Book Tropospheric Stratospheric Turbulence and Vertical Diffusivities

Download or read book Tropospheric Stratospheric Turbulence and Vertical Diffusivities written by S. P. Zimmerman and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The determination of winds and temperature by rawinsonde allows us to calculate the Richardson number, a measure of atmospheric instability. From this, we can then determine the turbulent atmospheric parameters, diffusivity (K), rate of heat deposition (epsilon), and the vertical turbulent intensity (w2). Comparison of these data, for the spring periods, with contours of residual stratospheric radioactivity demonstrate that, at the tropopause, the isocountours of turbulent diffusivity accurately follow the isodensity contours of the residual radioactivity. We also demonstrate that the rapid cessation of the turbulent diffusivity accurately predicts the level of the tropopause. (Author).

Download or read book Tropospheric Processes Observations and Interpretation written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three aspects of tropospheric chemical processes imposed by manmade emission of source gases will be discussed. First, the implications for the OH distribution and thereby for the lifetime of source gases which are controlled by reactions with OH in the troposphere (e.g., CH4 and HCFC) are investigated. This is of importance for stratosphere ozone and climate. Second, we will study the impact of source gas emission on tropospheric ozone and discuss the possibility to estimate indirect climate effects from the changes in ozone and other climate gases. Finally, the degradation of HFC and HCFC's is discussed. Isaksen, Ivar S. A. and Fuglestvedt, J. Book Climate Change from the Streets

Download or read book Climate Change from the Streets written by Michael Méndez and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An urgent and timely story of the contentious politics of incorporating environmental justice into global climate change policy Although the science of climate change is clear, policy decisions about how to respond to its effects remain contentious. Even when such decisions claim to be guided by objective knowledge, they are made and implemented through political institutions and relationships—and all the competing interests and power struggles that this implies. Michael Méndez tells a timely story of people, place, and power in the context of climate change and inequality. He explores the perspectives and influence low‑income people of color bring to their advocacy work on climate change. In California, activist groups have galvanized behind issues such as air pollution, poverty alleviation, and green jobs to advance equitable climate solutions at the local, state, and global levels. Arguing that environmental protection and improving public health are inextricably linked, Mendez contends that we must incorporate local knowledge, culture, and history into policymaking to fully address the global complexities of climate change and the real threats facing our local communities.

Book excerpt: A mommy blogger gone bad… Jess McAdams dotes on her four children and gives advice and suggestions to parents all around the world. No one would ever question her love and devotion to her children, let alone suspect her of murdering one. But Alex Mercer does. Alex has plenty of experience investigating crimes involving missing kids. So when he senses something is wrong, he trusts his instincts. The only problem is, he’s a newly deputized officer of the law. If he’s wrong about Jess, he’ll destroy his career before it gets off the ground. He receives a tip that Jess has suddenly stopped posting about one of her children. It’s almost as if he never existed, except her old blog posts show otherwise. The deeper Alex digs, the more twisted and sinister things begin to look. His precinct’s resources would be invaluable to his investigation, but his commanding officer isn’t convinced the case is local and turns him down. And Alex doesn’t have the evidence to sway his captain—yet. His only chance at finding the proof he needs is by using the resources he’s been denied. But Alex will stop at nothing until he finds the mommy blogger and saves the children he knows are in danger—even at the risk of losing his dream job—because he knows he’s right. And with young lives on the line, there’s a lot more at stake than his career.

Book excerpt: This book is an in-depth analysis of three of the most crucial years in twentieth-century Italian history, the years 1943-46. After more than two decades of a Fascist regime and a disastrous war experience during which Italy changed sides, these years saw the laying of the political and cultural foundations for what has since become known as Italy's First Republic. Drawing on texts from the literature, film, journalism, and political debate of the period, Antifascisms offers a thorough survey of the personalities and positions that informed the decisions taken in this crucial phase of modern Italian history.
