Download or read book Main Themes in the Debate Over Property Rights written by James W. Ely and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 1997 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When BBC producer Jan Harding arrives at the small idyllic Suffolk village to begin production of the Palm Sunday broadcast of Songs of Praise--a television program featuring hymns sung by real congregations--she finds out that the vicar, Clive Linton, is hopelessly absent-minded and not impressed that the top BBC religious program chose to come to his church. His practical wife, Helen, however, gets on well with the television team--perhaps a little too well, where the charming, enigmatic rigger Michael is concerned. Soon the whole village gets involved. Bunty Maddocks, queen of every local committee, plots to get around the ban on church flowers during Lent; retired, lonely accountant Jack Diggens finds purpose, faith, and friendship as he plans tickets and seating; teenage soloist Anna surprises herself with her success; and obstructive Charles, chairman of the Parish Council, resents the enthusiasm of other villagers--including his wife, Betty. This delightful story, full of memorable characters and inspiring music, will make you laugh and cry and gives a fascinating insight into the making of a major television broadcast. "Very readable. . . . Warm and witty" --Woman's Weekly "A gripping story which touches some very basic emotions. . . . Captures wonderfully the two extremes of village life. . . . This is very powerful stuff." --Barbara Erskine "Very moving, very powerful intimate moments. . . . I really did enjoy it." --Lynn Parson, BBC Radio 2 "The characters and situations were so good that I got lost in the book. All I can say is, well done, Pam " --The Lincolnshire Echo

Download or read book Cliometrics as Economics Imperialism Across the Watershed written by Benjamin Fine and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-11-27 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Cliometrics as Economics Imperialism, Ben Fine traces the cliometric revolution, from before its emergence through three phases of the new, the newer and the newest economic history. These phases are shown to correspond to those of “economics imperialism”, the colonisation of topics and fields by mainstream economics, moving successively through as if there were perfectly working markets, as if imperfectly working markets, and these combined plus arbitrary inclusion of other variables. The text draws upon case studies, for example of the putative eighteenth-century consumer revolution, Douglass North, path dependence, and the British coal industry, and through exposing the reduction of economic theory and economic history deployed within them and giving rise to a corresponding reduction in the presence of the social, the historical and political economy.

Download or read book Faith Health and Healing in African American Life written by Stephanie Y. Mitchem and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2008-08-30 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Black Americans are more likely than Whites to die of cancer and heart disease, more likely to get diabetes and asthma, and less likely to get preventive care and screening. Some of this greater morbidity results from education, income level, and environment as well as access to health care. But the traditional medical model does not always allow for a more holistic approach that takes into account the body, the mind, the spirit, the family, and the community. This book offers a better understanding of the varieties of religiously-based approaches to healing and alternative models of healing and health found in Black communities in the United States. Contributors address the communal aspects of faith and health and explore the contexts in which individuals make choices about their health, the roles that institutions play in shaping these decisions, and the practices individuals engage in seeking better health or coping with the health they have. By paying attention to the role of faith, spirit, and health, this book offers a fuller sense of the varieties of ways Black health and health care are perceived and addressed from an inter-religious perspective. Community and religion-based initiatives have emerged as one key way to address the health challenges found in the African American community. In cities such as Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, and Oakland, residents organize exercise groups, teach one another how to cook with healthy ingredients, and encourage neighbors to get regular checkups. Churches have become key sites for health education, screening, and testing. Another set of responses to the challenge of Black health and healthcare in the United States comes from those who emphasize the body as a wholebody, mind, soul, and spirit, often drawing on religious traditions such as Islam and African-based religions such as Spiritism, Santeria, Vodun (aka Voodoo), Candomblé, and others. Understanding the issues and the various approaches is essential to combating the problems, and this unique volume sheds light on areas often overlooked when considering the issues.

Download or read book Basics of the International System of Customs and Tariffs written by G. Gregory Letterman and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-05-09 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although customs and tariffs operate from a national perspective, it is the overarching international structure of classification, valuation, etc. that is imposed upon the national schemes that provide international customs and tariffs with a comprehensible global consistency whose understanding is of great importance for those dealing in international commerce. It is this global scheme of customs and tariffs laws and practices that the author describes so thoroughly and well. Having mapped out for the reader that global scheme, he then describes the many types of variances and exemptions from the global scheme that must be understood as well. Basic Guide to International Customs and Tariffs provides a highly readable description of its subject and a unique global perspective not encountered in other books dealing with the same topic. Published under the Transnational Publishers imprint.
Download or read book The Return of the American Revolutionary written by Dylan S. Mellor and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-03-12 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the sequel to the Dark Order of the Elite Corporatist rule of tyranny. The story moves toward the continue rebellion organized by the political movement of John Hamilton the founder of the Revolutionary party. The collaboration between the executive branch of government and the revolutionary party manifests with the cooperation with the Anarchist's of the outer sector and the loyalists of the President Clifford Mathews. The reforms to rebuild the war torn nation begins with the push for new reforms that lift the tyrannical system of the order Elite. The battle continues with the Trilateral corporation and the International banking system plot to financially sabotage the Nation into economical collapse. The new introduction to new hero's arise, who all are related to our forefathers by lineage. The new hero's are recruited to help reform the economical, political, and social system that is more toward the original political and economical system conducive to the Constitution. The movement toward a creation of a National owned bank controlled by a democratic government responsible to the citizens of the Republic by democratic process becomes part of the reform against the corrupt system of the I.B.S. Banking and the trilateral corporation's monetarism and economic system. The model used to reform and rebuild a new Nation into a new age of Renaissance is the reforms of the New deal during the F.D.R. Era after the stock market crash and depression of the late twenties and early thirties. The move toward integration with the Anarchist back into the main sector,to restore civil and humane order. ...becomes part of the reforms. The reflection of the scars inflicted on the Anarchist's in the outer sector restores some of the historical injustices of our national history from the native Americans to the African Americans, who have suffered from brutal oppression and genocide much like the Anarchist's in the outer sector. The fight for freedom, liberty, and equality continues as the forces of the oligarchy use every bit of the power to dismantle the reforms and revolutionary movement to further there control on society nationally and internationally.
