Book Transmutation Operators and Applications

Download or read book Transmutation Operators and Applications written by Vladislav V. Kravchenko and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-11 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transmutation operators in differential equations and spectral theory can be used to reveal the relations between different problems, and often make it possible to transform difficult problems into easier ones. Accordingly, they represent an important mathematical tool in the theory of inverse and scattering problems, of ordinary and partial differential equations, integral transforms and equations, special functions, harmonic analysis, potential theory, and generalized analytic functions. This volume explores recent advances in the construction and applications of transmutation operators, while also sharing some interesting historical notes on the subject.

Many of them are written by participants of the International workshop “Analysis, Operator Theory, and Mathematical Physics” (Ixtapa, Mexico, January 23–27, 2012) having a long history of scientific collaboration with Vladimir Rabinovich, and are partially based on the talks presented there. The volume will be of great interest to researchers and graduate students in differential equations, operator theory, functional and harmonic analysis, and mathematical physics.

Book Complex Methods for Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Complex Methods for Partial Differential Equations written by Heinrich Begehr and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of manscripts mainly originating from talks and lectures given at the Workshop on Recent Trends in Complex Methods for Par tial Differential Equations held from July 6 to 10, 1998 at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, sponsored by The Scientific and Tech nical Research Council of Turkey and the Middle East Technical University. This workshop is a continuation oftwo workshops from 1988 and 1993 at the In ternational Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy entitled Functional analytic Methods in Complex Analysis and Applications to Partial Differential Equations. Since classical complex analysis of one and several variables has a long tra dition it is of high level. But most of its basic problems are solved nowadays so that within the last few decades it has lost more and more attention. The area of complex and functional analytic methods in partial differential equations, however, is still a growing and flourishing field, in particular as these methods are not only applied. Whithin the framework of holomorphic functions but are also combined with properties of generalized analytic functions. This can be seen by the many books which recently were published in this field and also by the proceedings in this ISAAC series and the ISAAC congresses and workshops.

Book Differential Equations

Download or read book Differential Equations written by Robert P. Gilbert and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illustrates how MAPLE can be used to supplement a standard, elementary text in ordinary and partial differential equation. MAPLE is used with several purposes in mind. The authors are firm believers in the teaching of mathematics as an experimental science where the student does numerous calculations and then synthesizes these experiments into a general theory. Projects based on the concept of writing generic programs test a student's understanding of the theoretical material of the course. A student who can solve a general problem certainly can solve a specialized problem. The authors show MAPLE has a built-in program for doing these problems. While it is important for the student to learn MAPLEŚ in built programs, using these alone removes the student from the conceptual nature of differential equations. The goal of the book is to teach the students enough about the computer algebra system MAPLE so that it can be used in an investigative way. The investigative materials which are present in the book are done in desk calculator mode DCM, that is the calculations are in the order command line followed by output line. Frequently, this approach eventually leads to a program or procedure in MAPLE designated by proc and completed by end proc. This book was developed through ten years of instruction in the differential equations course. Table of Contents 1. Introduction to the Maple DEtools 2. First-order Differential Equations 3. Numerical Methods for First Order Equations 4. The Theory of Second Order Differential Equations with Con- 5. Applications of Second Order Linear Equations 6. Two-Point Boundary Value Problems, Catalytic Reactors and 7. Eigenvalue Problems 8. Power Series Methods for Solving Differential Equations 9. Nonlinear Autonomous Systems 10. Book Direct and Inverse Sturm Liouville Problems

Download or read book Direct and Inverse Sturm Liouville Problems written by Vladislav V. Kravchenko and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to the most recent developments in the theory and practice of direct and inverse Sturm-Liouville problems on finite and infinite intervals. A universal approach for practical solving of direct and inverse spectral and scattering problems is presented, based on the notion of transmutation (transformation) operators and their efficient construction. Analytical representations for solutions of Sturm-Liouville equations as well as for the integral kernels of the transmutation operators are derived in the form of functional series revealing interesting special features and lending themselves to direct and simple numerical solution of a wide variety of problems. The book is written for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as for mathematicians, physicists and engineers interested in direct and inverse spectral problems.

Book Topics in Soliton Theory

Download or read book Topics in Soliton Theory written by R.W. Carroll and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-11-26 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When soliton theory, based on water waves, plasmas, fiber optics etc., was developing in the 1960-1970 era it seemed that perhaps KdV (and a few other equations) were really rather special in the set of all interesting partial differential equations. As it turns out, although integrable systems are still special, the mathematical interaction of integrable systems theory with virtually all branches of mathematics (and with many currently developing areas of theoretical physics) illustrates the importance of this area. This book concentrates on developing the theme of the tau function. KdV and KP equations are treated extensively, with material on NLS and AKNS systems, and in following the tau function theme one is led to conformal field theory, strings, and other topics in physics. The extensive list of references contains about 1000 entries.
