Book The Triads of Ireland

Download or read book The Triads of Ireland written by Various and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-08-10 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of the Irish Triad. It is but a small portion of the large number of triads scattered throughout early Irish literature that has been brought together under the title of Trecheng breth Féne, i.e., literally 'a triadic arrangement of the sayings of Irishmen.' I first drew attention to the existence of Irish triads in a note on Irish proverbs in my edition of the Battle of Ventry, where a few will be found quoted. A complete collection of them would fill a small volume, especially if it were to include those still current among the people of Ireland, both among Gaelic and English speakers. I must content myself here with giving a few specimens taken at random from my own collections.

Book Welsh English English Welsh Dictionary Phrasebook

Download or read book Welsh English English Welsh Dictionary Phrasebook written by Heini Gruffudd and published by Hippocrene Books. This book was released on 2005 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the dominance of English in Wales, the Welsh language is very much alive. It is used in conversations every day, in public bodies, in official documents, on road signs, and, increasingly, is required in primary school education. Around half a million people speak Welsh fluently in Wales today, while many more have some knowledge of the language. The phrasebook includes situations that one is likely to encounter in Wales, and the 6,000-word, two-way dictionary gives essential vocabulary words for basic comprehension. The grammar section enables users to form simple sentences, while a common-sense pronunciation guide provides a glimpse of the complex phonetic structure of Welsh. Information about Welsh culture and life complete the work.

Book Irish Love

  • Author : Andrew M. Greeley
  • Publisher : Macmillan + ORM
  • Release : 2002-03-15
  • ISBN : 1429974532
  • Pages : 365 pages

Download or read book Irish Love written by Andrew M. Greeley and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2002-03-15 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuing the enchanting chronicles of the fabulous Nuala Anne McGrail and her spear-carrying husband Dermot, bestselling author Andrew M. Greeley takes them once again to Ireland for another thrill-packed adventure. Back on the Emerald Isle, Nuala and Dermot soon get the feeling that someone is out to get them. They find themselves dodging multiple explosions, and someone starts shooting at Nuala while she is water-skiing in the cold Atlantic. Meanwhile, the handsome parish priest, Father Jack, has given Dermot the diary of a young Chicago newspaperman. Written in the year 1882, the diary tells in horrendous detail an intriguing story of a mass murder and a trumped-up trial in which one of Ireland's greatest heroes was accused of the murders without a shred of evidence. These two stories, ancient and modern, soon get mixed up, and they make for an utterly fascinating tale of murder, betrayal, and redemption with Nuala and her magical powers at the center of it all. Andrew Greeley not only tells us a riveting tale of adventure and derring-do, he gives us a picture of modern-day prosperous Ireland and the engaging and, of course, sometimes villainous people who live there.
