Book excerpt: As both chemist and priest your scribe believes that the current gap between science and religion can be bridged largely by revelation. Revelation is a select part of religion, often beyond the ken or competence of qualified science. Types of revelation comprise the manifest supernatural and prophecy, fulfilled prophecy supporting what is yet to be fulfilled. The book offers answers and asks a variety of questions. This book is written in four sections, each with chapter-like and numbered subsections: Section 1 the most scriptural and salvational Section 2 the most prophetic or revelatory Section 3 the most scientific and integrative knowledge Section 4 the most semantic and hypothetic Section 1 Scripture, Old and New Testament, appears to be a rich source of revelation and other reliable spiritual reality. Its integrity distinguishes divine and human reporting, also religion versus irreligion. Jesus' early advent fulfilled dozens of Old Testament prophecies; divine evidence for the reliability of its revelation. Scripture reveals that Jesus of Nazareth walked among us, both man and God. Section 2 Section 2 comprise a commentary upon the Revelation to John. The prophecy concentrated therein is mysterious in part yet relatively ordered and culminating. It helps to organize other prophecy revealed in Scripture. And it serves to guide our on-going participation with the ascended Christ as Lord. Prophecy reveals that God has operated mightily in and on history, that he has revealed essential parts of his plan and care for mankind. Section 3 Without religion, science, particularly inanimate science, tends to support determinism, also a relatively rigid causation or rationalism. Science develops knowledge more than understanding. Section 3 attempts to assemble salient science together with a minor proportion of related hypotheses. Your scribe believes that God's concern and involvement and control of life is more intimate and profound than most science and philosophy has indicated. Section 4 The relatively hypothetic Section 4 comprises much supposition, some semantically treated. Suppositions are offered concerning material or systematic structures for said living sub matter in body, mind and soul. Life after first death is a gift from the soul's Creator. Spirits just and unjust await resurrection in the spirit, not in the flesh, not in reincarnation. Tthe soul is foundational to theology and tends to respond to spiritual reality, to living sub matter, particularly to God and other souls.

  • Author : Dave Herr

Download or read book Before Honor written by Dave Herr and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a day when the church's voice is increasingly silenced by the world's opposition, a call to stand for the good fight of faith must be made. But in God's call to His people, He asks them to stand up by first kneeling down. In an address to Solomon, God said: "If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves...then will I hear from Heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land." The first motion toward the awesome, sovereign God is downward, in humility. The title of the book, Before Honor, is taken from a verse from Solomon's Proverbs: "Before honor is humility." Before a hearing from heaven and preceding any honor to God or from Him is humility. The author of the book confirms this principle of humility with a plethora of Biblical evidence. Using a Biblical overview, the writer demonstrates the continuity of the theme from Genesis to Revelation, thus supporting the claim that humility is a fundamental attribute of God and the only attitude a follower can have that exalts and glorifies Christ. Though pride, the inverse of humility, is a destructive force, humility is a beneficent one. Humility is the hope of revival for all God's people.

Book excerpt: Controversy about the Catholic priesthood is nothing new. Just like laity, priests (including bishops and popes) have always been sinners. Some priests, like some laity, have caused grave scandal throughout the 2000-year history of the Church. Two questions arise from this reality. Why did Jesus Christ establish a ministerial priesthood for his Church, if the priesthood would sometimes cause scandal--what did he intend for the priesthood? Second, what has the Catholic Church in past times done about scandal in the priesthood--how has the Church corrected its priests and encouraged priests to lead lives of holiness? Amidst the noisy din of talking heads and self-proclaimed experts, this book offers solid warnings and directions about the priesthood from 15 saints of the past two millennia. On the Priesthood serves as a readable guide for priests, seminarians, and educated readers seeking to learn more about the simultaneous unworthiness and dignity of the priesthood. Always challenging and penetrating, the selections unite around one key point; the need for holiness.

Book The Treasure of the Word

  • Publisher : iUniverse
  • Release : 2016-07-25
  • ISBN : 1491767987
  • Pages : 339 pages

Download or read book The Treasure of the Word written by Isidore Okwudili Igwegbe and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2016-07-25 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Treasure of the Word: Commentary on Biblical Readings for Sundays, Feast Days, and Solemnities, Cycle C walks the reader through the lectionarys year of readings, beginning with Advent, the first season of the liturgical year. In his reflections on the passages appointed for each Sunday, feast day, and solemnity, Rev. Fr Isidore Okwudili Igwegbe highlights the major themes of the selections. Growing out of his own prayerful study of the readings, he crafts commentaries that enable Christians, whether they are priests, religious, or laity, to encounter prayerfully the Scriptures and the God who speaks through them. The Treasure of the Word stands in a long Catholic tradition of bringing the Scriptures and daily life into conversation. Beyond that, as Rev. Fr Dr Cornelius A. Omeike observes in his foreword, To be closer to Christ, we ought to reflect profoundly on the Word of God; this book provides exactly that. Each of the commentaries begins by listing the day or occasion, a summary of the main message of the lectionarys chosen readings, and the references for the four appointed readings. The commentary then follows, discussing the readings and their intent, while avoiding technical jargon and arcane terms. Your calling may have led you to become a priest, to join a religious community, or to serve in the world as a member of the laity. Regardless, you will find in The Treasure of the Word a work that offers guidance and inspiration seasoned by experience and empowered by the Spirit.
