible provides Jarik and Rogerson’s introduction to and concise commentary on Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs. The Eerdmans Commentary on the Bible presents, in nontechnical language, the best of modern scholarship on each book of the Bible, including the Apocrypha. Reader-friendly commentary complements succinct summaries of each section of the text and will be valuable to scholars, students, and general readers. Rather than attempt a verse-by-verse analysis, these volumes work from larger sense units, highlighting the place of each passage within the overarching biblical story. Commentators focus on the genre of each text—parable, prophetic oracle, legal code, and so on—interpreting within the historical and literary context. The volumes also address major issues within each biblical book—including the range of possible interpretations—and refer readers to the best resources for further discussions.

Book How Can I Worship You If I Can t Trust You

Download or read book How Can I Worship You If I Can t Trust You written by Lamont Mclaurin and published by Lamont Mclaurin. This book was released on 2020-07-25 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every human on the planet earth shares one common thread, and that is the desire to Worship something. Whether it is the God of the Bible, the Koran, or be it the sun, moon, stars, ocean, universe, statues, energy, ancestors, or the like, that particular entity must be held accountable for human suffering and make logical sense out of life. ‘How Can I Worship You If I Can’t Trust You’ is a compilation of 30 short chapters. They read as a courtroom drama, with theologian Lamont McLaurin indicting the GOD of the universe in a multi-count indictment, in front of a jury pool of 12 atheists and an agnostic Judge. This manuscript confronts the Creator of heaven and earth with a litany of daunting questions that appear to be of blasphemous nature, that religious leaders and most humans dare to inquire of God. The results of this 21st Century Percocet will astonish the average reader.
