Download or read book Swinglines written by Fernando Benadon and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-06-07 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The way rhythm is taught in Western classrooms and music lessons is rooted in a centuries-old European approach that favors metric levels within a grand symmetrical grid. Swinglines encourages readers to experience rhythms, even gridded ones, as freewheeling affairs irrespective of the metric hierarchy. It shows that rhythms traditionally framed as "deviations" and "non-isochronous" have their own identities. They are coherent products of precise musical thought and action. Rather than situating them in the neither-here-nor-there, author Fernando Benadon takes a more inclusive view, one where isochrony and metric grids are shown as particular cases within the universe of musical time.
Download or read book The Moscow Puzzles written by Boris A. Kordemsky and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2014-12-16 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is, quite simply, the best and most popular puzzle book ever published in the Soviet Union. Since its first appearance in 1956 there have been eight editions as well as translations from the original Russian into Ukrainian, Estonian, Lettish, and Lithuanian. Almost a million copies of the Russian version alone have been sold. Part of the reason for the book's success is its marvelously varied assortment of brainteasers ranging from simple "catch" riddles to difficult problems (none, however, requiring advanced mathematics). Many of the puzzles will be new to Western readers, while some familiar problems have been clothed in new forms. Often the puzzles are presented in the form of charming stories that provide non-Russian readers with valuable insights into contemporary Russian life and customs. In addition, Martin Gardner, former editor of the Mathematical Games Department, Scientific American, has clarified and simplified the book to make it as easy as possible for an English-reading public to understand and enjoy. He has been careful, moreover, to retain nearly all the freshness, warmth, and humor of the original. Lavishly illustrated with over 400 clear diagrams and amusing sketches, this inexpensive edition of the first English translation will offer weeks or even months of stimulating entertainment. It belongs in the library of every puzzlist or lover of recreational mathematics.

Download or read book Looking at Numbers written by Tom Johnson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Galileo Galilei said he was “reading the book of nature” as he observed pendulums swinging, but he might also simply have tried to draw the numbers themselves as they fall into networks of permutations or form loops that synchronize at different speeds, or attach themselves to balls passing in and out of the hands of good jugglers. Numbers are, after all, a part of nature. As such, looking at and thinking about them is a way of understanding our relationship to nature. But when we do so in a technical, professional way, we tend to overlook their basic attributes, the things we can understand by simply “looking at numbers.” Tom Johnson is a composer who uses logic and mathematical models, such as combinatorics of numbers, in his music. The patterns he finds while “looking at numbers” can also be explored in drawings. This book focuses on such drawings, their beauty and their mathematical meaning. The accompanying comments were written in collaboration with the mathematician Franck Jedrzejewski.
Download or read book Model making of warships written by Günther Slansky and published by Verlag für Technik und Handwerk. This book was released on with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many people interested in model building, replicas of warships are among the absolute highlights. This has to do with the special technology of the prototypes and above all with one thing: the multitude of fine details that have to be built in such models. Good research and a fine working method are indispensable. In this book, Günther Slansky shows that expensive workshop equipment is not always necessary. Using a German torpedo boat as an example, the "old school" model builder describes how it is possible to build a detailed warship model according to plan using simple tools. Beginners can thus benefit from his enormous wealth of experience and realise their dream of building a model of a warship. From the content: • Selection of the model • Building documents • The building concept • Workshop and tools • Building and auxiliary material • Thoughts on the building process • Hull construction • Ship technical equipment • Weaponry equipment • Life-saving equipment • Superstructures and deckhouses • Testing

Download or read book Some Results on Neutrosophic Triplet Group and Their Applications written by Tèmítópé Gbóláhàn Jaíyéolá and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This article is based on new developments on a neutrosophic triplet group (NTG) and applications earlier introduced in 2016 by Smarandache and Ali. NTG sprang up from neutrosophic triplet set X: a collection of triplets (b, neut(b), anti(b)) for an b ∈ X that obeys certain axioms (existence of neutral(s) and opposite(s)). Some results that are true in classical groups were investigated in NTG and were shown to be either universally true in NTG or true in some peculiar types of NTG. Distinguishing features between an NTG and some other algebraic structures such as: generalized group (GG), quasigroup, loop and group were investigated. Some neutrosophic triplet subgroups (NTSGs) of a neutrosophic triplet group were studied. Applications of the neutrosophic triplet set, and our results on NTG in relation to management and sports, are highlighted and discussed.
