Book Alexandra

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lycophron
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2015
  • ISBN : 019957670X
  • Pages : 651 pages

Download or read book Alexandra written by Lycophron and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Alexandra attributed to Lykophron is a minor poetic masterpiece. At 1474 lines, it is one of the most important and notoriously difficult Greek poems dating from the Hellenistic period (most likely the early second century BC). Most of the poem purports to be a prophecy by the mythical Trojan princess, Kassandra, the most beautiful of the daughters of King Priam, and her prophecy ranges from the Trojan War to the Roman defeat of Macedon in 197 BC, which took place in the poet's own time. The poem's importance arises from the light which it sheds on Greek religion (in particular the role of women), on foundation myths and myths of colonial identity, and on local - especially Italian - cults and cult places. The difficulty of the poem stems from its unusual vocabulary - many words of ancient Greek are found only in this poem - and the riddling and indirect way in which most of the many mythological characters are introduced. As well as providing the Greek text in full and its English translation, this volume provides the first ever full-length commentary in English on the poem.

Because the largest of these beings exist in the oceans, most people are not aware that smaller versions of the merfolk live in inland rivers, streams, marshes, and waterfalls. Like many other magical beings, the merfolk travel easily between this world and the astral planes, appearing only to those who truly seek to know them and learn their ancient powers. Magickal Mermaids and Water Creatures bring these fabled creatures out of the storybooks and into real life through the studies of D. J. Conway. Within the pages you will learn: The secret powers of mermaids and mermen Different water creatures and where you can find them How to entice water folk for friendship and health How to avoid dangerous water folk This book was originally published in 2008. Book Elemental Magick

Download or read book Elemental Magick written by D. J. Conway and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2020-06-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconnect with the natural world using the magick of the five elements of earth, air, water, fire, and spirit—written by one of the grand dames of witchcraft and magick. For more than a thousand years, alchemists and magicians have worked with the four elements of the universe. While most spiritual seekers have a basic knowledge of these four elements, and the more nebulous fifth element, spirit, few realize that the energies of the elements are a key to their magical practice. Elemental Magick offers readers insight into the inner teachings of the elements. Author D. J. Conway explains in depth the forces behind the elements and how they provide a framework for literally everything in the universe. She also explains the all-important and powerful element of spirit that belongs to each of the other elements and how these intimate connections allow the magickal energy to flow in a continuous circle of existence. By learning how to work with and balance the elements and their spirits, readers will better understand the larger process of balancing one’s life with the world around them.
