Brunsdon provides a detailed analysis of a selection of films, exploring their contribution to the cinematic geography of London, and showing the ways in which feature films have responded to, and created, changing views of the city. She traces London's transformation from imperial capital to global city through the different ways in which the local is imagined in films ranging from Ealing comedies to Pressure (1974), as well as through the shifting imagery of the River Thames and the Docks. She addresses the role of cinematic genres such as horror and film noir in the constitution of the cinematic city, as well as the recurrence of figures such as the cockney, the gangster and the housewife. Challenging the view that London is not a particularly cinematic city, Brunsdon demonstrates that many London-set films offer their own meditation on the complex relationships between the cinema and the city.

This notion of reversal plays out in the construction of the poems where, unlike so many of her contemporaries who come to poetry through prose techniques, Elliott's voice emerges through a complex shifting of phrase and syntax between lines or in mid-phrase. We don't, for example, get a straight-forward story of what caused the trauma of, say, cancer or abuse; rather, we hear impressions, half-formed ideas that rise and fall in the speaker's voice as it moves through the nature of the trauma, and experience the effects of the disorder that is the center of our everyday relationships through speech. The phrase "When I was a wave" recurs throughout the book in unpredictable places, sometimes as a title, sometimes in the middle of a poem, each time telling a different story about expectation, intimacy, and the risk inherent in any relationship. Increased body mass is associated with an increased incidence of a wide range of medical problems affecting virtually every organ system. Each five-point increase in BMI over 25 kg/m2 is associated with a 30% increase in mortality. Furthermore, obesity also significantly affects quality of life, social functioning, and monetary health. The management of obesity is complex, often requiring an amalgamation of medical, dietary and psychological regimens to successfully tackle this multidimensional disease. Respectively, bariatric surgery has been utilized as a modality to manage morbid obesity and meta-analyses have demonstrated the efficacy of bariatric surgery in treating severe obesity and its associated co-morbidities. An effect of this high utility benefit is reflected in an exponential increase in the the number of bariatric operations performed in the United States (an 804 percent increase from 1998 to 2004. Hence, there are thousands of individuals yearly who have undergone or are undergoing bariatric surgery to manage morbid obesity. This book, is intended to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the management of the bariatric surgical patient.
