La fréquence, le type et les conséquences de ces traumas justifieraient pourtant une utilisation plus répandue d'un protège-dents adapté, de préférence réalisé sur mesure chez un dentiste. Matériel et méthode : Une étude transversale par auto-questionnaire a été menée auprès de jeunes basketteurs en Loire-Atlantique. Résultats : L'étude a mis en évidence une fréquence non négligeable de traumas des tissus mous et durs pouvant être diminués ou évités par le port d'une protection intra-orale d'une part, et le faible taux de port de protège-dents par les basketteurs d'autre part. Conclusion : Il serait utile de développer la prévention des traumas oro-faciaux dans le milieu du basket-ball, en insistant sur la nécessité de porter une protection intra-orale dans cette activité.
