Book Death and Desire in Hegel Heidegger and Deleuze

Download or read book Death and Desire in Hegel Heidegger and Deleuze written by Brent Adkins and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2007-11-22 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite what its title might suggest, Death and Desire is a meditation on life. Using the texts of Hegel, Heidegger, and Deleuze, the author argues that philosophy has been dominated by a form of thought that focuses exclusively on death. The importance of Death and Desire lies in its refusal of the morbidity of much contemporary philosophy. Its uniqueness lies in placing Hegel, Heidegger, and Deleuze in conversation. Its usefulness lies in the clarity with which it articulates and compares these very diverse thinkers.

Book The Problem of Distraction

Download or read book The Problem of Distraction written by Paul North and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2011-10-19 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in an age of distraction. Contemporary analyses of culture, politics, techno-science, and psychology insist on this. They often suggest remedies for it, or ways to capitalize on it. Yet they almost never investigate the meaning and history of distraction itself. This book corrects this lack of attention. It inquires into the effects of distraction, defined not as the opposite of attention, but as truly discontinuous intellect. Human being has to be reconceived, according to this argument, not as quintessentially thought-bearing, but as subject to repeated, causeless blackouts of mind. The Problem of Distraction presents the first genealogy of the concept from Aristotle to the largely forgotten, early twentieth-century efforts by Kafka, Heidegger, and Benjamin to revolutionize the humanities by means of distraction. Further, the book makes the case that our present troubles cannot be solved by recovering or enhancing attention. Not-always-thinking beings are beset by radical breaks in their experience, but in this way they are also receptive to what has not and cannot yet be called experience.

Book Historical Dictionary of Heidegger s Philosophy

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Heidegger s Philosophy written by Frank Schalow and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2010-08-20 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the time Martin Heidegger passed away on May 26th, 1976, he had become the most important and controversial philosopher of his age. While many of his former students had become important philosophers and thinkers in their own right, Heidegger also inspired countless others, like Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, and Jean-Paul Sartre. The second edition of the Historical Dictionary of Heidegger's Philosophy is an historical perspective on the development of Heidegger's thought in all its nuances and facets. Schalow and Denker cast light on the historical influences that shaped the thinker and his time through a chronology; an introductory essay; a bibliography; appendixes that include German and Greek to English glossaries of terms and a complete listing of Heidegger's writings, lectures, courses, and seminars; and a cross-referenced dictionary section offering over 600 entries on concepts, people, works, and technical terms. This volume is an invaluable resource for student and scholar alike.

Book Margins of Phenomenology

Download or read book Margins of Phenomenology written by Petr Kouba and published by Verlag Traugott Bautz. This book was released on with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aus dem Klappentext The studies of this book reflect, from various perspectives, upon a set of phenomenological issues and confront them with positions beyond the framework of phenomenology. A common thread running through is their contemplation of the differences between phenomenology and philosophy, which transcends phenomenological tradition by means of non-phenomenological approaches. Phenomenological themes like worldhood, life, individuality, temporality, corporality, emotionality, disease, suffering and our relationships with others are considered from both phenomenological stances and non-phenomenological perspectives that are mainly opened by philosophical concepts of Deleuze and Guattari. The Author:Petr Kouba studied philosophy at Charles University in Prague. He continued his studies at Universität Zurich, Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and Université de Lausanne. Then he lectured philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. At present he holds a position of Research Fellow at the Institute of Philosophy, Czech Academy of Sciences. He is an author of the Phenomenon of Mental Disorder. Perspectives of Heidegger´s Thought in Psychopathology (2012 in German, and 2015 in English). Book Existence Culture and Persons

Download or read book Existence Culture and Persons written by Arkadiusz Chrudzimski and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-05-02 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roman Ingarden (1893-1970) belonged to those phenomenologists who never accepted Husserl's transcendental idealism. He devoted a great part of his intellectual energy to the "preparatory" analytical studies in which he hoped to develop an ontological framework suitable for an ultimate refutation of Husserl's idealistic doctrine. In these works we find a rich arsenal of ontological tools which is interesting even for those philosophers who are not interested in the subtleties of the Husserlian tradition or esoteric dialectics of the idealism / realism debate. Contributors: Arkadiusz Chrudzimski (Szczecin and Salzburg), Gregor Haefliger (Fribourg), Guido Küng (Fribourg), Jeff Mitscherling (Guelph), Andrzej Póltawski (Cracow), Peter Simons (Leeds), Edward Swiderski (Fribourg), Amie L. Thomasson (Miami), Daniel von Wachter (Munich).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
